Big plastics, little bass
No I catch lots of 2 - 4 pounders and occasionally 5 - 6 pounders, and have hooked some closer to 9 - 10 pounds. I've just noticed it at just about every fishery I fish though. I guess little bass are just more aggressive. I wasn't saying the average bass I catch on a 5" fluke was 5 - 6", they are usually more like 13 - 15" on average. I catch little bass on cranks and topwaters too, not just plastics. Probably the lure that catches the biggest average size for me are spinnerbaits, but other lures are more effective much of the time. In Colorado, where I live, a 6 - 7 pounder is a big one. Probably 80% of the bass I catch range from 10 - 15" and 1 - 3 pounds. Ok, well, I guess just keep throwing it and dealing with catching the smaller ones. The big ones are there, they just might not be the first in line. And hey, at least you aren't getting skunked!

Cold front and rain what will the bass do?
They're goin deep. Good luck.

Treble Hooks
Hmm... never thought to do that. Would unscrewing the screws really weaken them much? I just did it to my jitterbug and it seems pretty solid still.
-
Treble Hooks
It's pretty easy. Just unscrew the hangers on the bottom and take them off and slip the treble over that loop and put a new one on.

Big plastics, little bass
Nope, not really. Do you catch bigger bass on something else where you fish? If not, maybe you just need a new fishing hole?

TRICK STICKS ( Senkos) Finesse ?????
19" plastic worm!? No, I wouldn't call a senko a finesse bait.

1st SwimbaitS In The Making. (DONE)
I've never really made a lure before but, I've decided to dive in and give swimbait making a shot. I'll be documenting it here as I go along. Here we go... I started out with a 3/16" thick, 3.5" wide piece of basswood. Cut 3 pieces to 4" in length and glued them together with liquid nails. Then I drew the pattern and cut the basic shape out with a coping saw and proceeded with a wood file and then sandpaper. Here's it is cut out and filed to basic shape. Now I roughly rounded the edges with the file, keeping everything in line with my center piece of wood. Here is where I'm at. I sanded it smooth and chopped it in half. Not too bad eh? More to come soon... Stay tuned.

How big do you think this one is?
2.5-3 Nice one.

Fishing HEAVY Cover.
Hmm. Well, it seems most would agree on a hollow bodied frog or a jig. I'd have doubts about anything else. I just need to get out there and throw some.

First attemp at foil
That's one pretty looking bait. Let's hope the fish think so too! I'm interested in how you did the foil and paint. Care to share?

Need help making a swim bait.
So I want to make a swim bait. What do I need? What kind of wood? I don't have an airbrush so what kind of hand paints can I use? Do I need to pour lead in the belly? I have no idea but, I'm interested. If anyone can help guide me in the right direction, I'd appreciate it.

Ugly Sticks
Thanks for all of the replies guys. I have gotten more into soft plastic this year and I guess since I have no other rod to compare to, the ugly stick seems to work fine but, what would be a good inexpensive worm rod? I usually throw plastics, spinnerbaits, topwater, and sometimes cranks. Is there a rod out there that would work well for all 4? I do catch fish with the ugly stick. I'm pretty happy with it's durability I can tell you that. And yeah I guess you're right, there's a reason ugly has been around forever and is popular. That's a cool story ddgit. A hotdog? ;D

Jitterbug question
Try a slower retrieve or tie a trailer hook on it.

Ugly Sticks
Anyone use em? They're basically all I've ever used and seem to be a decent rod but, I know here at BR that most people would disagree. I've never used any top of the line rods but, I was just wondering what's wrong with an ugly stick? I'm looking for an upgrade but I'm not ready to spend a couple hundred for a st. croix just yet. Suggestions?

Fishing HEAVY Cover.
haha no way a spoon would go through it. It's hard to fish any kind of weedless worm in it even. Actually that heddon moss boss might work but, if it sank at all it would snag quickly. It looks kind of like a scum frog to me and I think the frog would do a lot better but, thanks for the suggestion. I haven't ever even seen a moss boss.
