  1. If you can afford it, get this: http://tackletour.com/reviewstcroixlegendeliteec70mf.html while i have never fished it i do have the spinning version (same blank?) and it is is a nicer build than my nrx, glx and older LE rods. very versatile. id use it for any moving bait in its weight range except deep diving cranks. then get the old mbr 783 for target casting spinnerbaits
  2. wow, yen dropped a lot in the last few days. $292 plus shipping for MGL. Digitaka has free shipping but only a lefty in stock. https://japanlureshop.com/reel/shimano/shimano-baitcasting/16-metanium-mgl.html
  3. the jdm MGL holds a little less line than the usdm version and you don't get the warranty. still worth it to go JDM IMO. buy an extra spool from shimano usa and put braid on the shallow one! the 13 Metanium is a great reel and I hear the MGL is better.
  4. I'd start with a 6'6"-7'3" MH/F baitcaster and 6'6" - 7'3" M/XF spinning combo for the first two rods. 100-150 size shimano baitcaster with 7.x:1 ratio, 2500 size spinning reel.
  5. other way around. more moderate or slower for cranks.
  6. i like pointy heads on swimjigs. grass jigs make versatile jigs for swimming and hopping/dragging/shaking when you are figuring out what the fish want at that particular time. white, green pumpkin and bluegill colors are my favorite. soft paddle tails on jigheads (no skirt) and bladed jigs (chatterbait) also make awesome swimjigs
  7. i have a rod fetish. my rod to reel ratio is more than 2:1. rods just have so many different personalities! to manage a tackle problem, buy used and sell used. tell yourself anytime you buy a reel or rod, you sell another to keep the total number constant and your wallet even - after the initial arsenal is complete. easier said than done though. i cant bring myself to sell anything.
  8. shimano metanium daiwa zillion variant abu ???
  9. as long as the bait isnt long and covered in hooks, a palomar knot for braid and mono/hybrid and a carefully tied palomar knot for FC.
  10. light cover or open water: NRX JWR 852s (7'1" M/XF) weightless plastic GLX BSR 803s (6'8" MH/XF) 3/16oz plus plastic GLX BCR 803 (6'8" MH/XF) 1/4-3/8oz weight plus plastic NRX CRR 873 (7'3" H/F) 3/8oz+ ideally i like a 8:1 or higher ratio for baits i work with the rod rather than the reel. 7.x:1 is totally fine.
  11. What rod will you be mounting it on and what baits will you be throwing? I have the JDM 71 Curado (Scorpion) and it is a great little reel. If line capacity is not an issue id choose it over the 200 for its comfortable size alone. Note that line capacity is usually measured for nylon (mono) so you can fit quite a bit more flouro or braid.
  12. im just paranoid I guess. the 2013 metanium is awesome and the MGL is supposed to be better. JDM version is cheaper but has less line capacity and no warranty. http://www.digitaka.com/item.php?item=229110
  13. Ill let you in on my secret bait. 5" weightless senko. works well but gets boring after a bit. great follow up bait.
  14. Metaniums are great reels but id be hesitant to use them in saltwater. I haven't used this reel but I think im getting it for a heavy rod I just bought that will see some marine use. http://jpangler.com/index.php/reel/daiwa-baitcasting/zillion-tw-hlc/daiwa-zillion-tw-hlc.html have you decided on right or left handed baitcaster?
  15. apparently it wont work, brake profiles are different.
  16. if you can afford it then it is worth it. life is short!
  17. Thanks, Raul. I called Shimano previously and they did not know as the BFS version is JDM only. I called tacklewarehouse per your advice but they were not familiar with the reel either. I will report back when I find out, in case someone finds this in a search.
  18. I have a 2016 Aldebaran 51 HG that jumps around 4 of my rods, its time to purchase another. I am interested in the 2016 BFS XG Aldebaran but would like to put a deeper spool (stock 2015 Aldebran) on it to throw light jigs on a BCR803 with the XG ratio. I would like to use the shallow BFS spool on the 2015 Aldebaran and purchase another normal spool to have 3 spools and 2 reels with different retrieve ratios. Is this possible? Are the 2015 and 2016 BFS spools interchangeable? Also, is there any difference in these two reels besides the spools? Would the shallow spool on the 2015 Aldebaran not cast light lures as well as it does on the 2016 BFS version? Thanks! -Z
  19. most are calcium stones. worst pain I have felt in my life. id recommend seeing a urologist and having an ultrasound image done and submitting a 24hr urine sample.
  20. It is my understanding that the USDM version of the MGL has a deeper spool than the JDM version and was given the 150 size classification. The reels are the exact same size. Not sure if the USDM 13Met and the MetDC have deeper spools or not.
  21. The 13Met and the MetDC are a little smoother and more "powerful", I assume the MGL is too. I'd still go with the Aldebaran if the line capacity is not a problem. I have one on a NRX 842 and it is unbelievably light and incredibly small!
  22. I would strongly advise against the old MBR 782 glx if you will be throwing spinnerbaits. it is very soft and it is nothing like the 842 glx, almost a power less IMO. not sure about the 2016 version however. I use the 782 for small topwaters, jerkbaits and small cranks.
  23. if i only had 2 rods - 7' MH power Fast action baitcaster 7' Med power Fast or XF action spinning
  24. Hello, Both Japan Angler and Japan Lure Shop list the Conquest HG 200 as having a line capacity of 180m (195y) of 12lb nylon. Tacklewarehouse lists the line capacity for the Calcutta Conquest 200 as 110 yds of 12lb nylon. Is this data correct? Is the Conquest HG 200 that much bigger than the US non-HG version? Thanks! -Z
