cleaning my catch-help please!
The way i fillet any fish is to cut right behind the gills all the way to the back bone. Then I will take my fillet knife and turn it towards the back fin and continue to cut along the bone all the way to the tail. Just before you cut off the fillet lift up on what yu have cut and lay it down so the meat is facing up then take you fillet knif and go along the skin of the fish until the fillet comes off (only meat) Then repeat that on the other side.

Summer Pond Fishing
First off... WELCOME HOME!!!! Next my advice for you is to throw something different then your senko. I would throw a C-rigged large...10-12" worm something deep and slow. Another thing I would do is to cut some of the trees (if you are allowed) so it will make your casting ability a lot easier. Do get to discouraged. I would also grab a canoe or some type of boat to get around the pond.

morning fishing
It all depends on where I am fishing... I love the early morning bite. My usual time to wake up is 4am whether I am working or not so I make to where I am fishing by sun-up.

i feel bad
I wouldn't worry about it. There are many people on here that get mad over someone keeping a fish and eating it. But you know what a fish is a fish and if it dies eat it or give it to someone who will. Eating a fish every now and then won't kill the population but I don't suggest you keeping a fish all the time. Once you caught it it's not like you can turn back time and not hook it where you did. Things like this happen all the time. I do it myself and I know everyone else does. If they don't admit to it they are either scared of what some people say or are not fishing very much. I don't mean to insult anyone but it how I feel.

Potomac River
The ramp fee is not $20.00 at Hope Springs.. It is $15.00 I know that is still a lot of money!!! But fishing at hope springs has been better then it is this time of year. The grass is pretty much everywhere right now and the grass mats and lily pad are on fire!!! I have many secrets out on the Potomac that I can give you. All of my spots have performed great for me. I will PM you with some spots. -Nitroman

Another night down at the secret pond.
Missing fish is part of fishing... That is why it is called fishing and not catching!!! My suggestion to you is to hook the fluke weedless like you have been. Once you have the hook into the fluke bring it through the plastic just a little bit. Once you have the tip of the hook pointing out then take the fluke and cover the tip of the hook so that the fluke is weedless and even a small amount of pressure will help your hookset become a lot better. Another suggestion for you is when you feel a bite reel up the slack until the line is completely tight and then yank back like you are trying to rip the hook through the fish's mouth. A lot of flukes are very thick and it takes a good amount of pressure to get the hook through the bait. JMPO Good Luck to You!!!! -Nitroman

No more fishing for me?
I find Fall fishing to be one of my most productive times to fish!!! The bass will be feeding up to get enough to last them into winter. During the cold months they are not as aggresive and only bitewhen they are extremley hungry or if the bait is slow enough. Bass do not want to give up more energy then what the food will return for them, if that makes sence to you. Fall is when you will catch a lot of bass. They are so aggresive where I fish, you can just about throw anything and they will bite. I'd hate to see anyone giving up on fishing this early!!! Good Luck to You!!!!

New LMB PB (Top Water)
Hey Jason, Next week won't be good for me because I have off wed and thurs but I have a tournament on Wed. night and I usually do not get home until 11-12pm since I live a good 1 1/2 hours from the river so I doubt I will be able to fish then. But if you want to I will do my best to go out on thursday. Especially since you won't be able to go out much I will go Thursday. I want to get you on some big fish. As your dad will tell you we only got onto one big fish and thats the one he landed. But let's plan on Thursday morning. I will give the owner a call and see what he says. PM to let me know if Thursday will work for you. -Joe

First time top water fishing
When you are fishing topwater frogs and shad it can be very hard to hook a fish especially if you are new to fishing. If I were you I would wait until you feel the weight of the fish. Then set the hook. When you set the hook don't set it like a sissy you want to really yank hard. The main reason for that is so the hook can come through the lure and insert itself into the fish's mouth. One of the best ways to learn how to fish topwater is to fish in the dark with no lights. This will teach you to become more patient with these baits. In the dark it is very hard to see the strike threrfore it makes it that much harder to pull the bait from the fish. Once you feel the fish that is when you want to reel up your slack and really jerk your rod tip up so that you can set the hook properly. One good trick you may want to try is when fishing with frogs you want to cut about 1/4"-1/2" slit between the legs of the frog and insert the hook into one of the legs of the frog. Most of the time (unless the bass are hungry as hell) bass will just strike at the legs since they are what makes the loud noise. Check out the library on the top of the page and you find many more new things you may not know. Good Luck to You!!!! -Nitroman
