what structure do you look for, for smallies?
So far you have received some great information. I just got back from my annual smallie/northern/walleye trip to Western Ontario Canada where the smallies were attacking a Zara Spook in the white and blue back colors. Just find chunk rock no larger than a bowling ball and start walking the dog. Sun or time of day did not make any difference. If I did not get a strike on at least every 10 casts I would look and see I was no longer over the chunk rock. I would fish mainly near the bank with worse luck over humps and points.--Go figure?? The smallies would routinely knock the lure 1 foot out of the water and the fish would follow it out. This was the very best smallie fishing I have ever experienced. Good luck with you trip. 8-)

What Do Bass See In Chartruse?
I know Chartruse shows up better in stained water but exactly do bass see when looking at that color. I have heard it shows as a bright white to bass. Does anyone really know?

Barometric pressure....
There have been many diferent ideas on exactly what biological changes occur in the bass but the end result is the same. Bass bury themselves in cover or go to the next deeper edge, or both. Bites get sparse and soft.

marker buoys
One reason we do not see as many bouys as we used to is because the GPS with topo markings are in many boats. These make it soooooo easy to not only fish exact bottom structure it also allows one to mark specific locations on the unit for an exact return. Mine sure has made a huge difference in my success rates.

What is the cost of a keel guard?

Funny Qeustion
They eat everything. In Korea they hate them as they are such predators they will eat the good fish--the carp. Baby bass colored grubs are great baits after the spawn.

YES!!! Permission Granted! Plus a ?
You could probably catch fish on about any type of lure in any color in a situation like that. I have a small lake where I can catch bass until I get tired and quit. Normally I will fish a black/brown jig and trailer for bigger fish and a pearl slug-o for smaller fish. Early mornings, late evenings or overcast days with water temp 70+ it is topwater time. If the surface is choppy go to a buzzbait or prop bait, calm water calls for a popper or Zara Spook walking the dog. Good luck and let us know how it goes. 8-)

NEED INPUT on my first handheld GPS
I have had the ETrex for 3 years now and it has worked well for me. I recently purchased an Eagle 502C which is sonar with GPS built in, also got the Hot Maps topo chip in 1' increments. This is the greatest thing since sliced bread and I still don't have all the features figured out. It will do it all.

Does salt attrack bass???
The same publication also said nicotine scented baits did show less strikes than unscented lures.
-
why do people hate this guy?
I kinda like the guy on TV. Don't kknow much about him in a boat. I wonder if some guys are jelous as the ladies think he it HOT. He seems like a nice enough guy to me.

Does salt attrack bass???
According to Pure Fishing researchers and their book "Pure Fishing" (the Berkley folks), salt, garlic, anise(licorice), and anything with an oil base will not have much affect on strikes and very little on length of lure retention times. It can be a scent masking agent though. The only scent that shows a marked increase in lure retention times was a water based natural scent formula. No scent showed much of an increase for a strike getter. It was interesting to note that soap, DEET, and sunscreen scent stopped the bite for as much as 90min. Gas, oil, and human scent did not show any affect. Sure surprised me.

Bigtex is back
You must be talking about home--not BR. As with all addictions, we want him to stay and will hang on to him as long as possible. Happy casting. WElcome back. 8-)

Re: The best bed fishing technique I know of.
COME ON GUYS - GET OFF DABLUZ' BACK HE IS RIGHT ----SORT OF!!! I fish in Canada every year and he is right!!!!! In Canada there is a short growing season and the lakes are mostly infertle causing bed fishing to have a HUGE impact on the long term sustainability of the (smallmouth) bass species. This is why most of the Canadian Lakes are catch and release or at least have STRICT limits. IT IS NECESSARY AND I ACT ACCORDINGLY!!! On the other hand--- I will be fishing Lake Fork TX in a couple of weeks and FULLY intend to catch as many of the LARGEST bedding mamas and pappas the lake will give up. I will pull a Jimmy Houston and kiss them goodbye as soon as a quick photo can be taken. I will DO MY BEST to have the bass off the bed as SHORT of a time as possible so he/she can resume their spawning duties. Most Southern Lakes CAN AND DO sustain this bed fishing pressure without being detrimental because of the increased fertility of the lake and length of the growing season. Maybe---When in Rome, do as the Romans do???
