Let's talk swim jigs, both the technique and the tackle....
i usually just reel steady, but if im fishing grass i will pop it if it gets burried in it. i like to use zoom super chunks for a more fluid motion, rage and paca chunks if the fish are fairly active. for a swimming jig, i think 3/8 is about the heaviest i will go, but 1/4 oz is what i use most of the time. darker colors like pumpkin and watermelon are good for stained water, blk n blue for murkier conditions. most of the time i like just solid black, just personal preferance. white is good for clear water and if bass are keeing in on shad. i usually use it as a sub for spinnerbaits. its a more subtle presentation. my favorite time to fish em is if fish are cruisin, but not takin faster baits like cranks and spinners.i like prespawn and fall, or when they are activley feeding on flats in summer. there are plently of ways to fish em, jigs are one of the most versitle baits known to man if you know how to use em.

Where can I move?
well, we do have winters, but kentucky is a beutiful state and is pretty great for fishing 9-10 months out of the year. kentucky and barkley out in western ky, and dale hollow and cumberland(river and lake) in the south, plus the ohio river and lots of smaller lakes in eastern kentucky that have great fishing. plus the people here will actually say hi to you when your walking down the street. ;D

Solo or group fishing -- your preference
its a toss up for me. most of the time i like to bass fish alone. i actually catch fish that way. ;D but i do like catfishing with my buddy. he runs a trotline while i use jugs. who ever gets the most whiskers buys breakfast. his wallet sure does take a hurtin while hes with me.

spring night fishing
so me and my buddies are goin night fishing(trot lining and jug fishing for cats while bass fishing inbetween). but its going to be cold, low 40s, the day after a bad cold front. yeah, were brave, but we are gonna do it anyways. any ideas on where to start and what to use? btw, we are fishing a small private lake, with lots of boat docks.the water temps are probably in the low to mid 50s. im hoping the fish will be fairly shallow, but dought it. :-/

Bass Fillets
creek bass are the only bass i ever eat. thats why i like to kill two birds with one stone: run a trotline for whiskers, with a bass fishing fiesta inbetween! ol'e! ;D

A question for BPS Tourney Special Rod
cranks, buzzbaits, small spinnerbaits, topwaters(poppers, spooks, ect) finesse jigs, wacky rigged stick baits and maybe light wire texas riggs. that size action rod and length is pretty versatile. i wouldnt use anything with "thick" hooks though, like heavy jigs or high gage ewg hooks, as it takes somthing with more back bone to get a good hookset. maybe use braided line if you plan on doing that. nice rod for the money, i just bought one (6' mh) because my st coix got snapped in a car door! >

Swim worm = only bait I need?
i was the same way when i first started gettin into bass fishing. i used to throw nothing but black power worms, but it got pretty old after the first year. my advice is if you have absolutley no confidence in other baits, try another lure that has a proven record for catching fish and is fairly easy to fish, like a spinnerbait or crank. i used to have zero confidence in jigs, as i thought it was to hard to fish em until last year i broke down and fished them thoroughly. i practically fish a jig just like a worm, but i have swam em, pitched em and dragged em with similar results. seem to attract bigger fish for me.
-
What is your favorite top water lure?
buzzbait. all my big fish last year came off of one.
-
money craw
i almost use pacas and rage exclusivley, just wondering how the money craws action is underwater. they look cool.

JERKBAITS!!
rapala glass husky jerk. caught my biggest fish on it fall of 07. an 8lb hybrid. needless to say i didnt go hungry that night. ;D

What's your longest smallmouth ever?

how would YOU fish this?
thanks for all the replies guys. spring is just around the corner here. seems as soon as the water gets in the mid fifties, the fishing really fires up! unfortunately my pitchin skills have not thawed out yet! ;D

money craw
so i went to a local dicks and they had the new strike king plastics and yum plastics. i came across the money craw. looks cool, but 6.99 a pack? would i just be better of sticking with paca craws?
-
shakey head
the gambler giggy head is a good choice. the great thing about shaky heads is that you can fish anything on em. just make sure whatever softplastic you use floats. throw it around shallow wood, rocks, stumps. shake n' bake and hold on! :)also works great in deep water.

how would YOU fish this?
ive got somthing i would like you all to help me out with. there is a small lake that i fished a few times before in my child hood, but never caught any goodsize bass out of. its a public lake, with lots of pressure in the warmer times, but almost non existant this time of the year. its managed and ran by the kentucky department of fish and wildlife, and is FULL of good size bass, and i want to catch them! by the time i will get to fish it, these fish will probably be in prespawn. here is a link to a topographical map of it: http://fw.ky.gov/pdf/sportsmanslakes.pdf how would YOU fish it?

Most Memorable Fights (with a fish)
ive got quite a few, but i will go withe my most recent. it was this past november, and i was fishing a small local creek. it was like 50 degrees, with the water not much warmer. i was casting a buzzbait around for some reason, when somthing rocketed out of the water a good 2-3 feet. i thought it was a smallie at first, but i seen that black tail and i knew it was a largie. the battle didnt last long on my mh baitcast combo, but it sure suprised me how hard it fought, only being 18 inches. those creek fish outfight a lake fish anyday.

Are all spinnerbaits created equal?
when i first realy started to get into fishing i bought a couple of those cheap strikeking single colorado 1/4 oz baits. i had a couple of horizons at the time to, before terminator bought em out. caught more on the horizon, but bigger on the strike king cheapies. but, the strike kings just could not stay together. case in point, they will all catch fish, but components dictates their lifespan.

Chatterbaits
i have actually had good luck with them in cold water, dragging up points. just BARELY reeling to get it wobblin and hovering just off the bottom. i guess it looks like a shad or some other fish dying. as for brand, i used the cb pro in some silver and blue skirt, with either a live shiner nose hooked or burkley gulp shad.
-
Lures that DON"T work??
those fruity smellin, cheap renegade plastic worms from wally world... cant even get tap. I dont know whether the fish are supposed to bite it or i am.

Of All The New Baits by Netbait This Year, What One Do You Like The Most?
there baby pacs are great. i havnt really tried anything new though. i might try a few of em this year.
-
Favorite Spinner Bait brand?
I remember those. i went out and bought like 30 one day because tey were on sale. they really were qaulity baits. 3/8 oz. gold indiana-colorado blade with black skirt was a killer for me! but, i just stick w/ strike king now. cheap, and get the job done.

big shakin
thats exactly what i was looking for, thanks ghoti.
-
big shakin
thanks for all the replies. as with what branus has said, those jig heads do look great! but i would like to expiriment with a few brands, not buy in bulk, at least not yet.

Dumb Purchases
pflueger echelon spinning combo. got and thought wow! smooth spinning reel and light rod for 40 bux! tip broke off rod 3rd cast, and the reel sqweeks and wobbles so much now you would think i was strangling a rat. that and falcon flipping jigs. cant catch a single fish on em. oh well. they snag easy enough. ;D
