  1. Wow that's really sad. :-/ I don't wear a PFD at all. I'm just careful but, freak accidents like this do occur.. unfortunately.
  2. Never caught a pickeral but, I've caught pike. At least you didn't get skunked...
  3. Nice toad. I'd love to catch one that big. Congrats.
  4. The pond is very worth fishing... I've pulled plenty of nice bass out of it when the weeds haven't engulfed the surface like that but, when it gets bad like this it's just frustrating to try and fish it. Thanks for the replies and the link though. Edit: Now that I read the link I think it's actually giant duckweed because the roots are so dense. It isn't like this all of the time but, around this time of year it gets bad and pretty much un-fishable. I guess there just isn't much I can do but wait until it opens up again.
  5. Wow, I have no idea what that is but, undoubtably the fish looks like it's in bad shape. I wonder what it could be...
  6. Well, this Michigan duck weed is really thick. It will clog a trolling motor pretty quickly. As soon as you clear any kind of path in the weeds, it starts swallowing all the open spots right back up. It sucks. There is no way you can just fish it like it isn't there. I have 50# Power Pro so no worries of a broken line but, it's a real hassle getting the bait to the fish. Thanks for the advice though. I'll try a tube and weight, NitroMan and tell ya how it worked. Just so you have a mental image, the pond looks like this.. (not the actual pond) >
  7. Just wondering what you do when a pond is 100% covered in duck weed. The only thing I can fish semi-effectively is a scum frog but, is there anything else I can do?
  8. Personally, I'd rather buy 2 or 3 rapalas instead of 1 LC lure. I've never used them but, unless it's absolutely killer, I think I can catch more fish on a few different baits than just the one.
  9. Yeah, it's the same thing. Freshwater drum. Anyone got a good recipe?
  10. Yes. Take a bluegill and hook a treble through it's back and tie on a giant bobber a few feet up and flop it out in the water and you're good to go.
  11. That's awesome man. Sounds like you had fun.
  12. Thanks everyone. It was a really good time. Lots of fun! Glad you like the pics.
  13. I had a blast salmon fishing for the first time this past week up in Pentwater, MI on Lake Michigan and I just wanted to share... My uncle has a cottage up on the lake and invited me to join him on his vacation. It was beautiful on the lake and the fishing was pretty good! A lot different from bass fishing but, still very cool. We boated about 15-20 kings for the week. I've never caught anything as big as these salmon so it was awesome. Anyway, just wanted to brag and flaunt the pics. Enjoy. The sunrise this morning... And what I got right before we packed up and hit the road.
  14. I don't know but, that's pretty cool. Walleye are some good eatin'! 22" is a nice one too. Good job.
  15. The only time I've ever caught a dogfish I was using 10# mono and threw a large hook with the tail end of a bluegill on it and he sucked it right in. I'd just use baitfish or crawlers on a hook with a split shot about a foot up from the hook.
  16. I'm just curious. What is the biggest bass you've caught and from where?
  17. Sometimes it happens. Wait until you feel the weight of the fish and then set the hook. It can be tricky waiting because the initial explosion gets your adrenaline pumping and it's like instinct to immediately set the hook but, count to like 2 after the splash and then set the hook.
  18. Definately not 12 lbs. I'd guess more like 4. Congrats on your first slimy pike!
