Got a new cranking rod, now what?
It is personal preference. And also, one company's 7'MH/F might feel like another's 7'MH/M and vice versa. I'd recommend creating a post when you find a rod you are interested to ask opinions on this site especially if you are buying without handling it. The power of the rod to me would depend on weight of the crankbait and type of cover I am fishing. Usually a MH for baits 3/8oz+. I like throwing lipless cranks and shallow cranks on a fast action rod. I like a little more bend when fishing mid and deep divers.

Lure Retriever worth it or not
other than the small initial investment, what other cons are there? any lure that is snagged, cranks are just very good at doing that.

Favorite baits for BWCAW Smallmouth
spent 4 nights canoeing in the boundary waters several years ago and had an awesome time. didn't catch a 5 lber but had decent luck with inline spinners, small jigs, small cranks. the water is very clear and don't throw anything you don't mind loosing to a pike! the guys on the forum below where very helpful with my all of my questions regarding the trip I took. http://www.bwca.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=forum.conference&confid=1

Shimano Metanium Dc Reel - Initial Review / Impressions
I was wondering if I would be happy with another HG version with maybe 25% of its time spent on medium cranks but I think i might get the 6.2:1 after reading your review. Come on, you need the BSR 852 GLX to have that follow up Senko always tied to.

Best line for sensitivity?
looks like the consensus is FC for slack line (while the bait falls) and braid when the line is taut.

Shimano Metanium Dc Reel - Initial Review / Impressions
Great review, Goose52! After having spent more time on the water with the reel would you still prefer a lower gear ratio for medium depth crankbaits? I have heard several people say that even the HG version of can handle medium depth cranks just fine so I assumed the 6.2:1 version would be perfect.

got this now need a reel
If you can spend a little more, I would recommend a 13MetaniumHG. You can get them for around $275 shipped from Japan Lure Shop. I ordered mine on a Saturday and got it that Monday. From Japan! https://japanlureshop.com/shimano-13-metanium-right-6156.html

Football Jig Users : What Makes a Good Jig Rod ?
I like a stiff tip for dragging football jigs. you cannot tell this by a rod's ratings. I'd recommend a rod that is 7' or longer, MH or H, F or XF. Im thinking of picking up the NRX 873 CRR before spring and i hear its a great football jig rod.

Wacky Rig Setup
hold the line with a finger or two from your other hand as it sinks (as if you were flipping) if you think you are missing strikes. having just the right amount of slack and using a sensitive rod helps - especially when not touching the line.

How to Start Fishing Jigs (Basic Setup + Info)
Great article, Senko lover! My favorite trailer on a skirted jig (when I want a lot of movement) is the Yamamoto double tail grub. Has a good amount of action when dragged or lightly hopped. Very versatile, drops and swims great. They are also one of the cheaper Yamamoto baits. (non-hula version)

What Test???
I use yo zuri hyrbrid 12# or 14# mostly for spinnerbaits and crankbaits. If i want the crankbait to go a little deeper i will use flouro, with the spinnerbait i just use a heavier one and stick with copoly. I prefer a fast action for spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, swimjigs, chatterbaits, lipless and squarebill crankbaits.

why are most baitcasting reels L. handed?
think of it as forward - tighten, backwards - loosen the way the reel handle goes will tighten the drag.

why are most baitcasting reels L. handed?
I am right handed and switched to left handed baitcasters several years ago. it took less than one outing before i realized i made the right choice. i sold off my right handed baitcasters soon after. i fish a lot of bottom contact baits and i get way better feel by working the rod with my dominant hand.

Jig vs Texas rig
I land more and bigger fish and get better hooksets with a jig. your results may vary. buy some arky jigheads, skirts, skirt collars and a skirt tool (cheap tool) and make your own jigs. PM me if you would like more info.

Need help with a new reel.
2 brakes on, 2 off. dial at highest setting and work your way down. if you get pretty far down on the outer dial, take another brake off and put the dial back up and work your way down again. i would start with heavier baits. after you are comfortable casting with the reel, start pitching. loosen the tension knob little by little. its a high speed reel but with xship it should have plenty of power. i havent fished one but it looks very versatile and is probably good for everything except deep crankbaits and very light baits (150 spool). might have to slow your retrieve speed down if you are used to slower ratios...

I Quit Cigarettes But Started Smoking Pipes
if you were a smoker and then vaped you would feel the benefits very quickly. there is no tar. vape juice is propylene glycol and/or vegetable glycerin, nicotine and whatever flavor is added. no flavor is bitter but doable.

I Quit Cigarettes But Started Smoking Pipes
anyone who vapes needs to read this article and make sure your juice does not contain the chemicals discussed: http://news.harvard.edu/gazette/story/2015/12/popcorn-lung-seen-in-e-cigarette-smokers i recommend making your own nicotine/pg/vg mixture and adding RY1 extract (check out wizard labs). drop the nicotine by a couple mgs every 2 weeks or so.
