  1. i use rattles in dingy water or if the jig bite turns off. its only worked a few times for me on the latter. i usually use a black jig in shallow water when using rattles.
  2. im going to have to vote the in the minority. i 'd have him get a nice combo and a pack of gama EWG 's and some trick worms. let him use some of your baits and he can buy baits a few at a time after that. maybe he will replace any cranks he loses.
  3. bronzeback spinning tool on the way. well, i hope so.
  4. i much rather catch them again than eat them. panfish taste better.
  5. dmn you guys. no i have to make room for another rod.
  6. for anything under 3/8oz i use spinning gear. except for spinnerbaits, buzzbaits and cranks.
  7. sure, but youd be better off with 3/8 oz. remember the trailer has weight. it would prob feel better in a mh (1/4-3/4 oz lure rating)

  9. id pick the ltb even if they both had lifetime warranties. you want a sensitive rod for soft plastics. it really depends on how much think the extra sensitivity is worth to you. keep in mind ive never used either rod. i have a ltb spinning finesse rod waiting for me at home. i have owned premiers (same graphite as mojo) and they were not bad at all. think of it this way, as long as you dont lose/sink your rod and you have 60 bucks in your pocket, you will always have your ltb rod. ive broken way too many rods so this is worth alot to me. you can also find good deals on ebay on Loomis IMX rods that actually have a better warranty than st. croix. they ship first and you get free shipping. they do not offer the split grips youre looking for however.
  10. i would definately get the LTB over the mojo. better sensitivity and lifetime warranty. mojo has 5 yr.
  11. i recently bought one of the new symetre 1000's and im looking for an ultralight rod to use it with. im looking for recommendations for a rod with a stiff tip to use mainly with small jigs and soft plastics. any input is appreciated. thanks -z

i have only caught one fish on a spoon (red and yellow) and it was by trolling it which is not the typical method used. a popular method for fishing spoons is in "deep" water. let it flutter down to the bottom and rip it up fast with your rod, let it flutter back down and repeat. this is a verticle presentation. im sure someone with more experience will chime in...

  16. i agree with RW. there is a difference in sensitivity between my avid and my glx but its not as big of a difference compared to the avid and say the 50 dollar rod i owned 10 yrs ago.
  17. i dont know where to buy locally but these are the 3 most popular plastics available online http://www.del-mart.com/shop/home.php?cat=248 http://www.lurecraft.com/catalog.cfm/plastic%2dproducts/liquid%2dplastic http://www.fishingworld.com/M-F-Manufacturing/Category.tmpl?Cart=122697961190523871&Lvl1Cat=LIQUID%20PLASTIC&Lvl2Cat=Regular%20Plastic check out this thread http://www.tackleunderground.com/forum/soft-plastics/3857-best-plastic.html
  18. i havent tried these yet but Ken Penrod recommends the upper potomac. good smallmouth fishing from what ive read. looks like a good place to fish from a canoe. http://www.penrodsguides.com/upper_potomac_river.htm
  19. nice fish! next time photoshop some trees behind your mom so you wont get harrassed. but seriously, ive read the smaller ones do taste better and will not impact the fishery as much. cheers -z
  20. what i did was get together with a few friends and ordered some aluminum molds from bob's tackleshop and del-mart molds. i still have not recieved the molds from del as i made some custom orders but bob's are great and im sure del's will be as well. its a little expensive but if you get a few people to chip in it wont hurt as much. lurecraft has some cheap molds although i havent seen them. i will also try making my own molds with plaster of paris or resin. this is definately the cheapest way to go. i recommend you visit the tackleunderground forums. it is a forum dedicated to tacklemaking. plenty of info on making molds, choosing colors, choosing plastics etc. hope this helps -z
  21. i probably use my St. Croix Avid AVS63MLXF the most when fishing for smallies. great length for canoe fishing.
  22. ive been working overseas for 2 yrs now and ill tell you how i get by without fishing. bassresource.com buying alot of stuff and knowing its waiting for me at home thinking about the stuff thats waiting for me at home ordering magazines and dvds and having them sent to me by APO ive also been learning alot about tacklemaking which i look forward to doing when i return. good luck, hopefully everyone will return home soon.
