  1. Fishing from shore I have to deal with what it is. Clear water, smaller sized natural colored baits fished faster. Slightly Stained Water. ( this is brought up sometimes) overlaps clear to stained water smaller sized baits in natural color and brighter colors. Fished faster and a tad slower. Stained Water, medium sized baits brighter color fished slower. muddy water, largest sized baits, brightest colors fished the slowest. for my a bait having a rattle and using a scent is a plus. "Sometimes" it's the challenge that keeps me fishing. As to what will catch fish on this trip today. It's not always a given. What worked last year or yesterday isn't a given today. It's a new day and we're starting over. What's the water conditions on top might not be the water conditions as we go deeper in the water column. I figured this out, the water was slightly stained on top. No bait colors worked as I went deeper but I put on a firetiger I caught bass. My point is we can't plan out what the fish will strike. Be flexible try different baits and colors, then different presentations too. Don't be in a rush to fish and find yourself fishing too fast. Make the bait look like a easy meal. I like to move my blade baits just fast enough to make the blades spin. Just that little vibration and flash will attract them. If your not catching anything regroup and attack with different tactics. Don't give up. try shallower baits that run above the sight line. Try deeper running baits below the sightline. sightline, above the sightline is where we can see the bait moving. The bass maybe aggressive and come up to strike it. below the sightline is where the bait is out of our sight yet in the basses face and strike zone. using a spinnerbait or inline spinner we can go fast or slow it down to work both sightlines. When in doubt try this. im stuck with what water condition it is. Only our skills can make a difference. Sorry for the long post but it's all a tooth on a gear it all works together.
  2. For many years it's been rods on clearance or discounted but I use good quality copolymere line with good quality reels. I was happy with what ever brand of rod I had just to be fishing. Then talking here years ago I decided to move up to the LEWS brand. I still have my old south bend and Shakespeare's stuff too tucked away. But the sales on better rods does look tempting. check Walmart often, even all winter long. Start watching there clearance section from January on.

I wacky rig a senko on a 249W eagle claw weedless hook on a 1/8oz brass bullet weight with a brass clicker c-rig with a 24" leader. The 1/8oz weight gives it a faster fall but it allows me to twitch it as it falls or keep my line taunt as it falls. My rod tip is always connected to the senko. I can feel the slightest touch at the rod tip. I started using this setup post spawn in the springtime. I caught bass right away. The senko is listed in my ritual of baits i throw till I get action. Remember I fish from shore mostly at dropoffs on manmade dams that were once used for water power centuries ago.
  4. I use the mister twister 4" split double tail grub for most of my trailers. once you see it in the water swimming like it's alive you will agree. I cut the length of the grub body to fit the size / hook application I'm using it for. https://www.mistertwister.com/information/split-double-tail/335#SDT10 11BKS

I use a c-rig with a 1/8oz brass bullet weight with a brass clicker, a 24" and a 249W eagle claw weedless hook with the senko wacky rigged in the center of the senko. The orginal senko product seems to be one senko, per fish caught. Average. Some off the wall brands last longer. i won't get into colors here.

