  1. a good rule of thumb is, if you hit somthing, STOP. nine times out of ten, if your lure is a floater, it will just raise up out of the wayof the snag. and if your not already, try a more forgiving rod, it will absorb some of the impact when the lure hits somthing. if your not getting snagged, your not fishin the right places. but if your gettin snagged every cast, slow down! i know its impossible to not ever get snagged, but get out and take some time to rasie your patience level. slower is usually better! rip some jaws! -j
  2. ive been on this forum since may, and im not even a full member yet. ive only seen you on here for thae past month or so, and you already are! its not a race man, i know youve got a lot to ask, but google doesnt bite, i promise. -j
  3. paca craw and double tail grub for swimming eakins craw for finesse zoom super chunk for dragging on bottom thats all ive used, there are so many trailers out there it hard to pick just one.
  4. how do you fish your jigs with that baby paca craw rw? ive recently bought a pack of em to try em out. ive heard you basically swim em because the pincers dont float to well. i love the action though. those pincers are like 2 big colorado blades under water. -j
  5. thnx rw. i will have to remeber that next time. -j
  6. so i just bought a spool of yozuri hybrid( not u.s.) and i was wondering when tying a polomar knot with this line, should i wet it first to prevent slippage? btw, i love this stuff. it lays on my bc really well and is a big change from p-line. it has little stretch and is pretty darn sensitive. i thank rw for pointing this stuff out. -j
  7. how do those oldhams work for ya catt? im liking that tinsel lookin stuff in the skirt.
  8. im curious as to what your alls fav. "type" of jig. (finesse, bulky. heavy, ect.)
  9. my bread and butter lure for years when i was younger was a 7 in. black powerworm. i really didnt know how to fish other lures then. i mean sure, i tried other lures, but whats the fun in that when you dont catch anything? ;D but now, i cant pinpoint one lure over another. all the lures i have actually took the confidence in using have been very consistent. im planning on makin it a jig, but only time will tell. -j
  10. as bigfruits has stated, eakins jigs are agreat all around finesse jig. i personally do not use bulkier, heavier jigs, i have no need for them. most waters i fish around here, the crawfish are not huge, so smaller baits are a must. exept eakins heavy cover jigs in 3/8 oz., if you call that heavy . for some good starting points on trailers, uncle josh pork frogs and zoom super chunks are about as basic as it gets. match the color of the trailer to the jig is a big must. its all about being natural with jigs. i personally have never seen a chartruse crawfish, and chances are neither have the fish. ;D -j
  11. they are great fall baits. i like to put a regular treble in the front, and a smaller ewg treble in back for sniffers. a god tip to do when fishing these is to not just reel at a steady even pace. throw in some pulls, jerks, twitches, ect. to find out what the fish want. -j
  12. funny thing is, our state record(ky) is like 13 lbs.(lm), just a pound and some change from our record smallie.
  13. looks like a blast! ive always wanted to fish a river like the susq.
  14. good lord those florida strain have some big mouths! nice catch! -j
  15. man! i wish my local creek would produce like that. nice fish! i just noticed somthing. is that a spinning reel on a casting rod? or am i seeing things? :-? that may be the culprit to why you couldnt hook into those bigger ones right there. my buddy does the same thing with his, loses any good fish he hooks into. ;D
  16. fish it to where you cant see it. idk where i heard this from, but they call this the "twilight zone". has made me more confident with spinners while doing this. -j
  17. Agree. Certainly. Absolutely. positively!
  18. rapala minow rap size o9 in shad color.
  19. well, if you know were the fish are at, you have a better chance than half the field right off the bat. cofidence is key. good luck! -j
  20. 3 oz. seriously though, you cant tell how big a fish is in pics like that. ive seen 3 #ers that look like there six. nice fish though.
  21. work points with a husky jerk. hair jig/pig on rocky 45 degree banks, and a small sammy if the fish are active.
  22. ive actually gotten a lot better this year. fish a lot harder also. never caught a single fish on jig before until this year. ive really stuck with it, and amost use one evertime i go. catches have beeb more consitant also. out of maybe 40-50 trips this year, and have only been skunked twice. its good to be patient, at least now when i am i actually catch somthing ;D -j
  23. desighn plays a huge roll in jig fishing. all jigs are made with a hook, head, and skirt. btw, lbh, i heard ya on bassfeed, great insight! you dont need the best to fish your best. i love it! -j

tight wobbling cranks, husky jerks, and swimming jigs are my fav's. -j
  25. maybe in "general". i find that farther from the truth. i find jigs as one of the only lures that will work year round, atleast consistantly.if i recall, i thought jigs were originaly designed for sluggish, cold water fish? oh, to stay on topic, i would chose a jig over a creature bait anyday. -j
