First time on Mattawomen
Geez, if you want to fish there, just do it. I've been there and back again on the P'mac in 17' glass boats with absolutely no worries, and I know I'm not the only one. I've seen guys do the run from leesylvania to mattawoman in Trackers. Common sense applies, however, so don't make that run in 20 knot winds.

First time on Mattawomen
That section of the Potomac can be the roughest you will see. A N/NW wind, beginning in Belmont or Occoquan, has anywhere from 4 - 6 miles of open water to blow across before it reaches the mouth of Mattawoman. For fishing grass, what dsaavedra said, and I would add a Zoom horny toad, or the like. Rig it weightless.

Hmmm...now I wonder where you ALL got the idea to pose like Vanilla Ice?

Fountainhead bass Tourney 5.2.2010
Do you mean in NOVA in general, or Fountainhead specifically? If NOVA, that question is too broad for me, but for Fountainhead, these are the txs this thread is speaking of: http://fountainheadbassclub.com/rules/

Love fest at Beaverdam
Ask some of the carp anglers at 4mr, there are alot of them. I met one guy who "chummed" w/ his very own recipe for scented corn, then threw dough balls on treble hooks as bait. That is the limit of my knowledge when it comes to carp fishing. You'll also see some guys targeting carp at 4mr using fly rods, or rods that look like fly rods but have no reels. I have no idea what they throw.

Huntsman
Dan's got it, that is like an albino bass. I drove by there yesterday and it looked muddy, but not muddy enough to turn a bass that shade of white.

Northern Virginia Fishing
Micro, that is the biggest chuckle I've gotten from this board in a long time. Kudos.

I know this is a bit OFF-TOPIC for the BR norm, BUT...
Thanks for the link. I will definitely take a look. However WV fishing isn't a day trip. It's definitely more of a weekend trip. I was looking for somewhere I could drive to in under an hr, nice and early on a Sat morning, and fish til late afternoon. It's a VA guide that has some WV info.

Loudoun County Fishing?
Unregistered, anonymous lurkers are out there, and there are more of them than you think. Last year, I was talking to a kid I sometimes see at a local lake, and he mentioned a nice bass being caught out of the same lake. He said he read about it here on BR, and I realized it was my post. I asked him what his name was on BR. His reply was telling: "I don't post, I just read it to get spots." I don't think I've made any fishing reports on this site since. Your best bet is to use this site to develop a network of local fisher-people.

Anyone been to the Occ Rez Lately (Bull Run)?
The winning bag there this past weekend was over 25, and I'm pretty sure there was at least three more over 20. So, I'd say the fishing is good there right now. Of course, these are teams in boats rather than the shore, and they've been fishing that rez for years.

Where have you been fishing? PM if you want to keep those spots quiet.

Beaver Creek Reservoir
I was wondering why someone from Staunton was asking. To be clear, I was talking about Beaverdam Creek rez in Ashburn, VA. I've got no idea about any water in Crozet.

Beaver Creek Reservoir
The word is that it's still 1/2 frozen as of today.

Viscious flourocarbon?
I've only used the 6 and 8# as a leader in conjunction w/ braided line. No complaints, and I've noticed no issues (break offs, knot strength) relative to other FC's.

Hit a nice one in Richmond ;)
Nice football there.

Abu Silver Max reel
Don't exactly know what you mean by "covers", but begin w/ the sideplate w/ the mag brake. First, unscrew the bar holding this sideplate on, it is located on the handle side, on top of the reel, near the level wind. Next, twist the sideplate counterclockwise maybe a 1/4 turn and it will come off. You can now also take out the spool. The other "cover" which I'm assuming is the handle-side sideplate is removed by first removing the spool tension knob, the handle assembly and fours screws: three on the sideplate and one inside the spool cavity that you have to access via the hole you made by removing the mag brake sideplate.

A bait you hate to use
Rage Tails, love the fish, don't like the hype.

How to find Crawdads?
This was going to be my suggestion. You'll also learn alot more from this book than crawdad behavior, etc. To illustrate the level of Murphy's dedication (obsession?), he also describes how to prepare your very own crawdad garden in your backyard so as to eliminate the need to buy or catch craws for bait.

Elk Lick Run and Breckenridge Reservoir in NOVA
Pretty sure Breckenridge requires a Quantico license unless you want the Marines chasing you.

Well, another NOVA thread
Hey, I asked if you wanted to go... (as I stay up doing the work I should have done ths morning).

Most Kayak Friendly fish finder
The humminbird 565 or 570 are great for the price (higher resolution = better), and you can use them w/ a suction cup transducer. You'd have to work out something for the battery though. The 12V gel cell used for the portable models is compact and relatively light. The portable model itself can be removed fom the satchel it comes in and mounted. I found a slightly used 565 portable on the bay for ~ $100, but had to buy the battery separate, so total it came to ~ $140 (I already had a battery charger, which adds to the list price of the portable sonar packages). Disclaimer: I use this w/ a scanoe, not a kayak. http://store.humminbird.com/products/313973?product_id=7818b356941ba3b7b253de2be0621c66

Maryland's Who's who!
I swear the only thing that's at dscharge in williamsport is rockbass. I caught a couple in january and have been there a couple times this month and I'm getting hits on soft plastics from them and that's it. Can't put my finger on what's changed there but the smallies have seemed to have abandon that place. I tried hitting PEPCO again yesterday. Rode the whole way down there just to find out they never plowed the lane and couldn't get back to the parking lot. It's getting very frustrating!!! We are trying to get up to Dickerson on Thursday the 18th. Any info about the status of this lane would be appreciated. Thanks!

Are swimbaits a joke to throw in NOVA?
120yds of 14lb test? Big swimbaits usually involve ~20lb test so that's not gonna give you a lot of line on 200 size. I would go with at least a 300. It's only .3 oz heavier. Big swimbaits yes, although i have no first hand experience w/ anything over 3 oz. He's talking more along the lines of small to medium. The 200 I use w/ 17# pline holds plenty (prob ~ 100yds) to through the matt lures, both hard and soft. YMMV, IMO, etc.

Are swimbaits a joke to throw in NOVA?
Cardiffs are great for heavier baits. IMO, the 200 also has enough line capacity for what you want to do, so don't rule it out (its also a bit lighter than the 300/400). They can be had used on the bay for ~ 50.
