great topwater pond action
so i recently went on a trip to a fair sized farm pond(never fished it before) with some friends, and boy it turned out great. we got here at about 3 or so, but had to go back about 5:30. anyways, this is what i managed to whip up: first fish, second both were caught at around 4:30, on the rage tail shad, within 20 feet of each other, in about 4 casts altogether! they werent really close to any structure, just out is a little deeper water from the shore. its about 90 degrees out mind you! for the first hour or so, i tossed around a 5" trick stick close to shorline structure, but no luck. clouds started to roll in, and blocked out the sun for maybe 5 or 10 minute intervals. i decided to tie on a topwater of some sort, and tried the rage tail for old times sake.(never had much luck on it before) funny thing is, i only caught fish on it when the clouds blocked the sun. go figures. got lots of hits and fallowers, but just failed to hook anything else. pretty funny story, after i caught the first one, they said, "now, bring in a 5 lber"... lol, tried for a seven , but no go. -j

Rage Tail Shad
how long is your rod? (no pun intended) ;D

Rage Tail Shad
im a believer of this bait now! just caught 2 nice ones yesterday, the action of these baits are awsome. work really well as a buzzbait alt. make sure when your fishing it, that the tail is makin a nice "plop plop" cadence. i generally fish em with a medium retrieve, but you gotta let the fish tell you what they want. -j first one, terrible pic, lol second one

ID'ing Fish Parasites
lol, just pick em out of the flesh, if they look like a grain of rice, then i believe they are round worms, correct me if im wrong anybody.

Split shot
i think the smaller the bait for split shot the better. as far as wieght, use the lightest you can get a way with. 4 inch finnese worms, 3 and 4 in. senkos, grubs, ect. works really well for finding fish in more open, shallow water for cruising bass. is a wonder bait in ponds! as far as creature baits, maybe a zoom baby brush hog? idk, i dont use creature baits.

Spinnerbait help?
i do good with em in shallow water, usually slightly stained, but a spinnerbait is really versatile in any water conditions. i like using smaller baits for some reason, seem to get more bites, and not always smaller fish either

Favorite Spinnerbait?
stanley wedge series, 1/8 oz. i usually fish in slightly stained water, tandem willow is money for me.

ID'ing Fish Parasites
yes they are safe to eat. the parasites that infect fish are harmless to humans. deep fry em, there delicious

Lexington KY lakes??
i live only 20 mins. from lexington. the only BIG lakes that are near by are taylorsville lake, herrington, and numerous small lakes. most are between 1 1/2 - 2 hours away. now, to be honest with you, elkhorn creek is a SUPERB smallmouth bass fishery, and most of the creek is easily asscesible for a small boat or wading. all you really need is an ultralight spinning outfit, and a small box full of small cranks and jigs and your set. a place you might want to check out is a small lake called cedar creek lake. its about 2-2 1/2 hours from lex, and is the only lkae in the state that is completly devoted as a trophy bass fishery. its only been there since 2002, and the lake record is a 7.10 already.

What's Working For You?
<<buzzbaits(biggest fish of year came off of this, fish in avvy) 5 in. senkos baby boo jigs small x-raps have had AWSOME luck on all these baits this year so far. im guessing since the weather around here latley has been really stable, fish seem to always bite.
-
What used to work for you...but don't anymore
i havnt had any luck on power worms this year. its maddening, i bought a 100 ct. bag of em, and all i seem to use em for is spinnerbait trailers. :'(

Boogee baits
i am also clueless. th only time i had luck with em is when i slow dragged them up a point in late fall.

Master That Bait Contest-New Shak-E2 Head-please read
ive got an idea. ITS MINE! lol. i call it the "shakE-lina" rig.it consists of the, of course shakE2 head(3/8 oz.) with a plastic of choice(kinami flash in pic) with a peice of surgical tubing slid down the shank of the hook. tied off to the hook is about a foot of line, with a small floating plug(small shad rap in pic) tied off to the end. im thinkin it might work well on post spawn bass located around dropoffs in spwning coves, or around shallow points or flats. hop it, drag it, swim it, im thinkin just about anything will work with it.

Problem w/ Plastic Hook-up Ratio
just sounds like you need a longer rod. if your gettin short strikes, do whats called the whoop snap. you drop the rod about 8-12 in, to give your line a little slack. then whip it back. your setting the hook on slack line, might work out better for you if your using line with a lot memory.

senko/jig combo
so i was recently out fishing, and came up with a really good jig and pig combo. it consists of a baby boo jig, and about a 3 inch portion of a senko. the trick is, you take a pair of sharp siccors, and cut about 3/4 to 1 inch of the tail section, making it into a forked tail. thread it length wise on the jig. worked really well flipping it into schools of bass fry. must of looked like a bluegill or somthing, becuz the bass were inhaling it! just wondering if anyone has tried it before.

Post Spawn - Baits&Tactics
if you can find some bass fry, try pitchin a senko style bait right into em. the males are close by, and will usually hit fairly quikly. to catch some of the females, now they are usually harder to catch. if they recently came off the beds, thats gonna make it even harder. the females are usaully in a little deeper water and rather lathargic. i usually have success with some sort of shakey head worm or texas rigged craw. now it the females have been off the beds for a while, up the size of your offerings. at this time, they are usualy rather agressive, making up for lost nurishment throughout the spawn. try buzzbaits, swimbaits, and large texas rigged worms. this is what ive had sucsess with so far this year
