  1. I must be doing something wrong. I have two rods rated down to 1/8 - 1\2. My super tuned 50e cant throw 1\8 on them. but it does throw 1\4 ounce total weight pretty good.
  2. I love these responses, under 200, but add another 100bucks on a spool. while your at it, add a longer handle too.
  3. Are you oiling the spool bearings after almost every outing? You might be over lubricating, not letting the spool bearings to run free.
  4. I agree, but I will not use a LP Baitcaster as a live bait rig and I have a 300e and a Komodo 350. When a yellowtail hits with live bait and your in free spool, good luck putting the reel in gear.
  5. Buddha, I inshore fish here in SoCal also. I think your actually good as far as the calico bass is concerned. Use the 201 and 10# test for the bass. If your using live bait, remember to stop the spool, and set the hook with your thumb. LP baitcasters are not made to be slammed in gear when fish are pulling line in free spool. The Lexa is a good Medium between the two. I've never used one but I'm sure its like my 300e. I would fill it with 40# braid and 17# or 20# short leaders for local yellows. Since you fish from a Yac, a spinning reel makes sense, but if you also go out on cattle boats it wont make sense as a double duty. I'd recommend an Avet SXJ so you can use it on both species and both Yac and cattle boat. I actually caught yellow fin and blue fin locally on the SXJ with no problems. Good Luck!
  6. Wipe off brake race with a Q tip. Put a Q tip down the pinion gear to make sure there's no grease inside, and wipe off spool shaft...Good to go! I learned to do those first the hard way on many brand new reels that were inconsistent first time out.
  7. I have two sets of Smooth Drag abec5 hybrid's in two my concept reels. I soaked them in TSI 321, it quieted them down, but didn't seem to take away the performance at all. It's only been a few hours on the water testing so far. The abec7 SS from BGF (which I think are Bocas bundled in a kit), are really performing better with the 321 in my Curado's and Okuma's .Hope I'm not just drinking the cool aid, but 321 seems to be the real deal so far.
  8. A little TLC and TSI = 200E7 casting machine in my opinion.
  9. Different colors for different lakes even tho they are crystal clear. Margarita Mutilator (MM111) works in one, and Bold Bluegill works in the other. Aarons magic for stained water has worked for me, among many other brands and colors. Rage tail
  10. I used Stren high impact in 1/4 pound spools for main line and leaders with no problems when I first started bass fishing. My walmart still sells it.
  11. I personally leave it loose and feather the spool with my thumb accordingly.
  12. Yep, I think winter is here like never before. Snowed at my house here in Murrieta.
  13. A forgiving rod (parabolic), and your drag correctly adjusted, braid works for me.
  14. I would use the bantam oil in frame bearings and Alchemy oil in spool bearings. You can use either oil in any bearing tho.
  15. Happy I started using the fat ika too. Better late than never!
  16. In another post you said Sniper is the best? Shouldn't you already know about stretch and sensitivity?
  17. That's my 40# live bait rig.
  18. My quit smoking/Christmas present.
  19. Merry Christmas DVT!! Thank you for all the advise you've given to us members through out the years!!
  20. Nice catch! Now you go and beat your brothers best!
  21. I proved that on the Clemente this year. I caught 4, nobody else caught more than 1. On long soaks, braid makes a huge difference.
  22. I Like braid leader. On a long cast with a half ounce trap, I feel I have more control. Even copoly seems to stretchy to me on a long cast. I leave the drag just loose enough so it doesn't slip when I rip it from the grass.
