  1. Pretty sure that's a Sears & Roebuck Spin Casting Special - about 4 pounds of Pure Fish Fighting Fiberglass right there . . A-Jay
  2. I could tell - and I can imagine how you felt too - I've been there. Sometimes cutting him loose is all we can do. A-Jay
  3. OR - Here's another perspective of your experience. I help whoever I can, with in reason, especially those who show a genuine interest.. Here is an example. About 5 years ago is when I came upon the use of the senko. I had a few fishing holes and brought a buddy with me. One particular summer day we were using the same things, hula grubs, crank baits, frogs, t-rigged worms... and not catching anything. Well I had read about the wacky rigged senko and decided to try it in a last minute effort. I started catching every cast. I caught about 10+ bass before I started to feel guilty about having fun. So I helped him out. Gave him the hook and the senkos. Long story short, he caught a bass that was 23" and easily 6-7 lbs but probably 7+ (very impressive bass for ohio). He was so excited he took off running with the bass back to the truck to take pictures. You should have seen the smile on his face & heard the genuine excitement in his voice - it was awesome. Once we got home, he posted pictures on Facebook and showed everyone at the bar about how he caught this huge bass and how he did it. Unfortunately the truck was a ways back and the bass didn't make it. Later we talked about C & R and what we could have gone better to get some pictures but still insure that the big bass lived to grow & fight another day . It was cool knowing that I had played a small part in helping my buddy catch this big bass which seemed to really make his day. A-Jay

Very Nice ~ I had an older gentleman driver of that particular vehicle ride my hip a ways while I was in my GTO - We may have fractured the posted regulation regarding speed over ground. A-Jay

  10. Hello and Welcome to Bass Resource ~ A-Jay
  11. Hello and Welcome to Bass Resource ~ As a fairly new bass angler, who fishes on weekend the past few months, you've accumulate quite a bit of tackle (rods & reels). The thirty or so fishing trips you may have been on might not have been enough time with this gear in hand to establish what type of equipment you prefer for a particular type of presentation. My preferences may not be yours. So before making any attempt at "matching your tackle" if I may, I'd like to suggest you do the following. Put the reels on the rods, match them with the a brand, size & type of line you're comfortable with and go fishing some more. There is a decent list of variables that you'll soon discover that are reasonably important to a rigs effectiveness that go well beyond what can be effectively recommended by another angler here. They include but are certainly not limited to Where you fish, the type of structure / cover there, if you are on the bank, are you in a kayak or a bass boat, the type & size line you like, and believe it or not even your height or sleeve length. A quick look at your list indicates that you have what you need to get started. Good Luck & have fun. A-Jay

  13. Hello and Welcome to Bass Resource ~ I use solder wrapped around the shank of the hook. Extra weight plus blade size reduction helps for casting distance, keeps bait deeper and will help keep a high speed burned bait tracking true & in the water. A-Jay
  14. I was in the Exact Same Situation. However at the start of this past season I Finally Broke down and fished some. I had no choice, the peer Pressure was Brutal ~ ! Anyway, I went with Seaguar InvisX 12, 15, 17 & 20. Used it to present crank baits, lipless bait, jerk baits, & Spinnerbaits as well as jigs & bottom contact baits. I will admit to being extra judicious with all knots, re-tied often and used line conditioner faithfully. I end for ended my spools once and changed it out once in the middle of the summer. It does have some memory & some stretch, but it's not bad. Otherwise IMO, it lives up to it's advertised properties. Verdict after the whole season of use; I like it and will continue to use it. I didn't break off once nor did I have any mysterious or unexplained line failures. My biggest challenge was remembering that long bomb casts with floro will lack the same hook up stoutness that braid offers. Once I learned to manage that I was good to go. The convenience of not having to use leaders like I was doing with braid is nice. There may be "Better" ones out there, but I'm going to stick with this one for now - baby steps. I still use mono and still use braid (all my spinning). If you're looking for a reason to give it another go - I may have just given you at least one. A-Jay
  15. Got it. And like I referred to previously here, handling properties of each line are a little different ( and can vary wildly between brands for the same line as well). As you discovered, you prefer those of braid. To each his own. I like & dislike them all at one point or another. A-Jay
  16. And a Patch Kit. A-Jay
  17. I don't exactly understand your response but 15 pound mono is about as easy as it gets when learning to cast revolving spool gear, and easy is a relative term. Also the beginner can sometimes have a few backlashes. If & when the over runs are bad to the point where it can not be "picked out" - cutting it out may be the final option. Cutting out mono that's 9 bucks for 1,00 yards may be more desirable than cutting out other types of line that can & do cost quite a bit more. A-Jay
  18. I use all three at one point or another. They each have both beneficial & detrimental properties. To be successful, one needs to select the line that best suits each fishing situation. And for a beginner - mono is the way to go. Especially for someone learning how to use bait casting tackle. A-Jay
  19. I vote for the Pro - I'm rocking the 4 bank - Love It. A-Jay
  20. Thank you Tom - I appreciate the support. A-Jay
  21. I knew it - solid priorities ether way. A-Jay
  22. Nice Paul ~ I really like the looks of that one. A-Jay
  23. I'm a little surprised. I would have thought you'd be looking for the angler's list of Goals. A-Jay
