Been fishing them alot of years. And I agree, they are a good bait used as a jerk bait or steady retrieve.

Yep. You need some kind of backing. Some guys will use electrical tape around the spool shaft so the braid gets a bite. Others will spool a few yds of mono and then go with the braid. Using the mono and then braid saves on how much braid your willing to put on. Hope this helps. And I think most would use the uniknot to join the two.

The most awesome finish I've ever seen. He sure got a fire lit under him towards the end. Didn't think it was gonna happen. Was like watching a close one at home plate. Watched the replay several times, and still in wonder. 8-)WOW 8-)

I'm not sure what difference this would make for you, but when I go out, I'll take it easy for about the first 15-20 minutes. Whether it's braid or mono, I'll give the line a chance to get wet, and that gives me a chance to get "warmed up". Normally don't have much problem if I follow that one rule for myself. When I rush it and want distance on the first couple of casts, that's when the swearing REALLY begins!
