  1. Is it true that fishing with a crankbait like a DD22 on a reel can wear out the gears? I have heard this, but I doubt it.
  2. I like them the most when I find them on the ground and they are all black. For some reason though, the newly ripe ones I picked yesterday tasted great.
  3. 15 to 40 feet of water on jigging spoons, Drop shots, football jigs, and flutter spoons.
  4. I picked a couple today, they were the best I ever had. The flesh was butter colored unlike all of the other Pawpaws i have eaten before.
  5. You need to grow/find your own. Not many people know about them, and they transport terribly, so there is no market for them. There should definitely be some ripe ones on Saturday. Only some are ripe right now, and they are just barely ripe. Some of the best Pawpaws are almost black and really squishy, so even in late September, you may find an edible Pawpaw, though I doubt it. I do know of some specific groves with lots of fruit if you need help finding some.
  6. Good luck, the Pawpaws will almost all be gone in about two weeks, so it's best to get out as quick as you can.
  7. Dan, They taste like Banana and cantaloupe mixed in Vanilla custard. I prefer to eat them raw. Just don't eat the seeds or skin, you will not feel too good if you do. Brad, They grow everywhere in the Potomac valley, mainly from Piscataway on up. You will know when you have found a Pawpaw tree because if you crush one of it's leaves, it will smell like kerosene. Pawpaws grow in groves and maybe 1 in 100 trees hold fruit. You will find fruit where 2 groves meet.
  8. http://www.crfg.org/pubs/ff/pawpaw.html If you have fished the Potomac, I can guarantee that you have seen a Pawpaw tree.

Does anyone here grow or pick Pawpaws? The Pawpaws have just ripened around here so I am going to go pick some. I have some Pawpaw trees in my yard that should have fruit in a year or two.
  10. On my favorite lake, I was motoring around and on my depthfinder, I saw a pyramid shape made of arches in about 20 feet of water. What do you think this would be? Every now and then I also see columns made of arches. I have never been able to motor over one of these spots and see the formation after passing over it twice. In this lake, we have Largemouth, Smallmouth, White Perch, some Walleyes, Crappie, and Sunfish.
  11. Maybe they feed more at night. I don't know though, I have never seem them being aggressive, they seem very shy. Did you see them in June, were they just gulping air?
  12. Well, I have always wondered why no one ever talks about fishing jigging spoons on here, they are one of the most deadly lures in existence for deep suspended bass. But I was wondering, what jigging spoons do you guys use? I just buy spoon blanks from Netcraft and add hooks and split rings.
  13. Seriously? I hope you mean docile to humans cause they are wreaking havok on the ecosystem. They're extremely aggressive fish, if you've ever felt one slam a top water lure you'd know... They seem very docile, they feed rarely and are very picky. They are also very scared of humans. Why are they wreaking havoc on the ecosystem? I have noticed no changes since the Snakeheads were introduced.
  14. They are awesome to eat, fried Snakehead is my favorite food.
  15. It's drama, they are probablly the most docile fish in the Potomac.
  16. the BMF hook was NOT available all this spring and early summer. The paycheck Hooks aren't out yet. True, the BMF hooks were not available this spring, but the Paycheck Hooks have been available for a while. I'm sorry though, I didn't mean to sound rude when I said that there was a problem with the hook, it's just that that is the only thing I don't like about the hook. If you like it, then use it. I don't know how much of a difference the hook kicking up makes, but it just gives me confidence
  17. The Gamakatsu Octopus is a good hook, but why it, when you can buy the Punch Hook which is better?
  18. I have tried it, and it does work, but it's not the best in the heavy grass I fish.
  19. The problem with that hook is that the hook doesn't kick up when it is snelled.
  20. It also has to do with lip width.
  21. Smallmouth seem to really like pink.
  22. Kevin Short.
  23. Thanks, we have some big 1 pound plus White Perch in my favorite lake. They are just like Bar fish, so the bass must like them.
  24. The White Perch are worse though.
  25. Does anyone here know if bass eat White Perch? I would think that they would, but White perch can lock their fins in place, and they are very spiney. Also, they can lock their gills out and flare them and poke you. I would think that bass could swallow them by the head, but I am wondering whether they avoid White Perch and choose to eat forage like Shad.
