Does anyone here shad fish in the rivers when it's spring time?

Say I were to get Do-It's Weedless Football Jig mold. Could I use an extra wide gap hook while pouring the jig heads rather than the round bend hook they suggest using? Would I need to modify the mold?

Which type of hooks do you guys refer for 1/2 to 1 ounce football jigs, extra wide gap, or round bend? I have been tying on jigheads with extra widegap Gamakatsu hooks, and I rarely have fish rip off of or throw the jig. With the old jigheads I tied on that had a round bend hook, fish would throw the jig more. The only problem is that the company that makes the jigheads has terrible quality control, many times the weedguards will fall out, the jigheads, will be partially painted, or the hooks will be crooked. The thing is, I can't find the hook I would need for these jigs, and I can't find a mold that would accept them. Do you guys also seem to find that fish throw heavy football jigs with round bend hooks more than they do heavy football jigs with extra wide gap hooks?

I got the package today. I'm giving some of the stuff to some friends and keeping some for my self. And also, I will probably be doing the volunteering sometime this year. Is it ok if I do something like volunteer at a children's center?

I took off the side plate and took out the spool. Then I washed everything off. I didn't take the reel fully apart though.

Do you guys think one of my Daiwa Zillions will be ok after being dunked in the Potomac near Gravelly Point for about 10 seconds? It's a long story about how this happened, but but basically, a dock employee accidentally flipped me and my dads boat while we were in it. Does anyone know how salty the river water is near Gravelly Point

Most of my fishing is done in water deeper than 10 feet In some lakes around the area. I don't fish the lower Potomac too much anymore.

Yep, Spro frog with a 7 foot 6 Heavy Daiwa Zillion Flipping Stick with a 7.3:1 gear ratio Daiwa Zillion Reel. I brought along my Zillion that is spooled with mono though because I was mainly going to throw a spinnerbait and shallow cranbait that day. I don't like bringing 2 rods and reels when my dad can't drop me off and I have the day off. It's a long walk from my house. When I bring my boat out though, I will bring a reel with braid, one with Mono, and one with fluorocarbon(and more).

Well, I think I have a pattern now. Lately though, I havent been able to fully get a hook into a Snakeheads jaw. They have very hard mouths. I have seen them strike and had them on for second and then, they are off. It happened with the last two that I almost caught.

Nice, those Snakeheads do seem do be hard to get a hook into. I have located a couple that i'm going to try to catch on Friday and Saturday. How did that one fight? With the ones I have caught, I have been so excited, I didn't pay too much attention to the fight.

I love my Zillion flipping stick. I haven't been paying attention to my other rods lately, this thing is awesome. It is the most powerful rod I have ever owned. I use it for football jigs, big worms, big spoons, flipping, frogging, and swimbaits

It's just reel oil with no label. And I was wondering about this oil specifically. i don't want to put a bad oil into my reel and have it compromise it's performance. I do have some Daiwa oil coming in, but it is on back order.

Will the oil my dad got with his Revo STX work on the worm gear of one of my Zillions? Is it a good oil for that purpose?

When you stroke your big spoon and see the line tick, or when you feel like you are going through molasses on the upstroke. I also like a football jig strike of any kind.

I caught a giant catfish on a Strike King Sexy Spoon. It was really weird.

I just decided to wait. Since I ran out of oil I need to order some from Daiwa.

I put the wrong oil on my zillion's worm gear, so I had to clean the wormgear out and get rid of most of the oil. There is still a tiny bit left. Do you think I could use the reel for a day with an un oiled worm gear? Would It cause any permanent damage to the reel?

8 to 12 pound fluorocarbon.

Though that would probablly take a long time, right?
