Got out on a much bigger lake today. Trying to increase my odds for multiple Bigger bass. Wind was southerly & warm but still kicked up a little wave action. Hadn’t been on this one in a couple of weeks and was surprised (but happy) to see the water temps still in the low 60’s. Accordingly, I stayed with the horizontal presentation program ~ Spinnerbaits, Squarebill & Medium diving Cranks, Lippless baits & a small swimbait. They all caught smallies of various sizes in the 2-4 lb class. I had to move around a bit to find concentrations of fish and today it ended up being an all out Flats bite. Had to be near deep water with some green weed on them. Here's an example of todays catch. A-Jay- Bass fisherman from Northern Illinois!
Hello Brian and Welcome to Bass Resource ~ A-Jay- Greetings from Austin, TX! (Hill Country)
Hello Chris and Welcome to Bass Resource ~ A-Jay- The Final Push ~
I certainly am Shimmy. My personal Quest for a Home State Six Pound Plus Smallie continues. Sadly, I think I actually had her on & up to the boat 2nd week of September, only to have her come unpinned boatside & break my heart. Did offer optimism that they are there and showed me where she at least visited to eat occasionally. As for my favorite Quiver - (good word btw) It changes as the water temps continue to drop. A Tube, A Blade Bait & maybe even a U-Rig. Honorable mention may go to a spybait and a small swimbait. The next 3 or 4 weeks are going to see me fishing hard but regardless of the results - enjoying every minute of it. A-Jay- Hello from Southern Indiana
Hello and Welcome to Bass Resource ~ Congrats on your Retirement. A-Jay- PB 5.95
- Finally cooling off
Nice Bass ~ Congrats A-Jay- Does this happen to you with a new presentation?
When adding a new bait, technique & / or presentation to our bass fishing arsenal, I believe it helps to have reasonable expectations. Finding success first time out or even first few trips out, might be overly optimistic. As been mentioned before, it does help one's confidence out when using a new deal, if you have a pretty decent idea that the fish are around and even better if they are known to currently be in a positive mood. So whatever it takes to accomplish that in advance of tossing the new stuff, is not a terrible approach in my mind. Finally, one of the greatest aspects of our sport is that is something we can hopefully do for a life time. And as the months, years & eventually decades past, the ability to add tools to the bass fishing tool box aids in keeping it fresh & exciting. And although I love to get bit, with just about anything (except a Senko on a Carolina rig ) the journey to get there and the anticipation of waiting is at least half the fun of wading into new water with a new bait. Good Luck A-Jay- Hello from Ohio!
Hello and Welcome to Bass Resource ~ Thank you for taking a moment to introduce yourself. I am certain that you will find as much solid bass fishing information as you can successfully absorb here. Enjoy A-Jay- The Final Push ~
Nope ~ As some of my more recent reports have shown, there's been a few decent days for me so far this fall. So I don't have anything to really complain about or expect sympathy for. I'm simply hoping that the next few weeks include a few more warm southern wind fishing days and less Cranking from a Northerly direction wind fishing days. For both of us my friend. OK - Thanks And here's my answers to your questions; Do you stick to certain brands or do they not matter? I stick to Quality Brands but even then I often upgrade the hardware. What Colors do you tend to throw more of when the water temp drops in the fall? The cooler the water the Simpler my lure color patterns become. Eventually ending up with SIlver, Gold or White baits. Do you still throw top waters in the morning like you would in the summer? The very early morning / Day break Fall bite for me all but disappears once the water temps dip below 55 degrees and as the water continues to cool the bite is best during the warmest parts of the day. You're Very Welcome. And if you don't mind me asking, here are few questions for you : Which establishment of Higher Education are you currently attending ? What's your Major & Minor (if there is any) courses of study ? Do you prefer Morning or Afternoon Classes or does it not matter ? Would you ever consider taking classes on line ? Hello and Welcome to Bass Resource ~ A-Jay- How do I avoid pike?
- The Final Push ~
So here it is, the first week of October. For those of us that are eventually heading to hard water, this last two months or so of open water seems to really fly by. These next few weeks can be so Good both for numbers and size, which seems to add a serious layer of intensity to the whole deal. Accordingly, I’m trying to be on the water every chance I get for as long as I can stay. And as the Autumn season goes in to full swing, along with the brilliant colors and the falling air & water temps, there’s almost always some very stiff wind. Here it’s usually coming from somewhere near the North Pole, at least that’s what it feels like. A little is OK and for the most part even desirable. Beyond that, There’s sadness & disappointment in A-Jay World. When I’m not on the water, especially this time of year, I’m checking & re-checking the local weather forecast ~ several times a day. This meteorological report seems to drive my very existence as I hope for at the very least, reasonable conditions to get out on the water those last few times. This weekend has been a total wash out with excessive wind & big fat rain. The upcoming week does look much better with seasonal overnight & day time air temps and most importantly, light to only perhaps moderate winds. Of course that can all change in an instant, but I’m going to remain optimistic. Finally, if your home waters do not freeze and you’re able to fish open water year round, you may not be able to totally comprehend or relate to the text above. I’m OK with that. And in a few weeks when the world freezes over up here, I'll still enjoy reading about and seeing pictures / videos of the great bass you'll no doubt catch. But if you would, just please don't remind me about it. Not here & Not now. A-Jay- Hello from outside STL

Hello Kendal and Welcome to Bass Resource ~ A-Jay- The Umbrella Rig Adventure ~
Yes ~ Long & Heavy . . . .(kidding) I didn't measure / weight her. Thumb & Eyeball Scale read as "Good One" A-Jay- The Umbrella Rig Adventure ~
Me too - that's why I'm making a concerted effort to give the rig a fair chance - still have some work to do. And no blades for me - I'm starting out with & sticking to the basic rig. A-Jay- It is over!!!
Nice Spread ~ Congrats to you both. A-Jay- The Umbrella Rig Adventure ~
Very Cool ~ You're Welcome my friend. Those results pale my own u-rig results so far - but I'm due. On the other hand, I WORE TEM OUT today with a lipless bait & a squarebill. Water temps at 59 and I could not get a bite on the rig. But the hard baits were getting CHOKED. Good times. I'll be posting some thing about the day in the reports thread later . Congrats again. A-Jay- The Beer Is Brewing, The Trash Is Flying, and The Race For The Pennant Is On!
Agreed. Playing at Fenway is a Good Time but Rested Players Rake the ball where Tired & Hurt players often to not. A-Jay- What's the best digital fish scale gripper?
