Braid will help with your hooksets, anything with zero to little stretch will help. If you are fishing with mono it will float which is good but when you set the hook it stretchs more then you want it to which makes your hook sets not as effective as you want. I like using the rage tail frog or the ribbit frog. They have worked great for me!!! Congrats on your new found love and go get'em!!!! -Nitroman

Well I will be going again in October when I get back on nights.

Didn't say I can afford to fish. At this age, I really need to choose one hobby or the other (boats, or fishing - not both). I have just one bass rod because I go broke buying boat stuff. Don't even have the cash for a few bags of soft plastics in a color that I actually use (got plenty in colors I don't - I "collect" fishing tackle - that is the only way I can convince myself that I haven't wasted so much money on stuff I use) Been doing a lot of elec. only fishing, as I can't afford to put 6 gallons of gas in the boat. Of course, I found a heck of a deal on the outboard that I would really like on my main boat, and this weekend I may end up trying to sell off my other one, and use up every bit of cash that I had saved towards a tackle order to get that, although there isn't anything wrong with the motor on there now (except for the fact that it runs on liquid gold - and isn't the "ideal" motor for that boat) LOL I am right with you!!!

Sam, I'm sure flippin4it will find out before we do ;D I'm not going to sound like the hardcore cop on here but I do not think it is a good idea to trespass to fish. I think it is a terrible idea that will land you in jail. And trust me I know I am a deputy and we arrest people for this all the time. I'm just trying to help you out. -Nitroman

I may have the same problem that you have. I will fish something for a little while but I cannot stick with it if it is not performing for me. I want to learn but I'm afraid the only way I will learn is if I only take a jig with me when I go. I don't like going fishing and working so hard all day with only one bait and not catching anything. I know sometimes that is the easiest way to determine if that bait will work but I'm not sure I want to take that step. I like to vary my baits but I really want to learn how to catch fish on jigs... I'm lost :-[ -Nitroman

I'm not exactly sure Catt, I have never really had much luck with jigs unless I am fishing around lay-downs. I have used red/black in murky water (never caught anything) and I have used blue/black and only caught 1 by swimming it but it was small and a big disappointment to me. I have tried other colors that I have but still no luck. I am really wanting to get big into jig fishing because I know that jigs can really produce for some of the members here on BR and I want to be in with that crowd!! -Nitroman

Okay I'm not new to bass fishing but I still have several questions that have yet to be answered. Now if this question has already been asked then I apologize. I have a pretty clear lake I fish (Private) and I have tried throwing jigs but with no success. I have thrown Blue/black jibs with a rage tail craw as a trailer. The only way I have caught one is by swimming it. But that was the only fish I have ever caught on a jig at this lake. Color seems to be the problem so if anyone could get me up to date then I will hopefully be able to get some good picks as I know there are some terrific bass in this lake. Thanks -Nitroman

HELL YEA RON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is freaking awesome!!!!! I wish I didn't have to work this whole weekend or I would have offered to help you out. I'm glad you got your 2 week old poles back!!!! LOL Now its just something you can sit back and joke about since now everyone is okay and you at least got back $400.00 worth of the $600.00 you thought you were going to loose.
