Yep, happened to me during a tournament about 22 years ago on a Berkley Frenzy crankbait. The fish was a 6 to 6 1/2 lb smallmouth. I know because he jumped several times, and I got him close to the boat before he took a nose dive deep. Crankbait was in his mouth, not foul-hooked. I would've won that tournament with that fish. I now swap out the stock hooks on every crankbait with Gamakatsu's. Never had that problem again.

June is one of the best months of the year for bass fishing! The bass are feeding heavily, recovering from the spawn, and setting up for summer. The best part? You can catch them shallow, deep, or anywhere in between! Whether you love flipping shallow cover or probing deep structure, this video will help you catch more bass this June!

It's usually 4-7 hrs on the water these days, depending on the bite and boat traffic. I'm fishing 3-5 days a week. I'm 5 mins from the launch, so that makes a big difference. When I was younger, 10-12 hrs on the water with a 2-3hr drive each way was the norm. I did that every Saturday and Sunday, every month, every year for YEARS. And if I was camping near the launch, it would be about a 14-15hr day. My legs just can't do that anymore! LOL

Well no, you'll need a larger-sized gravel to create the base, then layer the 5/8" on top of it. But you'll first need to remove the existing soil to a depth of at least 6-8 inches and then compact it using a plate compactor or roller (you can even drive over it repeatedly). Then lay a geotextile fabric over the prepared subgrade to prevent soil from mixing with the gravel and to help with drainage. At that point, you can use a base layer of larger gravel, like #4 crushed limestone or MOT Type 1 and compact it thoroughly. Now you have your "firm base" NOW you can lay down the 5/8" gravel, and be sure to compact it again. It's tedious works, but if you skip any of it, then you'll have problems like sinking, shifting, and water pooling.

Top course 5/8" gravel for the construction of streets and roads containing crushed rock and about 50 - 60% fines (i.e. sandy binder), thus, it is suitable for roads, driveways, and packs quite well. For the homeowner, it’s a good driveway gravel where a firm base has already been established. That's what I use for my driveway.

Good to hear! Glad it was successful. Now you have to keep moving around, even when you don't want to, or think you can't. You must. My brother-in-law passed a few months ago due to a post-surgery blood clot. He didn't get up and walk around like he should have. It's no joke. Get up and move!
