BR.com challenges Charlie Moore- 6/7 update
Just for the record, it is now June 6th and still no word from ESPN or Charlie Moore. I still have folks emailing me to ask where we stand with this. We stand in the same ignored, frustrated spot. No follow up. No communication, nothing. I emailed them both yet again.

How to catch a bedding female?
She is in a cycle that is changing daily. When the females very first were seen on the beds, and we removed the males, we got the same results. Next day, same thing. Day 3, the male was nowhere to be seen and we BOTH caught the female back to back. First she took my buddies senko and then my jig immediately after she was put back. Now THAT'S a defensive bite! Give her a day or 2 to lock on. Good luck.

Re: Are Big Fish Good to Eat?
no. They are all terrible. The trout that are raised for eating at the market are delicious however, lol

POLL-Berkeley Gulp Ad
Same here. When Berkley power worms came out, I was a pure addict. Then the putty for trout. That was the last time I bought a Berkely product. There are some products under the Pure Fishing umbrella that I use but as for Berkely, I wasn't their customer to lose either so it's doesn't matter.

To keep or throw back.....why the complaints??
I just have more than enough food at home to not have to kill a gamefish. If it were an econiomic thing, then absolutely, feel proud that you put dinneron the table with your bare hands but if it's just a fish dinner you want, trout are like $3.$9/ lb, raised to be eaten and much tastier. I've just seen too many people take fish from the lake to either prove they caught it but take itunder the guise of "I'm going to eat it"...or they think they are going to mount this 8lbr and get home and find out it's only 4 and throw it away,...those are the situations that irk me.

Berkely Gulp Ad
My personal opinion is pretty much the same as Avids but I would be curios to know the opinion of the majority. The Ad industry must have periodical literature, I just don't know where to look. I smell a poll coming.

Berkely Gulp Ad
I wonder if there is any way to go look up if a campaign was successful or not and to what degree. Anyone out there have in depth advertising experience?
-
Berkely Gulp Ad
Clipper-I fully respect your opinion and mean no foul when I say this but every email you send them will re-inforce their assumption that this commercial worked. The ad is designed to generate controversy, the emails are like trophies for the ad agency, solidifying their success.

I don't see the partial nudity as a "sexual attack" on our senses or a "hormone driven" one as much as somthing to make you look twice and continue watching because you just have to see the whole thing because you are pretty sure you will be judging it morally. In short. Advertising. And as Sam said. It worked. The more we type, the more we prove it.

big bass frogs need big bass water, right?
Rolo-Well, you're dead on about the mouth. At ice out when they first move back there, they move in in cycles. You can go in there and get 8 right away and then nothing for 30 mins then all of a sudden, 1,2,3,4,5,6 and then dead again and so on, for as long as the sun is warming that water. When you go to leave the cove, we mark a ton of fish at the mouth but they don't bite. It's like they are out there waiting their turn to go in. Very polite, I must say, lol.

Berkely Gulp Ad
Are you guys saying that you don't fish in the raw? Am I solo on this? I mean, it gets cold come Oct-Nov-Dec but come spring,............Gulp. See the backround? No houses, noone to see,no harm done. I just hate tan lines. *This opinion offered strictly for entertainment and humor purpose. No offence is intended to any. No animals were harmed in the making of this photo.

big bass frogs need big bass water, right?
They are dead in the middle of the spawn. They don't spawn back there, mud bottom.

big bass frogs need big bass water, right?
I've fished the outside edges for yrs. nighttime also Nothing over 3ish. I can pole all the way to the rear (jon boats) old creek channel runs down the right side about 1ft deeper than rest of cove Very choked. Outside is primarily large pad and the further in you go, it transitions to the dollar pads. Algea blooms in there also. I'm just wondering if I should make the effort this summer to pole into the "way back" 2 points- -Tons of food in this entire area. -would oxygen be plentiful (all the vegetation) or lacking due to the shallow stagnentness. I'm gonna need one of those bug net hats, lol.

big bass frogs need big bass water, right?
All our lily pad areas are found on the large coves that are only 1-3 ft deep and do not have any deep water nearby. They have to cross appx a 500 yrd field of coontail before they are out of the coves and near deeper water. These coves are a key place at ice out as they are the first to have drastically warmer water than anyplace else on the lake. Now once the game gets rolling and the temps promote all the new growth, those coves get choked right off. As the water lowers thru the summer, they have as liitle as 6" of water in the back and 2-3 ft in the front. Will big bass venture from deeper water to go in there and feed? I have big bass hopes with these frog baits but the only "muck" to fish them in shouldn't hold the larger class fish in warm water months. (illust below)

Big Bass I can see, but won't bite
Sounds like she is spawning. These fish are catchable but it takes having a few different tactics, lots of time, and even more patience. Give her a couple days, keep at her. When she drops her eggs, she's gonna wanna fill that belly back up. The smaller fish was probably the male. One tactic is to catch and "hold" the male (livewell preffered). This leaves the nest vulnerable (male is the main nest protector) and the female will take over on guard duty. Now she is much more catchable. Good luck, hope this helped

Exactly,..it's like you look up at the sky with your palms up and say "What did I do?"

Newbie Question
You can also "dead stick" a suspending jerk or crank. Like a husky jerk. Cast it out, get it to it's optimum depth, and leave it there. Takes lots of patience but can be great fun. The hits almost come out of nowhere and jolt you back to reality, lol.
