TDIL: Nets are important.
Good you made it work - A while back I had a non-replaceable net that needed a new bag. I cut the old one off & used a stout nylon twine to "weave' the new bag onto the frame. One long length went through the top net loops and around the net frame. Worked out OK. A-Jay

Close Encounters of the 4-Legged Kind
Glad everyone (humans & pets) are OK ~ We have them here as well. Since you're new to the neighborhood, they may have been just coming in to check you out. And if that property was vacant for a while, the Canine crew may have been passing by there regularly. You're right though, they usually avoid humans at all costs. They do come in and take small pets from time to time. Happens here to those who do not take the fact they live in the woods seriously, which makes one part of the food chain. Which part is up to us. Stay Safe A-Jay

What are your favorite paddletail swimbaits?
I have a few and they all seem to have a time & place where one may be preferred over another. In no particular order, Lake Fork Boot Tail Live Magic Shad,Berkley Havoc Bobby Lane's Grass Pig Swimbait, Reaction Innovations Skinny Dipper, Zoom Swimmin Super Fluke, and lately & because they are new to me this season so I've been throwing them quite a bit, is the SK Rage Swimmer both the 3.75 & the 4.75 inch. The Importance of a Timeout
Congrats on the win ~ As for slowing down, that advice may prove very effective for every outing, competitive or not. btw - It may be hard to expect top level performance from yourself with NO GAS in your own tank - even KVD maintains proper nutrition & especially Hydration during the tournament. Helps with endurance & especially decision making. Congrats again A-Jay

TDIL: Nets are important.
I hear ya BB ~ And that's a valid point. I have 2 thoughts . . . . 1) It's a tool and when used incorrectly it's hard to expect useful results. 2) Regardless of the results - hooks in the net are way better than hooks in the fingers / hand, especially with treble hooks. Some consider getting hooked as a hazard of the job, I see it as almost completely preventable. btw - not trying to Hijack the thread but it's a somewhat related to the OP's topic. A-Jay

Backlash, line too thin?
Does Relatively new mean you don't know how to set up the reel properly or what the proper casting technique for a revolving spool is ? If so, start with some good information because knowing how to Set up your reel properly and why to adjust it in a certain way can go a long way to helping you learn to cast effectively. There are several instructional BR videos on how to set up your reel & learn to cast it right here ~ http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-videos/rods-reels-videos btw ~ ditch the braid & leader and fill your reel with some decent 15 lb mono - Trilene Big game is reasonably priced.
