  2. Went Old School today ~ A-Jay
  3. Put together some of my favorite fish catches from this past season. Open water came late in 2018 but the fish catching started right away and went straight through to the last trip. Really looking forward to next season. And I hope it starts a lot sooner. A-Jay
  4. In my case Yes - most definitely. And it's 95% Smallies for me too. Took me a while to first, figure out why I wasn't getting hooks into these 'savage strikes' and Second, why my 'Blades kept coming off'. Started 'upgrading the split rinds & swivels (Sort of a PIA) but I didn't loose anywhere near as many blades afterward. Deal for me is once I feel the strike, just keep reeling until the rod rods. If they had hit the blade only, often times they come back and eat the hook & trailer. Happens less with a swimbait trailer (we can all have an opinion as to why) and a good slathering on Megastrike adds incentive. A-Jay
  5. Permission ~ What Permission ? You know darn well I stole it from another Basshead somewhere along the line. Do It ! btw - a large tip Black sharpie turns most any color 'trailer' into a 'Night Bait' So I purchase / use whatever's on sale . . . A-Jay
  6. I use Bearing Buddies on both my trailers (Old Town Canoe & Lund). They work as advertised but as mentioned, are not a replacement for maintenance. In an effort to assist them in doing their job, once I reach the launching site, (especially after an extended time on the road at highway speed) my routine includes ALWAYS taking sufficient time prepping the boat to allow the whole hub/bearing assembly to cool. Although mine have never been super hot (nor should they be) cool to the touch is good. When wheel hubs, heated by motion, hit the cool water at the boat ramp, everything inside contracts, creating a vacuum that can pull water into the hubs, contaminating the grease. This water will corrode bearings over time, which increases friction, creating more heat and eventually leading to failure, and an unplanned stop at the side of the road. Bearing protectors, like the Bearing Buddy, combat this by maintaining a small reserve of grease under pressure on the outer face of the hub. The idea is that the grease under pressure will push into the hub when it contracts, preventing water from ever intruding. If you keep the Bearing Buddy filled just enough to maintain pressure, one can extend the service interval for your grease-filled hubs somewhat. But they still need to be periodically checked, filled, maintained & changed. YMMV A-Jay
  7. Yup ~ ! And the teeth marks on the blade mean it's a good plan to beef up the split rings & the swivel. A-Jay
  8. Some techniques ~ Yes. I like a faster reel Some techniques ~ Not so much . . . . A-Jay
  9. Clearly ~ And I am definitely loyal to gear that performs on the water with Quality, Dependability & Durability. I've fished tackle that did not offer that for me (none that I mentioned) and so I moved on. A-Jay
  10. May see a wide array of responses to this one; including plenty from the fan boys. I have been using Shimano spinning & round casting reels and Quantum for my low profile casting reel needs for the last several years. A-Jay
  11. Hello and Welcome to Bass Resource ~ A-Jay
  12. I hear ya ~ The standard back squat is by far my favorite exercise. Did them faithfully for over 30 years. Unfortunately a couple of 'serious' back injuries & one ugly knee injury have me being very cautions & guarded regarding my training as I approach 60 years old (next August if I'm lucky). Can't afford to injury anything else at this point, so while I'd agree that the squat is the King for leg strength & development, I have to work around that and do what I can safely. I lift & exercise to live; not the other way around. Gotta do legs though, because you can't build a house without a foundation. A-Jay
  13. After looking at the very first pic there for only a second or two - My Left eye started to twitch - uncontrollably A-Jay
  14. 22 Dec 2018 ~ Doing Leg Work Always start the work out week with Legs This is a clip of the last set of each exercise. I’m a little smoother (insert carrying more body fat) than I want to be, but I know how to fix that. Staying strong (relative term) and getting lean is the fun part. A-Jay
