  1. so with great luck with a shaky head last season, ive got an idea about using somthing for bigger fish this season, and easy to use on heavier baitcasting tackle. with big straight worms like the 10" yum paddle tail or the 10" luck e strike baby huey in mind, is there any company that makes heads with big enough hooks and wieght for baits this large? all i have ever seen are the standard 3/0 and 4/0 hook sizes. any help would be fantastic! -jeff
  2. sorry if this is the wrong place to post, by all means move it if you have to. just wondering if anyone has used it before. if so, is it a good scale? i had a gift card to bass pro shops and bought one. just asking how good it is because of how cold it is i dont think ill be using it anytime soon. :-/

i dont ever have any luck with em, but i do on minnow raps for some reason, just a confidence thing. even at night when they tell you to use dark and noisy... i use a minnow rap with better results. go figure. :-?
  4. i cant help it. darn ape keeps telling me i might run out when im out fishing, even though i never do... :-?
  5. they arent bad, but i dont skimp on quality for hooks. not worth the risk. gammy and owner are the only ones i buy, except for bluegill. they end swallowing the hooks anyway. ;D
  6. i think a lot of what has helped me and what most people take for granted is the conservation and environmental improvements from state and federal DNR's. without them, there would be no fish to catch! also the fact that i dont care what you fish for, you can walk up to any angler and have a conservation with them. its the only sport i know that has such great commaderie. no one trying to gloat at being the best, just guys and gals just out to enjoy the great outdoors.
  7. thats a good point. i fish jigs on a 7'6'' pole, and i drag it about six inches. used to work well in a local creek i fish, but with it gettin colder i have to slow down. great post!
  8. nice! i have yet to fish ky lake, but i am really planning on it. planning on going to murray state when i graduate high school, lakes only 17 miles from campus.
  9. was the first rig i learned to use, and always in the back of my mind when im fishing. 7 inch black power worm. a staple in most anglers arsenal, but i can see from what a couple of people have posted so far and for me is not working as well as it used to. i m not giving up on it though.
  10. jigs. one of the most versatile lures. if the fish are hittin jigs, its gonna be a good day. -j
  11. i like a tail feather on my huskies. especially this time of year. gives it a more fluid look imo. also try it around some docks. just jerk it up to wher the fish are positioned and kill it. i had great luck doing that last year this time. ive had fish smash it in 50 degree water doing this. -j
  12. the faq is a great source of info on soft stick baits. as for color, i dont think it matters. i prefer wm. low budget has made a vid that clarifies this. hook wise, look into 4/0 gammy offset for the 5 inchers, 2/0 for 4, and 1/0 for 3.
  13. i use eakins jigs with an eakins craw with great success. the number one all time producer i believe is the 3 inch grub. rigged on an exposed jighead, its deadly.
  14. my season last year ended in early december. capped the year off wiith a 9lb. hybrid. pretty insane. im hopping to make it longer this year. -j
  15. this year my big bass money bait has been a buzzbait, hands down. ive just got into jig fishing this year, so im hoping to make it my hawg catcher in the future. they are just a blast to use. -j
  16. im not to picky when it comes to trailers. iprefer to use a super chunk, paca craw and eakins craw all on an eakins jig. a variety of trailers make it easy for me to accentuate one jig model and size. foe example, i like the super chunk for a fluid like momement in the water and a slower fall, great for swimming it. i like the paca for hopping the jig and giving it good vibes, and the eakins craw for clearer water and crawling on the bottom. this lets me from getting confused on what jig size, skirt, or color to use. im not in any way a good jig fisherman, this is just what ive used so far and has produced very well for me. my 2 cents. -j
  17. ive used eakins jigs this year almost exclusivley. not that i wont use anything else, its just everywhere i have used it i have had success with it. i dont fish any real weedy areas anyway, so why try to replace somthing that isnt broken?
  18. what do you all use this time of year at night? ive used a buzzbait and baby paca craw with some results. just curious. -j
  19. i thank everyone dearly for all the info. as for colleges university of kentucky(a land grant college) has a wonderful agricultural department, and conservational studies as a subsidary. ive found an undergraduate program in environmental conservation and management. im really looking into that. i dont know what to do as far as getting my masters, but i am extremely entitled to wanting to go for it. thanks for all the insight.ive soaked as much of it in as i possibly can, im just now starting to peice together what i want to do. careful planning and research really do pay off. thanks again! if i have questions, i will pm those who i would like some more info from. -j
  20. with all the action they have, i like em for a slow falling jig, but i like pacas for swimming . fall is usually the time you can work a jig fairly fast and get away with it more than other seasons.
  21. so me being a senior in high school and a job, its hard to find time to go fishing anymore. about the only times to go is at night. the lake i fish, you need someone who lives in the neighborhood to acompany you. so, a buddy of mine who lives there works where i work. we get off at 12, head to waffle house for a bite to eat, and hit the lake at 1:30 in the morning. its late. its cold(about 45 degrees). im in nothing but a hoodie, and my buddy is all bundled up and is to tired to wet a line. for some reason, he calls me crazy. bank fished a little flat area next to some deeper water on a small little 10 acre lake. ended up actually catching a little somthing. a small dink, and the dink in the pic. not bad for 2 hrs of fishing. caught em on a baby paca craw t-rigged(first time using the bait to). everyone tells me to use a baitfish type lure this time of year, but i stick with crawfish imitations and do just fine. just wish i got more time. :'( you can see my buddy sleepin in the background. what a party pooper. ;D
  22. are those eakins jigs? nice! those are my fav. as far as feeling a bite, a lot of times you really wont feel a bass "tapping" it, at least not the bigger ones. when a bigger fish takes a jig, its more of a dead wieght on the end of the line, or you cant even feel the weight of the jig. as soon as you feel a disturbance in the force, hammer it! swings are free! -j
  23. sorry i havnt posted in a while. im looking for anything to do with fish, i dont care how long i have to go to school, and ive been used eatin ramen noodles all my life. ;D i think they are such and interesting group of animals, hence, is why i am a fisherman. i want to know as much as i can about these critters with fins, and i want to make a living of it. thats all i have read on becoming a biologist for the state. pay is really bad, but great benifits... i might just be looking into private agencies. i wont know until i get more info, ive still gat year to figure it all out. thanks all for the info! hence is why i posted this topic! ;D -j
  24. so im a senior and high school, and its that time to look into colleges. im planning on getting my bachelors in biology, a requirement needed in order to become a fisheries biologist, somthing ive been inspiring to do for the last few years. is anyone here is this feild of work? im just curious as to see what you all like about it. i cant think of a better way to try and preserve the water and wildlife we have for future generations too enjoy and charish the fantastic oportunities are so lucky to have. -j
