Texas or wacky ??
As Glenn always says, things get lost in the online translation. I read back and think I came off wrong, lol. Redtail and I aren't like that in the boat. All good times and mini adventures. More so the reason behind me saying that. It is a very Fair venue because it's not me against him ,it's *** vs. Gary (on Gary's home lake. *** has somthing to prove) That's what I meant (I have too many yrs behind me to talk smack. I learned my Karma lesson young, lol) Ainttex- My lake is primarily coontail, rock, asst gravel and mud bottom. Some stand ups but not many. I may grab weeds 5 times in an outting and nothing major. I suppose there are lakes that a wacky rig may be too much of a hassle but I havn't fished one yet. Even Fork. No fish but no weeds either, lol! For me it's the "vertical" fall that I think works best. Both tips quivering. I will use t-rig on a senko if there are stubborn fish under the pad edges because of it's "slider" type fall but only if I'm out of fat ikas.

Texas or wacky ??
[move]WACKY WACKY WACKY[/move] When you wacky rig a senko, both ends shake Much better hook up ratio, hook is exposed Hook is exposed, more vulnerable to snag Redtail- Looking good. Be prepared to stand by your words I think this may be a good venue for an *** ($.o5ea) vs. a GYBC ($.70ea) showdown. I've never even seen a picture of your lake, that should make it more than fair.

Foam Floatation... is it really needed?
In my old saltwater boat, we moved the center console 6' to the stern for a tuna fishing set up. When we did, I had also decided this would be a good time to re-deck the whole thing with 1". This was a great decision as when we removed the deck, about 1/2 way back we found a broken rib. Needless to say, we removed every inch of foam from the hull of a 21 ft boat with shovels, knives, you name it. A. God awful smell B. stuff makes you itch C. Just plain nasty work. Anyway, when it came time to refill the hull with foam, I brought in a guy from a local Marina here in RI to do it on the side after work. Ben is sooo right. It is amazing to see how an expanding foam can be so strong. You would think,ok, it needs somewhere to go but when it's full it will stop expanding. NOPE! I guarentee if I had tried to foam the hull myself, I would have blown my boat to pieces. Literally.

POLL-Berkeley Gulp Ad
And THAT'S the long and short of it! That e-tec commercial. Call me too liberal but my nieces saw that and asked me "Uncle Russ ,did you see that commercial of the guy in the boat...." and we all laughed. They are 16 and 13. I think even my mom would laugh at that one. I don't see these as "sex-based" commercials because of the partial nudity. I don't think the marketing arrow is aimed there like a Bacardi commercial or a car commercial but is aimed more at the humor of human nature to be embarresed when naked in public. Just my .02. which I already gave so I guess that makes it .04. Call it a nickel.

How far to fish?
Yea, I'm exactly 1 hr from driveway to floating. Fishing every day is costing me roughly $70/wk in fuel alone. Not bad compared to some though. It costs Hawg_Hunter $100 every time he goes. He drives 2 hrs in a suburban towing a boat. Ouch

Outboard for 1236 Jon boat
10 hp is fine for a 1236. I persoNAlly wouldn't go much higher. It may be rated for a 15 but these aren't the most torsionally rigid boats. Got a pic? THIS is a post about the refab job I did on my 1964 1242. Good luck with her.

Polarized glasses the same?
There are no levels of polarization. When youpay more for a pair of shades, youare paying for a better optical quality lens, frame and customer service. The polarization process is the same for a $10 pair or a $200 pair. The lens color plays a big part in how well you can see in the water. Matching the right lens for the current condition is key. If your amber lens could see better than his, I would bet money that his was grey and it was sunny. I use Amber grey amber/blue mirror grey/blue mirror Amber/orange mirror All are calcutta glasses, $25 avg

