  1. I understand what you are saying...There is a difference between taking one snake for protection and walking in the woods with gun and just blasting every snake you see just beacause you can. Thats going out of your way to kill something.
  2. Baitmonkey12...lets not be ridiculous here. The turtles aren't going to massacre the fish population in a nano second. They don't go around killing fish just because they can. Its not like they are successful everytime they try to kill a fish. They miss sometimes to. They get one shot at it and if they don't get it they gotta regroup all over again. Would the ecosystem work if 1 animal just went on massive killing sprees annihilating anything it could eat? If the turtles were as bad as you make it sound then Bass Fishing wouldn't exsist.
  3. ugh........
  4. I would love to fish for these species... Not in order... 1) Peacock's-No specific species... 2) Payara-Those things are beasts they got nasty, nasty teeth and you can find them in South America just like the Peacocks. 3) Snook-They seem like the closest thing to a saltwater bass beside Stripers etc 4) Artic Grayling-They are just magnificent! They are a gorgeous fish different shades of blues and grays...a beautiful fish. i'll add more when I think of them...I have them on the tip of my tounge lol. Here's a Pyara for those who have never seen them. Thier mouth is like a swiss army knife. The two big teeth you see, if they lose one there is another right below it. They come up like they are on a wheel. Awsome fish.
  5. Yea the cold can be killer but fun too! I gotta laugh at these guys on T.V. "We're fishing down here in Florida...and its cold...its 70!" OH NO!!!! lol. I think they were more concerned about the fishing. 5 degrees is a big difference down there because it is always hot, hot and hotter... Sorry to ramble lol. Sounds like you had a great time! I was shocked to see that the bass are still hitting my Sizmic toads in late October! Guess how I capitalized on that? I missed every fish! lol. Good job out there!
  6. Sounds like a beaut! Pantera is also a great band! ;D I'm a bank beater myself so I can't help you with the boating thing...just thought i'd give a a congrats anyway! Goodluck with it!
  7. Awsome! Small ponds are also a great place to learn new lures and techniques! Keep that place a secret lol.
  8. lol the look on your face is priceless....your like WHAT THE HELL!?....I DON'T KNOW WHAT HAPPENED! lol...don't worry. My avatar picture is a 2.10 pounder that hit a buzzbait...no one was there and it was dead quiet...I was shaking so much! I can't imagine what that thing was like. On a more serious note...I would say 6-7, 8 if your lucky. Try your best to get a scale. If you get another fish like this heres a suggestion......cut off your lure. Have your buddyhold the fish's mouth closed and tail together. Then take line from your reel start at the tip of the mouth and run it all the way down to the tail. Cut the line and put it in a safe place. Then when you get off the water measure the length of the line and enter it into the fish calculator. It will give you an average weight to length estimate. Great fish! http://bassresource.com/bassfishing/fishcalculator.html
  9. usually i dont even have them long enough to hold them. they are good at unhooking themselves once landed. otherwise, i grag just like how you see in the pic. man handle them. i tried to lip a 2 pomder once, it worked until he went all crazy and chomped me. The best way to hold them is to put your hand over thier head and push your index finger and thumb on the gills. There is a spot where the gill plate and the body meet...when you push the gill plate down it is flush with the body. Put your thumb and index finger under the gill plate and push. It has the same affect that lipping a bass does. Or get a Boga grip....but thats gonna cost ya...see picture below. Edit-The only thing wrong with this picture is where the guy's finger are in the gills. Put them over the gill plate so that when the fish squirms it won't injure its gills.
  10. Yea and they each weigh a ton lol ;D

  14. And was it a blast! Great weather 60 dead flat. We were fishing on The Celtic Quest otut of Montauk. I was lucky enough to be invited by my friend. It was a Noreast.com trip. All NE members. The friend that invited me...his dad owns NE. I'm good friends with him. It was a lot of fun. Great crew. I only picked up 2 fish but they were nice. About a 4 or 5 pound Blackfish and a nice pound to 2 pound porgy. The 2 pool fish were almost dead even at 9 pounds a piece. Old fish too! they are estimated at 40 years old! There were 100 keeper Blackfish mixed in with blues 1 keeper Striper(released) and some Seabass and Porgy's. Incuding a huge Seabass caught by my friends dad that went 2 or 3 pounds. The average tog was about 4 pounds. It kinda sucked seeing all those fish go because it takes a long time for them to get big. If it were just my friend, his dad and I we would have caught and released them all. I wasn't gonna say anything. Its not my place. Crew was great as well. Not to mention I got out of school as well. It was really special that they invited me. I was so pumped. I didn't mind that I only had 2 fish becuase they were catching all around me and it was just a lot of fun! Great time. :) 8-)
  15. Not all of those fish were Largemouth's...Some were Spotted. They were beautiful spots too. Congrats to them!

yes, 5ft is short, and ugly sticks are HORRIBAL for plastics. The reason you cant get your hook sets in sooner is becuase you cant feel when the bass first picks up the bait. You need to feel the instant they bite, and set the hook pronto. You cant do this, however, inless you can feel them taking it. If i where you, i would go to dicks tomarrow, and buy one of these rods, in 6' 6" mediem heavy action: Berkly Lightning Rod $30 BPS Tourney Speacal: $40 Fenwick Eagle GT: $50 Pfluger Trion $50 BPS Bionic Blade: $70 If you can afford the Bionic Blade, then get it. If you cant, a Lightning Rod will work good. But what ever you do, do not fish plastics with a ugly stick. Matt Yes...a new rod will help. You don't want to set the fish right away. Do a three count in your head......1.....2.....3....reel down and set the hook hard!. Bass' mouths are bony.
  20. How big was it....when they are really young and small they have brillant colors to ward off predators...also it may have been the water or glare. It could have been a number of things.
  21. OLN sucks. The Outdoor Channel is way better. Nothing but hunting and fishing.
