Actual rod lure weight rating?
total weight. its a guideline, and also keep in mind that lure weight ratings on quite a few rods are very off. when people talk about 3/8oz jigs, is this the total weight? 3/8oz jigs are usually 2 grams heavier after the skirt is added and the trailer can easily get it well above 5/8oz.

Lure size and weight
look on your rod and you should see a lure weight rating. your rod will work best when the lures you use fall within that range. adding plastic to a jig or t-rig adds considerable weight.

Aldebaran Or Metanium
I agree the Metanium is more versatile (Ive fished the HG). Aldebaran is a great reel but it didnt feel ideal for a 3/8oz jig + plastic. It can handle it all day, im just picky.

A-Mart cranking with 8:1:1 reel?
for me its not just cranking slower with heavier/heavy resistance baits to overcome the high gear ratio issue. some of my older 7:x reels just do not feel right when retrieving these baits. my newer 7.x reel is much better at this - this is a more versatile reel IMO.

St croix.
I have heard several people say if you call st. croix you can buy 2 rage or avid neos (same blank as avid) for $100 plus $20 shipping.

Recommended spinning reel for "skipping"
as long as line comes off the reel, you could use a $20 reel. I might use my finger to slow down the bait on a cast or pitch but with skipping on spinning, i dont. I would highly recommend the Stradic Ci4+ or the JDM Rarenium Ci4+. Im thinking about getting the 2000HGS for a ML/XF St. Croix LE.

A-Mart cranking with 8:1:1 reel?
Thats what confuses me. If i am not mistaken, the Curado 201E7 has about the same ratio and has a bigger spool than the Metanium HG. The handle is a little shorter and it does not like a 3/4oz spinnerbait. Handles it fine, but you want a little more when reeling it in. I threw the same bait with the Met HG and it felt like I could do it all day although i switched up after about an hour. It was a very noticeable difference to me.

A-Mart cranking with 8:1:1 reel?
is x ship the reason why my Metanium feels more powerful compared to a Curado (pre x-ship) of similar size and ratio or does it have to do with something else?

A-Mart cranking with 8:1:1 reel?
I have to agree with AM about the new gears. At least when talking about xship which is the only new system ive tried. HG (7.x:1) is the new mid speed. Edit: Id like to hear reviews of deep cranks being fished with the 6.2:1 Metanium.

St. Croix Rage RS610MXF
Thanks, Dan. The Rage is $89 shipped but I am now looking at pictures of the rod and the reel seat does not look very comfortable.

St. Croix Rage RS610MXF
Hello St. Croix users, My friend is looking for a spinning rod for 3/16-1/4oz (+ trailer) jigs and t-rigs and senkos. Do the Rage rods use Avid blanks? How do the spinning rods balance? Would the RS610MXF be good for his intended uses? Thanks! -Z

Latest Tackle Purchase Thread (Bait Monkey Victim Support Group)
I just looked at the picture on BPS and it looks the same as the one on TW. Strange... Well I've heard more than a few people say that it is the best flouro for spinning so you are setting the bar high!

I couldn't resist the Tatsu sale on TW. I back-ordered 1000 yds of the 10# for t-rigs and small jigs on spinning. Might throw some on one of my 50 size baitcasters. Also ordered some TRD worms and some mushroom head jigs. Trying to decide if i want to drop the $145 on 1000 yards of #15 or #20 for the baitcasters.

Sub 7' rods
My shortest is a 6' ultralight, longest is a 7'5" jig rod with everything in between. I think 6'8" rods are the most fun.

St.Croix Rods Avid X spinning M or MH?
i have the legend elite 7" M/F and have had the legend elite 6'8" M/XF. i do not enjoy fishing t-rig or any bottom contact with the 7'M/F. the 6'8"M/XF is perfect for light bottom contact. cant vouch for the cranks. maybe you can keep your other rods for the moving baits and get the XF Avid for soft plastics. St. Croix also has a Gold Star Service plan. If you break your Avid for any reason you get a replacement for $75 plus $15 shipping. you can also swap for a different model of any series by paying the difference. http://stcroixrods.com/service-warranty/service-warranty-policies/

Got a new cranking rod, now what?
i thought you were looking to buy a rod, misread your post. not a good attitude to have though if you were. read through all the suggestions and make a choice before ordering based on rod specs and rolling a die.

spinnerbaits
i usually do short casts around timber but you can do a lot with them. pause the retrieve after hitting a branch. yo-yo it. slow roll it and kick up some dirt. change retrieve speeds. shake it while reeling. they work all year, i slow it down when the water temps drop. search for videos on youtube and im sure you will find a lot of tips.

Got a new cranking rod, now what?
BTW - many lures are heavier than the advertised weight.