do you ever loose the passion?
One way around the pervert thing is to offer to take a kid and parent. Ryans mom came with us fishing when we first met. Now she has no problem with it, she even got me a nice BPS visor to say "thanks" for taking Ryan out a bunch of times onhis vacation. So aside from Senko77, I won't take a youth, boy or girl, ANYWHERE alone. If you think about it, you can also teach the guardian how to take the youth fishing. Show him/her the things they will need to know as the person taking the youth (hook removal, knots, etc) so they can also take their son/daughter when you aren't around. You'll probably make some great friends, young and old, just choose your time to approach carefully. If you are looking for partners where this stuff is not a worry, try a vet's hospital. These guys are sooo appreciative of everything. Many are quite capable of being on the water with you and would mean the world to them to get out of there for 1/2 a day. I PROMISE, you won't regret it. If you are nervous about letting folks use your pricey gear, I will gladly donate a BPS extreme for you to let them use. Not saying you are funny like that but I have the extra gear if you have the desire and I would love to help 2 friends at once.

How Many Fish Do You Lose Each Trip?
smaller than the one you are missing hits on. If it's an 8, try a 6. If it's a 6, try a 4. or a tube or an Ika ,etc

How Many Fish Do You Lose Each Trip?
Dude, you need to pay more attention to where you leave them
-
Out on the water.. now what?
You basically want to fish anywhere that the shore anglers can't for starters.

do you ever loose the passion?
That's the benefit of New England, nothing gets old except the people and the buildings. We have 4 seasons, every one drastically different. The cabin fever in the winter creates such a drive and passion each year that I do wonder if I would "tire" of it for periods if not for the layover. The passion doesn't leave. It will always be there,it's who you are but maybe the need to express it can come to be outweighed by the hassle some days of the aches and pains and troubles it takes to launch the boat, etc, etc. My passion also mutates. From freshwater to salt to fly fishing, all different aspects and angles. Perhaps you could participate in somthing fishing related as opposed to direct time on the water. Maybe start building rods or making tackle for a hobby. Now your outtings aren't just fishing trips but somthing new,...R & D trips. You may find a new excitement. Or perhaps you could go on a mission. Start a CAST for kids event. or Just take someone new fishing with you. This is my latest mutation. Dirk can't fish as much anymore, family and all, so I have been taking all kinds of new people right down to the people I meet here. Anyone wanna fish with Avid? I know I would if I were more south. Trust me, it wouldn't be the same as when you go alone,...I PROMISE! Mix it up, who knows..... Yersterday I took a UPS buddy who is shipping off to Iraq soon. Much more rewarding day giving him a thank you gift before he goes than if I went alone.

where are the bass at what time of the day?
That's the kind of place I would hit in the off hours. Night time is the right time. I firmly believe that bass in high traffic lakes tend to be more active at night when the lake isn't getting assaulted.

Bass tags and monitering
Numbered t-bar anchor tags run from $50-$70 for 100 tags. The tagging guns are about $25. Like these http://www.forestry-suppliers.com/cat_pdf/326_C57.pdf

fishing a power plant lake questions
National Grid has a large plant on the Providence river. The warm water output pipe disperses water at 66 degrees. This is enough to hold stripers there over the winter. May I remind you, it gets cold enough here for salt water to freeze a couple times a yr. The stripers are the smaller class schoolies and can be caught fishing the rip from the output with small bucktails. I'm not sure if there is a scientific reason that they don't migrate back to the Chesapeake with the rest of them when winter comes but I'm glad they don't!

Who else is on "injured reserve?"
Ken- I had a double ear infection couple yrs back. Started off with vertigo but by the end of the day I couldn't walk 4 or 5 steps without falling over. Not to metion the lethargy that accompanies it. It's like you are "literally" too tired to lift your arms. YUK. Certainly alot less fun than the "vertigo" I used to experience in college! lol.

Who else is on "injured reserve?"
Nope, just the members video,lol

Who else is on "injured reserve?"
I wouldn't want to oar around the 300 acre place I fish but I think that's a great way to get excercise. THe biggest thing the doctors preach as we age is to stay active. The amount of physical exertion you put into your fishing and the amount of it you do, probably far outweight he physical contribution of someone 1/2 your ages daily routine. That's also probably why you're such a good dancer too, lol.

Alewives
You're gonna laugh but get a 1/2 0z bucktail jig(wht) and put a 3" shad body on it.
