I usually fish the 4" yamamoto version on a 1/4oz arky jighead (6'8" Medium XF spinning - GLX BSR803), the 5" on a 1/2oz football jighead (7'5" MH Fast baitcasting - NRX CRR873).

Several people have said that they turn on all of the internal brakes for the best performance. Might be worth a try

ditch the spincast. do not buy another! stick to spinning for now since you are comfortable with them but eventually you will probably use spinning for finesse/light lures and baitcaster for everything else.

Thats the only negative thing right now, not having the line options. I have extra spools for my spinning reels which makes swapping lines easy. baitcast spools are a little more expensive and I have no extras.

The swapping happens at home before heading out depending on what rods im bringing and that is decided by where I am going and what i feel like throwing that day. Swapping on the water would never happen. I hate to even swap lures.

It works for me. Just bored and curious if anyone else does the same. I imagine it would only be kayakers, co-anglers or shore anglers. Does give a sense of emptiness when looking at the rack though No tourneys for me neither. The pressure is the opposite of what I am looking for. Think its great for the sport/hobby though!

i currently use 11 baitcasting rods and 5 reels. i only carry 3-6 rods (usually 4) when kayaking so my reels jump around depending on what rods i am taking that day. i always take at least one spinning rod, usually 2. does anyone else do this or does every rod have to have its own reel? is ok to have a rod fetish and leave half of them naked on the rack at home? my minor OCD is telling me they dont look right but i am eyeing another rod now.

lb for lb a better fight than LMB. and can be super aggressive feeders. I also camped there and it might be easier to just rent a canoe if anyone decides to go there. If you go deep into the wilderness you will have to portage a few times and it is very easy to carry a light canoe with the built in shoulder pads. Plenty of good outfitters in Ely, MN. if i had one rod it would be a MedHeavy power Fast action baitcast combo about 7' long. my second rod would be Medium power Fast or Extra Fast action spinning combo about 7'. i wouldnt get a moderate action rod unless it was dedicated for medium to deep diving crankbaits.

i havent tried many different brands but im happy with keitech swing impacts for swimjig/spinnerbait/chatterbait trailers and the fat version without a skirt or blade.

boundary waters canoe area in MN is beautiful. I did 4 nights and 5 days several years ago. youre not gonna catch a monster largemouth but maybe a giant smallmouth or pike!

ML is as low as I go for largemouth as well. and that only gets used for 3 or 4 applications (small jigs/plastics, dropshot)

if you have a spincast, I would replace that setup with a spinning combo. ML or Med 6'6"-7' rod. fast or extra fast action. for the all around baitcaster id go with a 6'6"-7' MH power fast action combo. that's a good all around rod. I'd spend at least $100 on each rod and reel once you know you are into fishing for years to come.

I haven't had issue with braid to swivel. I'd do as Todd2 says and not worry about it unless you have issues with it. I would not use FC as a leader as it sinks.

hey, many have lures that cost $25 so it would pay for itself right there. is it heavy? could you see it damaging cranks? how would you compare it to other lure retrievers? would you only use it when you had to bring the whole log up?

what are you throwing? i assume the BFS has a shallower spool? i have the non BFS model but ive only used it for pitching 1/4oz jigs on a BCR803c and i love it. the JDM 16 Aldebaran BFS is the same price if buying new and has an XG model.
