It's Not Fall yet.
I really like the fall bass fishing season. When it's on, it's such a great time to get on both numbers and size; some Real Gorillas too. But in my excitement I often fish presentations that the bass aren't quite ready to get on. So, I'll struggle a while until the deal I'm going with is right. Sort of dumb when I think about it. This excerpt from a recent article by B.A.S.S. Elite Tournament Pro Greg Hackney, has me paying a little bit more attention to what's going on. It was dated 01 Sept 2016. "I’ve been reading about fall, and how it’s just around the corner. That might be true but here’s the deal: It’s not fall yet. It’s the end of summer. That’s not the same thing, not even close. These are what I call the blah days. It’s the end of summer. That means the air is starting to cool, but not by much. The days are getting shorter, but only by a few minutes. The water temperatures are high, but levels are mostly low. The fish are scattered and aren’t doing much of anything. This is typically the time of the year when you’ll catch less weight than at any other time. The late summer approach that I’ve developed over the years is to fish with smaller lures and to target isolated pieces of cover. I try to catch numbers rather than big fish. My thinking is that if I can get enough of them into the boat some of them will be respectable. Typically I throw baits like a 1/8-ounce buzzbait, a tiny spinnerbait or a Strike King 1.0 crankbait. Any of them will come pretty close to what they’re eating. Despite what you hear and read, most of the shad and other baitfish at this time of the year are small. If they were born in April or May, they just don’t get that big by August and September. I do flip and pitch some. My first, and usually my only, choice is a 4-inch tube weighted with a 3/16 or 1/4-ounce sinker. I want something that’s about the right size and not too intrusive. That’s the thing about late summer. Most of the bass are not aggressive right now. They’ll eat something if it looks good, but they won’t go to any great lengths to get it. You have to go slow and easy to catch them. In another month or so when things really start to change that won’t be the case." Makes perfect sense to me, especially considering what has worked and not worked for me the past couple of weeks. A-Jay

Lund 2075 Pro-V Bass
Yes the 2075 has been advertised as 95 inches and the 1875 is 96. Not a big deal really as the added length of the 2075 will most certainly make a MAJOR difference in ride especially in big water. A-Jay

Lund 2075 Pro-V Bass
Initial advertised prices are routinely a little low. As a prospective boat buyer, all the safety, handling, storage & fish ability characteristics I wanted & needed were satisfied with the 1875. And now after 3 months of ownership, I could not be happier. And it's interesting to note that I've never felt my decision to be amusing or laughable, absurd or eccentric, or inept or even foolish. Calling the Lund IPS2 Hull Tin is like Calling a Ranger Hull Plastic. There is really no way to effectively describe what this newest Lund is all about, and I know & understand that. Like many things in life, it has to be experienced. Because in the bass boat arena, there just isn't anything else out there to compare it to (except slonezp's Predator ). btw - the beam on the 2075 is a full inch Narrower that the 1875. A-Jay

Are Power Poles/Talons really all that necessary?
I have twin 12 ft Talons. Mounted to the transom. I LOVE THEM. Total Game Changer. Pro's ~ Great for solo launch and especially recovery. Boat sits 12 inch off the dock and I can slip the trailer right under - too easy. ~ Obviously fantastic for holding position and fishing. (if you're rarely fishing 12 ft of water or less then this will not help you. ~ The available Tilt Brackets allow for the Talons to be laid flat onto the rear deck for any low approach & for storage in low overhead places. ~ Talon is an all electric unit that requires nothing additional (no hydraulics) Con's ~ The twin towers will slow the boat down 1 or 2 mph running down the lake - not noticeable really but it's just physics. The twin towers will also reduce highway gas mileage to some degree. Again not a travel or safety concern at all, just physics. On a side note - I fish alone much of the time so the back deck only gets occasional use. The Minn Kota product deploys straight down where as the Power Poles deploy out away from the stern of your boat in a sort of crab like fashion. The Talon towers remain in position whether they are deployed or not. The power poles deploy down into the water when being used and might not impede casting. For me, my situation & my style of fishing, The Pro's FAR OUT Weigh the Cons. I'd never own another Bass Boat without them. Your results may vary. A-Jay

Bow Mount trolling motor whips boat around
Hello and Welcome to Bass Resource ~ As a general rule, the stern of your boat will almost always follow the bow, where ever it goes . . . . . (kidding) If you are fishing solo and positioned at the bow while operating the trolling motor, your problem may be unbalance weight distribution. If there is no out board motor on the stern or something else to counter balance your weight up forward, the stern is probably half out of the water which would cause the situation you've described. Try putting some weight in the stern or redistribute your gear. Bet it helps. A-Jay

Gin Clear Water Heavier Gear?
Hello and Welcome to Bass Resource ~ I'm up in northern Michigan and the water here is very clear as well. Last week I was fortunate enough to hook & land a pretty decent LMB myself. It was also on spinning gear, I was using 10 lb braid & and 8 lb mono leader. Works pretty good but not around heavy cover or snaggle tooth docks. I'd suggest bumping your gear up around that stuff. And like J Francho mentioned, it really does pay off to have some kind of plan thought out ahead of time. When I'm fishing with lighter gear and I hook a stout bass, my first objective is to get the bass away from any cover and into open water. Do that and at least half the battle is over. Then it's just a matter of playing the fish around the boat. You have to do what you can to keep them out of the motor, trolling motor & from going under the boat and breaking you off. There's no magic here, just takes practice. Doesn't always go exactly according to plan but no plan often results in No Fish. Good Luck and I hope they keep biting for you - A-Jay
