  2. Im looking for some info too. Ill be there next wednesday-Saturday.
  3. I use a 6'9" MHF Vendetta for all my spinnerbaiting needs and I love it!
  4. The most common mistake that people make when using braid is using too heavy of a rod. Flipping a Dobyns 735 with 20 floro is great, but with braid, you feel the fish sooner and the fish feels you sooner. You need a rod that will give you that extra second to set the hook before the fish drops the bait. I always go down a power when using braid. A Dobyn 734 is much better. In other words, use a MH instead of a Heavy rod. Also, you may find that you like more of a moderate action or mod. fast instead of fast or ex. fast. Once again, that will help to cushion against the no stretch of braid. As far as brand, IMO Suffix is far superior to Power Pro and Spider Wire. The Suffix Performance Braid is great and the new Suffix 832 is holding up well so far too. Green is the way to go as far as color. It aslo depends on what you are going to be doing with this rod. If it is for T-Rigs and Jigs, then refer to my earlier statements, but for a frog, I do like a Heavy rod.
  5. Im gonna have to say stick to either a Powell or Dobyns. There arent any better rods out there in their price range. The Dobyns 735 would fit you well or the Powell 704C. The 704C is one of the most versital rods there is IMO.
  6. Yes that battery will serve you well. Should last for long days on the water. Just make sure that you charge it as soon as you get home and occasionally check the water level.
  7. Buy a 7' MHF Vendetta and use it for plastics and other bottom bouncing baits and then come back and tell me if they make a diffence... Heres a hint...they do!
  8. Southern Boyz Bass Club out of Deville
  9. Get an Everstart Maxx Marine Deep Cyle battery at Walmart for $79...its the best bang for the buck. Or if you are looking for a superb battery, look at the Big Momma battery at Baterry Warehouse. I have one and will buy another once my other Everstart goes bad. I think I paid $100 for it. You can measure a deep cycle battery two ways. By Amp Hours or by Reserve Capacity. The higher these numbers are, the longer they will run you TM.
  10. Sounds like to me you need a rod...a Vendetta would fit you perfectly in that range!
  11. Possibly a chrome Ratl-Trap?
  12. Lowes has grass and I know two weeks ago it had a TON of fish on beds. Those fish are still there, they have just backed out a little on points and the first break line. I know the Top Six two weeks ago was won around Bug Island on C-Rigs, so I will be checking a few main lake structures as well. Good luck to yall! What club are you fishing with?
  13. Good report Shannon...glad to see yall caught some fish and some big uns' at that!! I wont be able to get back to Toledo until Thursday, April 28th. I got a tourny on Cotile this weekend (not looking forward to it), then Ill be a Fork the 13th-16th, then a weekend home with the wife (so she will continue to let me fish lol) then finally back on the Bend. Im hopin the topwater bite is good then, cuz I love to catch em on toads and Chug Bugs! Skeet22, I went to Negreet a few weeks ago and didnt do anything. I couldnt find grass and you know if it aint grass it aint bass. Ill be down around Six Mile Thursday the 28th and probably North somewhere the 29th. Good luck to yall in the Best 6. I hope yall come in 2nd (haha)!
  14. Its like P-Line CXX but without the memory...and make sure you get clear, the green is like a lime green color
  15. Wtml/Red, Black Blue, Candy Craw, Green Pumpkin
  16. Yea, Im fishing the best six in a few weeks and that is the pattern Im going to be banking on.
  17. I agree with experience, but also patience has to be added. The guy in our club that whoops our butts knows the waters better than everyone else, knows the fish are there, and throws a jig and lets it sit forever. It drives me crazy!
  18. Ok so I know the odds are against me on this one, but has anyone ever fished Black River Lake in Monterey, LA. I have only fished it once and I will be going back in early May and I could use some help. Last time that place was TOUGH!!
  19. Sorry, Im not Catt, and not nearly as knowledgabel as he is, but I like to find water about 4-8 ft. deep with grass. Normally right after the spawn, the shad spawn starts and they will be moving up into 4-8 ft. with grass to spawn. Ripping traps can be very effective as will wacky wormin and lightly weighted T-Rigs and C-Rigs. Also, dont forget to throw a frog over mats and chug bugs over points early.
  20. Very Cool...I once had a porpoise eat a speckled trout I had hooked...that darn thing then spooled me so quick I didnt stand a chance!
  21. Zoom Ol' Monster (Junebug, Blue Sapphire) Berkley 10" Power Worm (Black and Blue) LFT Hyper Worm (Black and Blue or Junebug)
  22. Also, dont overlook a crankbait, you would be suprised how easily a crank comes through pads. Get a sunperch colored sqaurebill and chunk it in the pads and hold on. Not many people do this, so the fish havent seen many of em there. Also, a LFT Live Magic Shad rigged on an Owner Twistlock hook swam through the pads can be deadly!
  23. Walmart Everstart Marine batteries are good... Also, if you can find a Big Momma battery, they are good. I have had mine for years and it is still holding up like new!
