  1. medium light fast or XF spinning to cover the stuff that feels too light on your medium medium heavy fast baitcasting rod for an all-around rod.
  2. i'd stick to the basics when starting out and keep it simple with color. white spinnerbait chrome lipless crank (ratltrap) small crankbait t-rig plastic weighted and weightless (grn pumpkin or black/blue) jig w/ plastic craw trailer (grn pumpkin or black/blue)
  3. ive never fished your combo but - stick with what you have for a while until you feel comfortable and know exactly what you want in your replacement rod. but yeah, it would be worth it to upgrade if you decide youre going to be fishing for years to come. i'd recommend eventually spending over $100 on the baitcaster too. id recommend shimano or daiwa. i think you will appreciate the upgrade there maybe more so than the on the rod. maybe you can sell your combo later or give it to a friend and get them into fishing.
  4. awesome story but I think your friend should look for a new cardiologist!
  5. make metallica great again!
  6. no one told me not to stand to pee off of a canoe when I am 5 beers deep.
  7. try a low trajectory underhand roll cast if you feel you are just out of pitching distance and want to keep it quiet.
  8. shimano 2500 is a good all around size for LMB fishing. not sure if penn's is the same size.
  9. youre supposed to wear something underneath?
  10. Metallica before the black album
  11. i use spinning for jigs/plastic under 3/8oz, jerkbaits and poppers. baitcasters for everything else except the smallest of moving baits.
  12. seal it later if you don't want to wait for your U40 to be delivered. If it looks dirty (it shouldn't if only used a few times) clean the cork with warm water and Dawn soap as WRB mentioned. Let it dry overnight before sealing.
  13. did she swim away strongly when you released her?
  14. have you fished both? how do they compare as far as tip/action/power? thanks.
  15. I got a friend of mine into baitcasting and he is now looking for an all-around rod. He loves the taper and power of my GLX 843 for spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, lipless cranks etc. Those that have fished both rods - Do they have similar power/action/tip stiffness? I know the GLX is probably lighter and more sensitive. Thanks in advance, -Z
  16. what happened to your kayak?
  17. I cannot top you but I did leave a tackle bag with about 4 3700 planos and 2 big pockets full of my favorite baits at a boat launch for about 30 mins and it disappeared. Have a nice weekend!
  18. they will backlash for sure with any reel but a better reel will be more forgiving. it doesn't take too long to learn to use a baitcaster proficiently so why not learn with the best you can afford? just my opinion.
  19. if the OP knows he is into fishing for the long run (he has been fishing for a couple decades) a starter combo would be a waste of money IMO
  20. although I would use a thicker line, I do not think that is the issue. you either have a bad spool or you are damaging the line when making the knot.
  21. those are all good sites.
  22. I liked Trilene XL in the past but use YoZuri Hybrid for poppers, some cranks and carolina leaders instead now.
  23. id start with green pumpkin, black/black or black/bue
