  6. You are heading to a place where any cast can land you the kind of fish Dreams are made of. There is very little to be gained by using 8 - 10 pound line. The biggest fish of the trip could come on the first cast. If you're using tackle that's insufficient for the job that fish could be lost - Forever. You'll most likely consider changing your line out then - but we all know how that goes - we often don't get another shot at that type of fish. Don't turn this into one of those " Had Good Trip but I Lost a Monster on the first day" stories. Ensure All your tackle including your line, is very capable if landing the Biggest Bass you Hope to catch. You never know - you just might - Be Ready. Good Luck. A-Jay

  10. This is interesting stuff ~ To many, KVD is often thought of as one of the best of all time - and no doubt he's been pretty dominant. But a review of this list reminds one rather quickly that The Zen Master, Rick Clunn - is no slouch. For me fall signifies a return to using more horizontal baits; and it's pretty much the same ones I used in the spring. But because the water temps are going from warmer to cooler, my choice for which one is reversed. The baits I ended the spring / early summer using, I start the fall with. The lures I fished as the water warms, I use again as it cools. And the baits that I started the early spring with, are usually fished as the season comes to a close. There are always exceptions and a ton of crossover but by and large this works for me. Additionally, I will say that I do fish swim baits much more in the fall than the spring and the A-Rig is destine to make an appearance some time soon as well. A-Jay

  15. Got out early on Tuesday, the day after Labor day. The morning started warm, calm and very foggy. Conditions looked good and expectations were high. But is often the case, the first two and a half hours produced only a few dink lmb. Most of the shallow weeds have started dying off already here. Although most of them are still standing, they are brown & dead; both the bait and the bass seem to have abandon them. Took me a while to first find a few bass and then to get them to bite. Early fall can be like that. One minute I might be getting bites with a deep drop shot and the next, the fish are chewing up a shallow crank bait. By 10 o’clock, and struggling to put anything together, the wind picked up. I needed to do something different so I went to an old trick. Since my Hummingbird unit doesn’t differentiate which weeds have dies off yet, I threw a deep crank. Not so much to get fish but looking for the greenest weed I could find. It’s a bit of a pain staking process but it’s accurate. As fall progresses and the weeds die off continues, they will fall and lay flatter on the bottom but until then, this works. The better spots were the green weed patches at the top & bottom of breaks. Additionally, I found a longer drop with a slower/ more gradual slope that had two or three patches of green weed half way between the top & bottom of the drop. All my better fish came from these spots and you can bet there were way points dropped. Looking for a few of the bigger smb in this lake, I worked a Berkley Powerbait Flat Back Shad swimbait around, over and sometimes into the green weeds. Combining the swim baits with one of the new Freedom Tackle Hydra Hybrid & Stealth Hybrid heads worked well. Depending on the cover, an Owner Wide Gap Plus EWG Hook or an Eagle Claw Lazor Trokar Flipping hook worked very well. I’m liking that head more and more each time I use it. btw ~ Pike like them quite a bit too so after getting bit off twice, I had to go to wire. Pics & Videos . . . 20. Lipless Crank Bait. A-Jay
  21. To keep the bait from spinning there are a few options; You can use a weighted swim bait hook as you mentioned, you can put the bait on a jig head or you can use an EWG hook and this new rig from Freedom Lures. I just started using it this season and it's pretty sweet. A-Jay http://www.freedomlures.com/Freedom_Tackle/Products/Entries/2014/4/15_Hydra.html
