20 Sept 2016 No Fish & Not Happy ~
A couple of years ago I made a rather long & what ended up to be rather fishless thread here on BR that revolved around my venture into "Stitching" a big worm. I kept getting skunked and rather than making 'I got skunked again" posts I started using the term Jambalaya - It was there fore most appropriate yesterday. A-Jay

Week full of Rain
The bite I was on last week was completely shut down with the rain we had here - 3 1/2 inches worth. Hope you don't end up with any part of that action . . . A-Jay

20 Sept 2016 No Fish & Not Happy ~
For the first time in a while, I spent several, I say again Several hours on the water without anything in the way of fish catching. Oh I did a boat load of fishing, just not catching. I guess I was getting a little spoiled there as I've had a pretty decent run lately. Perhaps the 3 1/2 INCHES of Big Fat Rain we had the night before had something to do with it. I should have known better. Anyway, about half way through the day I took my frustrations out on the Garmin Virb. FYI ~ Zeroed for the day ~ Jambalaya. A-Jay

Not a convert but...
Been using the top tier Quantum gear for a while - not exclusively but still quite a bit. Recently added a couple casting reels with a bit more line capacity for the up coming A-Rig season. Went with the QUANTUM EXO PT EX200SPT ~ Auction site purchase. Very pleased I am. A-Jay

Do others see inconsistent action with Some Strike King Crankbaits
While there will always be a few "Lemons" mixed into the mass produced baits of most any manufacture, I have Not found anything more than that within the rather extensive arsenal of SK RES, Squarebills, Mid & Deep Diving Crankbaits, Top Waters & Jerk baits that fill the boxes I select for every trip out. Unless a bait is not "running true", the fact that it gets hung up or doesn't produce for me - is Never viewed as the baits fault. A-Jay

14 Sept ~ 5lb Smallie
Thanks ~ The vast majority of my spinnerbait fishing for smallies involves burning the bait within at foot or two of or just under the surface. Rarely do I go very sub-surface for them like I'll often do for LMB. My retrieve is a very occasional stop & go but mostly just high speed. Water depth depends on cover & structure. In this case I was covering a very large flat (400 yards long & wide) that has isolated patched of weeds on an other wise sand bottom. Some weed spots are 5 ft x 5 ft & a few feet apart and others are 50 ft x 50 ft and several yards apart. Bass & bait seems to move all over the area when they are active so it pays to cover water. Water depth ranges from 5 - 10 feet and the visibility is very good, can see the bottom easily the whole time. Long casts are key. By getting up wind, casting down wind & letting the boat blow along I can systematically, quietly cover the whole flat. When I reach an area I want to spend some time in or I get bit, I drop the Talons and go to work. Here's what it looks like. . . . . A-Jay

Ranger RT188 vs Ranger Z175
My description and or opinion regarding the stability of this boat as it compares to a glass boat really doesn't matter here. Of course I'm bias. I made this purchase for several reasons and safe rough water stability was one of them. You'll need to get out on the water a Lund Pro V Bass Boat and see for yourself just how it compares to your Stratos VLO - otherwise you're just regurgitating my or someone else's opinion. Incidentally, I've not owned glass, I don't care for them. A-Jay

Recreational boats
One can only speculate as to why boaters operate on plane through skinny water. Here's some speculation: Inexperience - "I'm off the bank - so it must be deep" Rarely leads to anything good as eventually they're aground or worse. "I know this lake like the back of my hand - there's plenty of water" This is all well & good but something that may be missed here is that shallow flats are where large floating debris (LOGS) go to die. So although there was plenty of water there for years, after that last big rain / high water event, there's now a big dead head just under the surface. Really hard to see and avoid especially when you're not expecting it. So choosing to go shallow, when there's a deeper water option available, may save time, and look real cool, but can be a decision that leads to a very bad day. Why make it ? A-Jay

There'll be days like this...
Glad to hear you remained dry and that your human self (wrist) is not injured. Broken & lost tackle is a bummer, and (I know you know this) except in rare cases, usually replaceable. However, losing a big Pike, well now that may just send me into a "trifecta" loaded tirade. Here's to Better days ahead. A-Jay

Crawfish coloring
PK has a modest minimum order for custom color runs which makes it nice. When I come up with a color or pattern I want to try, I don't have to purchase 100 or 200 baits to see if I like it or if it works. In my world, I want Soft, Soft plastics - these are definitely that - one reason I keep going back. A-Jay

Crawfish coloring
Yes I have ~ and will most likely continue to do so. (all soft plastics, have not used any of his hard baits) Paul made up several custom "A-Jay Patterns" for me in Craws, Chatterbait trailers, swimbaits & drop shot baits. Custom work almost always comes at a premium cost. The choice to go that route is a personal one. These are not overly durable products. If that is a priority, his baits may not be your cup of tea. His baits are all are super soft, have GREAT Action and take care of my biggest priority ~ They catch fish. A-Jay
