I hope you know the difference between the West Coast Model and the South East model. The West coast rods are what we use for Tuna, but thats pushing it.

Just a question
I'll start by saying i'm gonna get hammered for asking this but want opinions... I have never bought a reel over 160 bucks, or a rod over 100 bucks (except for salt water). All my reels have braid on them. I T-rig 90% of the time cause i love to fish with plastics. With most of us on here using braid, does this change the way you look at purchasing a new rod? I mean using braid compared to mono, it seems l feel more bites, (atleast i think i have) just using my medium of the road Rods. I guess my question is has braid changed your thinking on how much you spend on a rod?

mountain bike?
My rear suspension locks out, meaning i can pull a little lever and make it into a hardtail. I would change that order if it were me.. 1. drive train 2. suspension 3. brakes Cheaper to upgrade your brakes to disc, then upgrade suspension. But for 400 buck, i doubt you will get disc anyway. The old style brakes are fine unless you plan on racing.

Cheater at the US Open
Guys We do not have the option of pressing charges, etc. It is up to the state of federal goverment to prosecute a criminal case and it is the state versus whover is charged in a criminal case. All we can do is cooperate or not, but we have no say in whether a case is prosecuted. This is not different than any other criminal case. The Nevada Wildlife department was involved with the initial sting operation in the matter, so obviously we have been more than willing to cooperate with them and any other legal authority involved. But we do not get to "press charges" as some are suggesting. We were told at that time, and again since, to not discuss the case in public, other than to report the facts in our own publication. The more facts are discussed and things get report incorrectly, the more it would hurt any case they might choose to pursue, as an attorney would point to these contradictions when evidence is introduced. I do think we did a good job in catching a cheater in the US OPEN, and in doing so in a way that mazimized the evidence we had against him and eliminated any controvery and debate in that regard. It obviously is a story getting a lot of press, and hopefully it helps to improve the sport in the long haul. Our focus at the US OPEN though was not to catch a cheater , as we had hundreds of great and honest anglers battling it out in an amazing battle under the most brutal conditions you can imagine. It was an incredible tournament, a unforgetable Tribute to the Legends dinner program, following a great Icast show. That is what we would like for peope to remember about this years US OPEN, and many will for sure. From another forum...

Experimenting With Braided Line
That's pretty interesting cause i follow the local saltwater stuff here on the west coast and it is rare that we do it that way.

Experimenting With Braided Line
I went to the heavier leader a number of years ago because I have better chance of not breaking the leader on a snag and losing my lure. Also some of my target species have gill plates as sharp as a razor blade, wise to use a heavier leader. I would definitely use a 100# leader on 50# braid, if I were fishing for big grouper or another hefty pelagic species, tied with a bimini knot Everyone should just do what they are comfortable with Wow Sirsnook, your in good company with your reasons. I have only heard of two other anglers who use lighter main line than leader. One is named wahoodaddy(dont know his real name, he is like Catt on this website),and Tony Pena(yes the knot). Wahoodaddy say's he does it cause the pressure when fighting big fish is more at the hook then anywhere else?

Carbontex Drag Study
Yellowtail.. I know you have an Avet,Read this from Avets point of view on greased drags, and read what other fisherman say on the subject...Interesting http://www.bloodydecks.com/forums/avet-reels-support/104954-grease-not-grease.html

Carbontex Drag Study
You are 100% correct Sirsnook...I think we are saying the same thing.I just want the extra drag if i do need it. Just incase that yellow hits . But if yellows are in the area, i would go to my Avet SX.

Carbontex Drag Study
Sir Snook, I dont get what your saying, I guess it's an East coast, west coast thing? I can catch all three B's with my HSTA out here on the west coast. And dont Grease your drag on the Avet, it voids your warranty. Here is a link to my reel (only his is left handed),done by the most saught after salt water reel mechanic. Alan is the one pushing the greased carbontex drags.Read his post's and look at the reel tear downs.. http://alantani.com/index.php?PHPSESSID=j079khn11ao2u2l9sdiccmdhn0&topic=884.0

Carbontex Drag Study
The most I use is 15 pound test on that reel..It's for the three B's..Bass, Barracuda, and Bonita..

Carbontex Drag Study
Sorry, was out of town. This was the first reel I have changed the drags on.The HSTA is already a wet drag system.I use this reel in salt,so the million dollar question is that,by putting drag grease on reels that are used for salt water apps. is that if salt water gets inside the reel the salt water won't build up on the drag washers, just beed off? Hope you can understand what I'm trying to say. This has been an argument of salt water reel Mechanics for years, I decided to go with grease. The greased drag's in my opinion thus far is a smoother start up...

Problem with baitcaster reel
Sounds like the anti reverse bearing to me....

Carbontex Drag Study
I just replaced my drags on one reel with carbontex washers.I have two Diawa Hsta's.I buttoned both down and took a drag sample on my spring scale.. Before replacing the drags my oldest ( and most used, even in Salt) got an average of 8.1.My newest reel ( used only twice )got 8.4. I then replaced the drag washer's with Carbontex, from smoothdrag on my oldest reel, greased with Cals drag grease and i could get 10 pounds of drag consistantly. So thats a gain on the old reel of1.9 pounds of drag. The biggest difference is the way the drag starts off smooth with no jumps. That is what i was looking for for fishing in the salt.. I just posted this in case it helps anybody who wanted to upgrade their drags to carbontex. Before I did this i looked all over for real world findings but couldn't find any...

How many of you have had your reels super tuned?
Yes I have done two Diawa Hsta's, two BPS Extremes, and two pinnacles. I did all the reels short of replacing bearings and drag washers (will do the drag washers in a week or so,on order for one Hsta).Out of all the reels the Extreme's had the best response. The Extremes came out smoother and cast better, with less effort.
