  2. ive own a FI, have had a FJ and know that the FK is only better. great reel for the money. i think the lighter weight of ci4 reels could actually make some rods tip heavy depending on how you hold the rod. i noticed in your posts that you like the smaller 1000 reels. i think either you use shorter and/or lighter rods or you hold the rod like i do with fingers north of the reel seat. if you do, the ci4+ will be dangerous. it brought several of my spinning rods off of the bench.
  3. ive had many aluminum stradics but after fishing with ci4s and then the ci4+ i cant go back to aluminum on anything but a Heavy powered rod. i like Ci4+2500 for most applications. the JDM 2000 size for short/light rods. you cant go wrong with either the FK or Ci4+ as far as performance IMO
  4. Do you not throw lipless cranks or do you not have a dedicated rod? The two i listed are used for quite a few other things. I'm curious if you do not like the baits. -Z
  5. You will have to forgive me, i tried to find a diagram of a reel seat to have a bit of vocabulary but was unsuccessful. Its a short foregrip that screws onto the reel seat threads (is that even called foregrip?) so it would have to be replaced. The part could unscrew and slide off the rod if some of the guides were not there. i dont mind cutting it off but i assume i would have to remove several guides to add a new foregrip regardless. I guess i could have saved everyone some time if i had asked "how much does it cost to remove and replace guides" because although a full cork rear grip would be nice, i can keep what i have. I think DVT got me covered on pricing. Im going to do a little research to see what foregrip fits my Fuji threads and then contact one of you guys with pictures. I really love this rod so im willing to spend a bit of money on it. Thanks! -Z
  6. thanks guys, estimates sound reasonable. im going to find out what will work on my rod and get back. not going to build from scratch as I am in love with this rod! max lure rating is 2oz and the thing feels like a well balanced MH. but that d**n foregrip.... thanks again, -Z
  7. i use and like lucky craft lv 500 spro aruku shad jackall tn rat l trap sk red eye shad
  8. I usually fish it over grass or slow roll it on the bottom. ive been liking Picasso blades with keitech fats - not that you asked
  9. i didnt know knob bearings counted for # of bearings in a reel but ive never really looked at bearing counts anyway. The Curado 70 only has one bearing per knob if that helps it look any better as far as bearing count inside reel. i replace the knob with a larger met 13 knob and add a bearing and washer.
  10. Megabass XX Flatside Special or Megabass XX Diablo Spec R Metanium 13 XG, 10-12# Sniper FC Metanium MGL HG, 12-15# Sniper FC Edit: For central FL im thinking lots of grass? Id take a MHish rod. Probably a fast. Def not a true moderate.

  12. unless they are out of 1000 size for some reason they should have it. The drop down doesnt work with the MGL or Stradic ci4+ on the parts shop. I know the 2500 spool is in stock. At least it was this morning. For parts that are not ready for purchasing online go to the main site and look up the parts list there before you call. Heres the 1000 (RD17775 is correct) http://fish.shimano.com/media/fishing/shimano/sac/images/schematics/Spinning/Current/Stradic_Ci4_FB/16STCI41HGFB_v1_m56577569831026040.pdf BTW that link you posted is the old version. the new one should be here but the drop down is not working yet. https://fishshop.shimano.com/vip/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT<>prd_id=845524441860538
  13. didnt you just tell someone to buy a $200 combo and spend $600 on jigs? Spyman42 - Get the Met MGL. Less than $300 shipped: https://www.digitaka.com/list.php?category=14&series=CASTING REEL&item=METANIUM+MGL
  14. They have the parts for the new Stradic Ci4+. Im not sure why they told you they didnt, they usually have it as soon as it comes out. Go to the link below and click the blue tabs on the right side of the product specs for your reel. Find the part numbers you need and call 1-877-577-0600. The spool for the 2500 is RD17665 and they have them in stock. about $45. http://fish.shimano.com/content/sac-fish/en/home/products/fishing-reels/spinning/stradic-ci4plus.html Gary at the Tackle Trap is great. I ordered a MET MGL spool from him for the same price as Shimano is selling for. He included an O-ring that is needed that has to be ordered separately if from Shimano USA (50 cent part).

  16. awesome budget! my jig and worm rods are my most sensitive rods. NRX 893 (don't pay more than $400!) and a JDM Metanium MGL ($300) would be my recommendation for 3/8oz jigs and under. For a cheaper reel, the Scorpion 70 ($175) is nice for pitching jigs and palms like a dream. for a stiffer tip and the ability to fish 1/2oz jigs check out the NRX 873. other sensitive rods to check out: 2016 GLX 893 Megabass XX Extreme Mission Type F
  17. what is your price range for both reel and rod? I typically like a MH for most jig fishing (1/4-3/8oz + plastic), H for pitching into heavy cover. F or XF tip. jig and plastics rods are they ones I want to be the most sensitive in my collection.
  18. thinking about a dedicated frog rod and a dropshot rod. might hold off until later in the year after ive read reviews on some new rods that are hitting the market in the next few months.
  19. The XX Diablo Spec R would be great for larger moving baits. For jigs and plastics id take a hard look at the NRX 893c. I'd save the deep crank rod for later unless you plan on deep cranking often. To me that is a very technique specific setup. I hear the Loomis GLX 845 CBR is an excellent choice.
  20. For the reels that arent in the Shimano store (and the MET MGL which will not open) you have to go to their main site, open the PDF diagram below (blue tabs on right side of page), write down the part numbers you need and call them. BTW, i do not see individual part numbers for the brake shoes. 1-877-577-0600 http://fish.shimano.com/content/sac-fish/en/home/products/fishing-reels/baitcast/curado-70.html
  21. I like a longer rod that does not have a soft tip for dragging c-rigs and football jigs. What price range are you looking at? Are you using FC as the main line?
  22. for me its 8.x:1 for jigs, plastics, buzzbaits, lipless 7.x:1 for everything else except deep cranks
  23. wow, that's crazy. he really needs to practice.
  24. adding weight to the reel will change the feel of the rod. in my example above, using the heavier reel makes the rod a LITTLE bit less tip heavy in hand. not an efficient way to balance a rod but it does change the feel just a bit. test it out when you get a chance. if the reel (fulcrum) was exactly at the balance point, adding weight to the reel would not affect balance.
  25. not sure I understand what you are saying. in my picture, adding 15g (+braid) to the reel moves the balance point over slightly. If I were to add the 15g to the butt of the rod instead of to the reel, the balance point would be closer to the reel and the rod feels less tip heavy.
