Building a brushpile ?
If it is your lake I would take trimmings from an oak tree and tie them to concrete blocks so they do not move. Oak, Locust, maple, poplar, birch, beechnut, pine and furs all hole fish. But I would definatley recommend oak, They are normally larger and therefore provide more cover. Christmas tree are also very benificial but putting only 1 won't do much, I would put out about 5-10 trees in one spot because once the movement of the water takes the leaves off them it will not provide much cover. Just my 2 cents

Hanover County VA Bass fishing?
HANOVER???? Come on!!! I'd hate to be animal control in the Richmond Area, Hell try Fauquier County Sheriff's Office we have a spot open for Animal Control here!!! But if your heart is set on Hanover my bets bet is to tell you to talk to "SAM". He is July's BR Elite member and he reside in Richmond. He should be able to tell you all you need to know. Here is the link to his profile you can PM him from there. http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?action=viewprofile;username=3A2824490 But if you don't get the job with Hanover try checking us out.

I did it!
I'm a full out Nitro boat owner. I love mine but the only thing I would change is to buy a larger model. By the way I'm looking for good deals... hint hint. But as far as Insurance goes I would definatley look towards Nationwide. I have Nationwide on my boat and it costs a total of $30.00 a month. NOONE could beat this deal. Happy to hear about your boat!!!!

What would you guys suggest???
I have fished out of both, I started with a very small jon boat and it worked well for me in large ponds and small lakes. But when I wanted to start fishing larger bodies of water I started shopping around. I wanted a nice BRAND NEW bass boat. but I couldn't afford it at the time and I was in such a need for a boat that I pushed myself into a fiberglass 14' boat. I had to do a lot of work to turn it into the bass boat I wanted but I finally got it into the shape I wanted. It did not have a motor so the only thing I used was a trolling motor. It worked for a while but I still didn't have the satisfation that I wanted with a boat. So I started looking around and finally after about 3 months of researching new and old boats I found a nice bass boat. I got a hell of a deal on it and it was pretty much in mint condition. My advice for you is that if you are going to be fishing big bodies of water all the time get you a boat that will run. But if you are fishing locals ponds and small lake then get a smaller boat. There is no sense in spending money if it is not worth it for you. Especially in todays market boats are high plus gas prices and housing... Think about the long haul...(Later in your lifetime) You are going to want to get a house and get married and so on so plan for the future. Don' and I repeat DON'T get yourself stuck in a hole so young in life. I did that when I was 18... gotta have all new toys and do everything and spend money like its going out of style, but trust me it will catch up with you in the end. Just my 2 cents

I need a Guide to show me around.....
Ever since I have joined this Forum I have been talking to different people about fishing the Potomac River. I ALWAYS launch my boat out of Hope Springs Marina in Aquia Creek, and I have gotten on the fish a lot of the time but there are some days that I just cannot catch one! Today I had a tournament out of Hope Springs and for the first time I was able to bring 5 fish to the weigh-in. I guessed that we had about 10 lbs. which made me happy just thinking about it but when we weighed in all 5 fish only went 6.7. I am so sick of only catching small fish. I have a good grass mat that I fish all the time and the only bait I can catch fish on is topwater (rage tail shad). Before the grass got thick I was able to throw some finesse worms and get good strike but now that the grass has gotten thick It is hard to get my bait to punch through. I think it is almost completely pointless to punch through the grass since there is only 2-3' of water in the grass matted area. I have found a good drop-off near another grass flat that goes from about 4' of water with thick grass and then it drops to about 12-14' but it is not a straight drop off. It gradually declines, it takes about 20-25 ft to get from 4'-12'. I have been fishing watermelon colored zoom lizards and jigs and Carolina rigged worms, with NO SUCCESS!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have another buddy who can fish this same spot and catch 3lbers. all day long. I even went out with him fishing the exact same way with no luck. I'm very confused with this spot. My last and by far the best spot I have is a large group of lily pads. I can throw a rage tail shad or a frog in here all day long and it is none stop action. But the fish are dinks.... 2-2.5lbers. I want to catch LARGER bass. I need as much help as possible.... I don't mind getting skunked by trying new areas but I would like to find at least one good area that I can go to that will perform for me like I need it to. I have seen many guys come to the scales with 6-8lbers. now what are they doing differently that I am doing so wrong??? I know this has been a long read but I'm sick and tired of wasting my time with dinks. I had a tournament tonight like I stated above and I caught ONE fish in the grass mat that went about 2lbs and the rest of my bass were caught in the group of lily pads, Yea it was a blast watching the bass blow up on topwater but I want a hawg bass or hell even a bunch of bass that can go over 4lbs. If there is anyone in the South East section that knows a guide or is a guide or knows Aquia Creek and would like to take me out cheap or free to show me what I'm doing wrong or not doing that would be great. I know I put "cheap or free" thats becuase I am wasting all my money in Tournament that I obviously have no chance of winning, but I can't stop it's like an addiction hahaha. Thanks Alot in advance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

First post... Need advice
Throw large topwater baits like a buzz bait or a spook , or a rage tail shad, hell even try a frog out. I would try a rat-l-trap that stands out. I hope you find a big 'en!!!

New at freshwater fishing. Very clear water fishing
I would try a flashy jerkbait. Jerkbaits are great for very clear water.

Walmart Scale
Awesome work BassChump!!!!!!!! I'm happy for you!!! How come you ain't got a pic of your daughter holding that hawg??? But about your lake I would say to start out with a rage tail shad for early morning topwater. Fish the reeds, you should see the bass feeding at 6am. Then try a spinnerbait or a red eye shad, I hope some of my suggestions help you!!!!!! Good Luck bud!!!!

Flukes/ Slug-go
On the Slug-go it has the little marks about half way down for added movement, Should you hook the bait with a smaller hook so the hook goes in just above the marks??? or does that not matter?

Flukes/ Slug-go
I fish a tidal water mainly, and I have caught quite a few bass on a fluke. I fish a lot of shallow water where I can fish the fluke fairly fast but I am trying to learn the deep water better. I was wondering if, when fishing a fluke should I add a weight to help it get to the bottom faster? I also have a good amount of the "Slug-Go" baits and I'm not so sure how to fish these baits. If anyone could please educate me on fishing them I would greatly appreciate it. Also the fluke.... I let it sink about 30-40 seconds and usually it gets down to about 5-8' depending on the tide and then I just jerk it and pause and jerk and pause.... Am I fishing this properly? Please help me... Thank You!!!!!!! Nitro

Plastic frogs.
One thing I can add to this, buy a weedless hook for frog fishing, I know it sounds outdated but if you take the hook all the way through the bait and attach the weedgaurd, it is much easier for the bass to knock the weed gaurd off the hook then it is to set the hook through a thick plastic frog. Another suggestion to you is to take some supper glue and squirt it into the hole in the lure close to the eye of the hook. This helps the lure stay on the top of hook instead of being pulled to the bottom of the hook. Good Luck bud!!!
