  7. I fish cranks baits both ways - Sometimes braid and leader with a glass rod and other times Mono line and a graphite stick. Both approaches have an equal level of desirable and undesirable qualities. For me, the most important factor determining if a treble hooks holds or not, is less about the rod/reel & line and more about the hook itself. Some treble hooks seem to work a whole lot better than others. A-Jay

  17. For me, hook choice is a matter of form & function: which hook fits the bait best and will at the same time ensure optimum hook penetration and holding power. That needs to happen without hindering the baits action / strike attracting ability. I prefer EWG hooks over round bend (and just about anything else I've tried) for most every application including flipping; a good majority of anglers prefer a straight shank hook for that. The hook you choose may vary based on personal preference and confidence. The wire size of the hook plays a role in the decision as well. Good Luck A-Jay

  20. Hello and Welcome to BR ~ Counting Down is a technique where when using a bait the sinks at rest, an angler will count the seconds as the bait descends. Once it reaches a desired depth, the angler retrieves the bait hoping to illicit a strike. The use of a fish fisher is obviously helpful here and knowing the fall or sink rate of your bait is important too. Suspended bass are often fairly hard to catch but in some circumstances this technique is very effective. Good Luck A-Jay
