It's Almost Blade Bait Time
Timing seems about right so, I'm bringing this one back. As one of The Best Cool to Cold water brown bass technique's I fish, this thread contains quite a bit of useful information from some experienced & successful Blade Bait Believers. This video by Scott Dobson is very good regarding the tackle & how-to's of fishing a blade bait. If you haven't fished a blade bait and you have the deeper clean bottom areas these baits excel in, I like to encourage you to pick up a few and give it a try. (they are not expensive). But please be careful - you might get your arm broke . . . . Below is a clip of a decent late season day I had a few years ago in the Old Town where a 1/2 oz Silver Buddy did most all of the heavy lifting. (and before I get it again, I have already been counseled by the masses regard the way I was holding these fish up to the camera. I don't do that any more.) Additionally, in a effort to 'update' my own offering here, since the OP I have had been fishing a rattle bait in many of the same places & in the same manner as the blade baits. The results have been Really Good. And while most any fast sinking rattle bait will get bites, the thinner & heavier bait styles seem more suited to this often deep(er) water presentation. Specifically the Duo Realis G-Fix Vibration Tungsten Lipless Crankbait has been my go-to. I talk about this bait here ~ A-Jay

Lund 1875 Pro-V Bass Boat Two Year Review (Video)
Knowledge is confidence ~ learn as much as you can about the boat, motor & trailer you want. The buying process can be a lot less nerve racking if you know what you want & most importantly WHY. Hope you can service it where you purchase it - seems to inspire a little more ownership from the dealer if & when you need service. Go do a meet & greet with the service department BEFORE you buy. Those are the folks you'll be dealing with after you buy it - not the sales person. Have Fun. A-Jay

How's the bite been recently for you?
Last 3 weeks or so have been tough sledding for big brown bass in this neck of the woods. A-Jay

Decent, cheap rubber boot
The whole reason I'd be wearing this style of boot/wader is when the water & or air temps are super cold. If it's decent enough to wear shorts - forget the hip boots and just jump in the water mate ! A-Jay

Advice for newbie on Ultrex and Humminbirds
Yes - the vessel needs to be traveling slow - pretty close to idle speed and your track spacing needs to be pretty small and close to over lapping so you don't have 'missed' spots on your map. The unit will 'fill in some if you miss small areas but it may not be exactly accurate. That's why it's so time consuming. I have mapped much of the water I fish regularly, even if it's already mapped - but I do it while I'm fishing most of the time. Although I did a ton of mapping during the new outboard break in process. A-Jay

Advice for newbie on Ultrex and Humminbirds
I do not have an Ultrex but do run a couple of Helix 10's. 1. Yes NO 2. Creating mapping although very helpful, to do it right & effectively, is extremely time consuming and really only helpful when actually fishing - you may not be able to map out a whole lake and use it for navigation - so cards are still useful & needed IMO. Good Luck A-Jay

Lund 1875 Pro-V Bass Boat Two Year Review (Video)
Hello and Welcome to Bass Resource ~ Thanks for the kind words & the support, I certainly appreciate it. The ProXS is running great and I really do like everything about it. My rig with the 200 hp 2-stroke Optimax was running 57- 58 mph @WOT with a 21" Tempest Plus prop. Using that same prop and a 6 inch manual jack plate set at the same height as the Optimax, the ProXS runs just a tick above that at 58-59 mph. The Pro-V Bass's IPS2 hull is not really a speed burner but it suits me just fine. Good Luck with your new rig purchase A-Jay

Decent, cheap rubber boot
Hip Waders Hip waders are intended for water no deeper than knee-level. These are designed in two separate pieces, one for each leg. Each side attaches to your belt with straps to prevent them from sliding down, similar to chaps. Hip waders have several advantages: The lightest option. Easiest to put on and take off. The most comfortable option in hot weather. Ideal for smaller streams and shallows. Easy to pack and great to have on hand for activities like launching and trailering boats, digging for clams, or hunting in boggy terrain. A-Jay

Knot for heavy flurocarbon
Pretty sure this one's called the Loadmaster Knot. Takes a while to learn & half an hour to tie but once you get it - it's the best ! If you can't tie a knot - tie a lot. A-Jay

Decent, cheap rubber boot
I do quite a bit of solo, no dock, boat launching; especially early season. Boots are a part of that. I'd encourage you to consider hip boots. Really don't take up any more space, aren't any more trouble to get on & off than a standard 12 inch boot, but offer quite a bit more in the way of 'depth & dryness'. Wet foot/leg is a bummer on a cold early morning. A-Jay https://www.amazon.com/Green-Fishing-Wader-Cleated-Outsole/dp/B075Z2MLDN?ref_=ast_bbp_dp

Missing fish
Some great advice already offered here. I fish walking baits quite a bit - might even be somewhat addicted to it. My hook set with a walking bait is simply a quick & firm upward snap of the wrist. Here's what it looks like looks like . . . A-Jay
