She Did It Again ~
Yesterday my wife & I took total advantage of one of those picturesque summer days in the north woods. From the portage down the two-track, to slipping the canoe onto the lake, the whole scene was magical; almost fake. As is often the case, except for the loons & eagles we had the place to ourselves. The light & variable winds, a rarity here, called for a subtle presentation and a weight less stick bait is about as subtle as you can get. Lynn fishes with medium spinning gear and on this special day, both her & her tackle were very busy. Presenting the baits close to isolated clumps of coontail in 5-10 ft of water proved to be most effective. A very slow, often dead stick offering, was about all they would eat. This is something I do not excel at (probably never will - too impatient) but the lady finds it second nature and she took me to school, again. With many jumps, drag strips and splashes in my face, between 10am – 2pm several very healthy bass came to the boat. It was one of those times where it wasn’t long before I realized she would be getting a bite on almost every cast. And so as designated net, hook remover and camera man, I might as well just sit back and watch the show; so I did. I was able to land a few bass and a couple of pike but the best fish were coming from the front of the boat. Once the bite slowed down, we had a late lunch on the water while enjoying the golden hues and long shadows of this special afternoon. These are the kind of trips that help keep us warm in January. What Are Your Favorite T-Rig Plastics And Hooks?
-A stopper or stopper knot - A small bead to keep the knot from slipping through the weight. - A 1/2 oz tungsten weight - a Boss Punch Hub - this is placed inside the skirt collar - The skirt of your choice - A parasite clip (optional, but does help prevent the plastic from sliding down the hook) - A 5/0 Owner wide gap plus EWG hook (#5139 - very stout, I love this hook) - Your favorite soft plastic - pictured is a Power Bait Beast A-Jay

New From Richmond Va
Hello and Welcome to BR ~ My advice is to read several of the articles in this link regarding the Senko. Then apply what you learn. By making a serious commitment to this bait / technique, you can't help but catch some bass. Good Luck A-Jay http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/12401-senko-faq- look-here-first/

What Was Your "breakthrough" Moment?
Once I committed to learn to fish a jig, several very positive things happened. I began fishing deeper (off the bank). I began learning the difference between structure and cover. This caused me to started looking at potential bass holding waters much differently. The success I had from having some productive Jig fishing outings provided me the confidence to try other methods & techniques; many of which are now staples of my arsenal. Additionally, The Bass Resource Forum has played a Major Role in many of my most memorable Outings. A-Jay

Fenwick Method
Cool Concept. Having recently purchased and used 4 travel rods, I would have been more than just a little interested in these rods as a possible choice had I known about them. The option of having a couple of different rod action choices from what is basically 1 rod / case seems very convenient. A-Jay

Public Meetings Coming On Michigan Bass Season Change In July
I'm going to try to let my voice be here both in person and through any & all other means possible. There may not be another chance like this for a while. Look how long it took for this most recent movement. As for which one is best - everyone will have their opinion here, I'm just hoping the top vote getter includes a year round state wide season. Also, I'm still trying to figure out how an extended season of catch & immediate release helps attract more tournaments ? They do not practice "immediate release" more like catch, hold in live well & then release . . . . A-Jay

Working The Drag With Lunkers.
A few thoughts ~ the Netbait Paca Swim Jig sports a fairly stout Mustad Ultra Point hook. So fishing it on spinning gear and 10lb mono could be problematic in the area of hook penetration, especially if the rod used is of a lighter action. As for Reel Drag benefits - the concept revolves around allowing your reel to give line instead of the line parting or the hook pulling out. It does seem it's another one of those "personal preference" deals - some like it tight, some like it less tight. Personally, I want (and Hope) that my drag works as it designed when called upon. Lighter line - like 10 lb test - will often require some drag usage on larger / more spirited bass. As an angler gains experience with his / her equipment & fighting larger bass, one can become more familiar with how a rod & reel will preform under stain rather than being surprised by it. This can be a real advantage when it comes to putting a few more of the larger fish in the net. Surely there will always still be fish lost. The ones that come right to the boat and then go nuts, the ones that jump 4 feet high and throw the bait right back at you, and the ones that for no reason at all just break you off never giving you a chance to even see them. Your drag may not play a role in those cases, but it's all fair in Love & Bass Fishing . . . A-Jay

Michigan Closed Bass Season
I'm also in the No Closed Season corner. C & R is fine - they can even have a Slot if they want to. I believe that most bass anglers practice C & R any way. As far as enforcement goes - I understand the dilemma. But if I could be on the water right after ice out - bass fishing - I certainly would be. A-Jay

Swing Jig/hard Head First Impressions
A Heavy action frog rod would be too stout for my liking. For me, that rig fishes like a spinner bait, a small swim bait or even a heavy swim jig - so I'll select my rod, reel & line accordingly. I feel that deal doesn't really require any "Specialize" tackle to present and / or fish the bait effectively. Let us know how it goes. A-Jay