This is a tough one, sooner or later they all catch fish. I purchased some discontinued rapala Shad raps and there is a shiney green one I caught fish on one day while we were pond hopping. but my favs have been; orginal floater f7 blue perch silver black gold black.
  8. I use a Amber/red senko, a reddish senko, a reddish creaturebait, on occasion. On a 1/8oz c rig from shore at a drop off. Early mornings around 9am. I use a 6" blackworm splitshot rigged. (Anytime) And a 7" green shad worm c rigged. I use a 10" & 12" culprit worm in blackshad and redshad too.(evenings before dark)
  9. We hunted bears for decades. More exciting, more of a rush. I was about 10 to 20' from one in the 6' tall grass. Then a little bird got in the tree I was under and sang it's heart out to the tune go back, danger. That bear went back down the edge of the apple orchard the way he came, then went around the orchard staying in the cover of the woods till he got behind me were he wanted to go. He was a young cub who left the sow. The last time I was up there his scat could fill half a five gallon bucket. He's a big bruin. We drove my jeep as far up into the mountains as far as far as we could go. Then walked a very old logging trail. Only passable on foot. We go where most hunters don't go. We enjoyed stalking the bears. We seen a sows tracks, while her cubs tracks zig zag It's mothers tracks. There was mountainlion tracks following the bears tracks. Since we didn't want to shoot the cub and the sow we backed out of there. They say mountainlions are extinct. I took pictures of the mountainlion tracks next to a pack of cigarettes and sent them to a tracking school student and had them verified as mountainlion tracks. the powers to be say these mountainlions must be released pets. There in vt, ct, mass, Maine I seen the sighting reports.
  10. My sons 2000 ranger 4x4 truck had 140k miles on it. She still ran good but that new salt there using on the icy roads ate the frame. She looked new on the outside. While we were too busy with ford vs Chevy the Japanese snuck in a whole bunch of cars. But with the increase in mass production they are having quality problems too. I knew they would once the production increased. sounds like your thermostat.
  11. I would like to hunt for bigfoot. There was a night sighting near my new place. It's on the bfro reporting sight. In Litchfield, ct at Roraback state park in the ct section by a night fisherman. I have heard bf howls here in the summer nights. A few times. https://www.bfro.net/GDB/show_report.asp?id=5121 https://www.bfro.net/GDB/default.asp
  12. seen another bear on the exit ramp on the highway she was getting off. She walked through an intersection with two traffic lights. My doctors office was nearby, she walked through the parking lot. Of course some people were taking pics of her with their phones. A bear can run 35mph in a heart beat. People have no clue how much danger there in to get a picture.
  13. I use the size 0 silver blade with the white split double grub trailer it comes with. I also add a trailer hook too. I twitch it as it falls into the weed pockets. A shot of scent helps too. This timber doodle works great. I do use all three sizes, "00", "0", "1". I also use the mister twister 4" split double tail grub that the timber doodle comes with as a trailer on my spinnerbaits too. Like spinnerbaits I have no clue what the bass think what the timber doodle is but they strike it.
  14. I set up a 6.3 on a spinnerbait rod. By the end of the trip I was tired. My arms were sore I got a workout. I went back to the lower ratio.
  15. Received good news today I went to a vascular doctor and did a kat scan on my legs, my veins are ok no operations or treatments are needed. I need prescription compression stockings. One more thing not to worry about. Got lucky today.
  16. She probably heard a male hooting lastnight and was headed into that direction. She went by people and traffic she was in a mission..
  17. Mike, it will workout trust me I been there many times, keep your resume updated. Take pictures of your work if you can.
  18. You guys are a bad influence on me. I ordered more from lurenet. Now I see deals at mister twister and mepps. the mepps timber doodle is the bait for weeds. It out fished a guy next to me with livebait, we were neck and neck till the timber doodle pulled ahead and never looked back. The silver blade with the white trailer. please check our Sponcers first. They support us too. I'd rather pay a tad more and support this sight. It's a win/win for all of us, they need to eat too. I've seen Walmart put stuff on clearance one month then six weeks later put the same stuff on the shelf at full price. Is there a experation date on crankbaits? Watch Walmart for clearances after Christmas till spring.
  19. When I replace trebles I go up one size on the rear treble hook.
  20. Remember to always be with someone who runs slower than you. Lol. In that case my sport model walker has no engine I'm doomed.
  21. Please don't hit a bear, be on the lookout. We seen a bear on the exit ramp on the highway today. My doctors office is near by. The bear crossed the doctors office parking lot. She made it into the woods. This bear was in middlebury, ct not far from where I fish.
  22. I ordered from lurenet, bomber FAT A's, rebel crawfish cranks, and from Rapala. I'm removing some baits out of my tackle box to give others a chance in the pool. I rotate baits often. im getting free shipping so I'm still above the dollar menu at Mickey d's. when I was a kid I sold my lunch to buy fishing stuff.
  23. I seen a guy killing bass on a ribbit frog by constantly twitching it.
  24. At home I have many of the 3700 boxes filled with hooks, filled with Carolina weights, Carolina rig accessories and sieverts jigs. This is my stash. I just gave my magnum boat bag to my son filled with 3700 boxes with new lures. I use those large spinnerbait boxes for storage at home too. For spinnerbaits, Bizzbaits, worms assorted by length, creature baits, etc. I have 17 of these boxes filled with baits. When i I changed over to lures only I used my livebait money to buy more lures. I was spending $50 a week on livebait. Don't ask me what my tackle room looks like, I haven been in it in a longtime. my problem is I just don't use one bait. If I had a boat I'd need another boat for my tackle. Lol
  25. I fished a hidden pond that's spring feed deep in the woods. The water is the clearest I've ever fished. Nothing was working. I could see moving black lines in the water they were big bass. I put on a rebel bug in bumble bee. I hooked a large bluegill as I reeled it in a big bass was charging towards it, I pulled it out of the water just intime. Then I caught on there main diet was panfish.
