Glass Vs Graphite
Hello and Welcome to Bass Resource ~ As for cranking rod preference - it's a personal preference deal; like flavors of ice cream. Some like Vanilla, some like Chocolate and some like Rocky Road. I fish Glass, Graphite & even Composite rods for cranking. I find that each has characteristics that that are a bit different from the others. I could tell you what I like & why but that may not be what you prefer. That might only be realized by fishing them and finding out for yourself. Finally, I do not find that a glass rod reduces casting distance at all. A-Jay

Squarebills: Rattles Or Not
As much as we would like to believe that our lures are somehow closely similar to some actual bait that the bass eats, down deep I think we all know the reality is they are not. So does it really matter if the freaky looking and completely unnatural "thing", with the wildly mechanical side to side swimming action that just fell from the sky into the middle of the lake, piece of plastic makes a rattling sound as well or not ? We'll never really know - but what does matter is if that fatty which is driven completely by instinct but has a brain the size of a tick-tack, would try to eat it any way A-Jay

Is This How You Break A Rod?
Had plenty of tackle - this is where being a spaz & always bringing too much stuff actually paid off. But happening while cranking with 17 pound mono ? I might be able to accept it a bit more if I was Dropping the hammer with 50 lb braid. Either Way, ST Croix took very good care of me (LTB rod upgrades) and I'm a happy camper. Still haven't decided which travel rod to replace them with yet though - I'm a little gun shy. A-Jay

Dropshot Hookset
Reel & lift here as well. With usually 6 - 8 lb leader & 10 lb braid, I reel in any slack and continue reeling as line comes tight and as I can start feeling the weight of the fish, I'll lift up until the drag starts to slip a bit. Continuing to reel the whole time. Big smallies seem to have a propensity for swimming right at the boat at Mach speed and then launching themselves skyward. - sometimes it's hard to keep up. I will admit to fishing with a fairly light drag setting when fishing a drop shot - which has been a ton lately. A-Jay

Is This How You Break A Rod?
Anything's possible Mike. Three failed the same way in two days. All failed right at or above a ferrule (travel rods) Another failed the year before. Three were mine, one was Jeff's (00 mod). I'm leaning towards the design. A-Jay

Slim4Life
This is The Only Way To Live. I bought into this as a young man and made it my life style. I've never had to endure wild fluctuations in my weight. I can say from first hand experience the concept in the highlighted text above is the main reason why. Additionally, I do not believe that the human body needs to prepare to eat & live healthy. (doing a Prep ?) That would be like leaving a room full of smoke and then going to another room with slightly less smoke before getting out into fresh air. Just get on with it man. You'll be fine. Just remember moderation in all things including moderation. It always makes me smile when people mention that a certain food is either good or bad for you. In my experience we all start out perfect. So what you eat & do determines how you are. The wrong choices change you. The right ones do not. I'd wish you good luck but hope is not a strategy. You have all the tools you need - it's called choice. A-Jay

Teaching Update...
Perhaps the school committee could see their way clear to allow the school cafeteria to introduce a small but effective dose of midazolam into the water supply ~ That would settle every one down a bit. A-Jay
