Spinnerbait/Chatterbait box
i cut notches in a 3600 type box. i have 8 spinnerbaits and 2 buzzbaits in the two sections. they dont tangle and its not a pain to grab one from the bottom. bladed jigs and swim jigs are kept like my regular skirted jigs.

Science
i fight with the rod on both spinning and casting. many forget, its actually fun to fight a fish! im right handed and switched to left handed reels several years ago. it took less than one outing with a lefty to discover this was better for me. to me, i feel like i have more control working the rod with my dominant hand (jigs, t-rig, topwater, jerkbaits etc). also, the reel handle is not in the way and i can cast while palming which i do sometimes for short quick casts. it doesnt matter which hand you use, just do what feels right. because you have one of each, i'd use the lefty for pitching and the righty for casting.

Is it just me?
this is a great mystery to me - why people dislike and have issues with FC. I dont know if i could live without it is that what it is? people are not using the wrist?

Cutting the skirt off of a 2" Keitech Little Spider might be worth a try. http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Keitech_Little_Spider/descpage-KEILS.html

Switching lines...again
if you dont have already, get some kvd line and lure conditioner. looks like a gimmick but its not. use it on the copoly and FC before you head out to the water. for some reason i rather fish a supple 6# FC for finesse spinning than braid. id recommend trying sniper FC for moving baits, shooter FC for jig/worms and Tatsu for anything when it is on sale. Defier is great for topwater and im long overdue for trying Armilo for moving baits but i cant recommend it.. yet. i think you will find something you will like above.

Switching lines...again
why do you want to change all of your reels? use both braid and FC on depending on what its for. mono too!

Whats your favorite Squarebill?
easily the Megabass S-Crank!

Extra spinning spools
i have spare spools for all of my reels as I have way more rods than reels and the reels jump around so I like to be able to switch # test and line type. always at home before the trip however.

Mountain bikers. Dont try this at home.
its an older frame, a 26. dont like the 29" much unless i was doing strictly XC. I think id go with a 27.5 full suspension if i bought a new bike for the best of both worlds (or is it the worst?). hardtails are just so much fun. i started mtbing with sub 22 lb bikes with aluminum frames and finally realized that steel, a dropper seat post and 140mm of travel is so much more enjoyable!

i started with bmx (Hutch, GT Mach 1, GT Pro Performer). i prefer the dirt to the pavement now days. i love this thing. a bigger smile comes to my face when riding this thing than when fishing my favorite combo. wouldnt give up fishing for it though.

Swim Jig Preference
a grass style jig and a menace grub make a versatile swim/pitch bait. 1/4 - 3/8oz usually for me.

Jig tips?
over time you will lose less jigs. do as exactly as Catt suggests. finessing them through is the perfect way to describe it. when you hit the log or rock, stop. shake in place. when you are ready to move on, give it a small hop to clear the rock or second higher branch. start with you short drags, hops, shakes again. little shakes usually pull it free. move the boat to the other side of the snag and shake a bit. that should should free the jig 95% of the time. a lure retriever is the 3rd option. cheap and pays for itself very quickly. jigs are what I mostly use. i lose less than half the amt i did when i first started fishing them now. buying quality jigheads, a $2 skirt tool and some skirts will save you a lot of money in the long run.

Rod setup for cranking and topwaters
the MB flat side special would be ideal IMO if it falls in your budget. you dont need to spend this much on a squarebill/topwater rod but it sure is nice to. http://tackletrap.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1066_941_942&products_id=4050

Chris Akrigg is one of my favorite trials riders. I think he can hold his own vs. MacAskill

Who Else Isn't A Fan Of The High Speed Reel Craze?
The JDM version of the Curado 71 comes in 6.3:1 which is a good all around ratio for some. What a coincidence, I have one for sale! https://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/188335-new-shimano-scorpion-71/#comment-2125607 Shameless advertising aside, I like something around 7:1 for all around fishing. I like lower ratios for high resistance baits like med-deep divers and some spinnerbaits/chatterbaits. For bottom contact and baits i move with rod and not the reel, i see no reason not to use something fast. Anyone unhappy with a reel that is too fast, try a 90mm+ handle on it. It feels a bit more powerful and the longer handle orbit slows things down in my hands/mind. Its all personal preference. If you never burn hard swimbaits you dont need 8:1 on that rod. A 5.8:1 on a dedicated jig rod is slowing you down.

Someone convince me I should be using FC over Trilene XL
good idea. another tool in the box. im not sure why so many are having issues with FC. I use it on spinning and BC with no problems.

How Do I Fish A ChatterBait?
I like fishing them over grass or slow rolling heavy ones bumping the bottom every once and a while.

Which NRX casting rod for 1/2 oz football jigs?
873 or 894

FC is my "all around" line. Only use mono for topwater since I tried sniper FC. Braid for frogs and jigs in heavy cover.

BC Reel Power? - ratio, gears
Hello BR, Almost all of my experience is with Shimano reels. Im pretty clueless when it comes to judging how well a reel will winch a high resistance bait. I have had low ratio reels that struggled more with these baits than say an 15 Aldebaran HG. Is it because of X-Ship? All of my newer reels that have X-Ship seem to have a bit more power than older versions of the same reel. Is it something else in these newer reels, retrieve ratio being the same? Will changing aluminum gears to brass change the power at all? I'm going to do this anyway in a 09 Aldebaran Mg7 for an increase in IPT (7.7:1 vs 7:1) and durability and im wondering if it will handle med depth cranks a little better even though im increasing the retrieve ratio. It will be used for small and med jigs/t-rig but I am curious how it will handle cranks. My guess is that will not affect much if anything at all. What are your ideas about increasing handle length to gain power? In my experience it does but how does it compare to lower gearing? Does spool/reel size affect power? Thanks, -Z
