  1. Let’s talk summertime bass fishing with soft plastic jerk baits. 2-time MLF AOY Michael Neal walks you through his favorite setups for summer. By using these soft plastic jerk bait techniques in summer, you’ll be prepared to catch more bass, no matter where they’re hiding!
  2. One of the cool things about the DeepDive app is that you can look out days ahead, choose an exact time, and it will tell you the conditions at that moment. What a great tool for planning the weekend or tournament! https://bit.ly/41RXthz
  3. Yep, happened to me during a tournament about 22 years ago on a Berkley Frenzy crankbait. The fish was a 6 to 6 1/2 lb smallmouth. I know because he jumped several times, and I got him close to the boat before he took a nose dive deep. Crankbait was in his mouth, not foul-hooked. I would've won that tournament with that fish. I now swap out the stock hooks on every crankbait with Gamakatsu's. Never had that problem again.
  4. June is one of the best months of the year for bass fishing! The bass are feeding heavily, recovering from the spawn, and setting up for summer. The best part? You can catch them shallow, deep, or anywhere in between! Whether you love flipping shallow cover or probing deep structure, this video will help you catch more bass this June!
  5. It's usually 4-7 hrs on the water these days, depending on the bite and boat traffic. I'm fishing 3-5 days a week. I'm 5 mins from the launch, so that makes a big difference. When I was younger, 10-12 hrs on the water with a 2-3hr drive each way was the norm. I did that every Saturday and Sunday, every month, every year for YEARS. And if I was camping near the launch, it would be about a 14-15hr day. My legs just can't do that anymore! LOL
  6. Well no, you'll need a larger-sized gravel to create the base, then layer the 5/8" on top of it. But you'll first need to remove the existing soil to a depth of at least 6-8 inches and then compact it using a plate compactor or roller (you can even drive over it repeatedly). Then lay a geotextile fabric over the prepared subgrade to prevent soil from mixing with the gravel and to help with drainage. At that point, you can use a base layer of larger gravel, like #4 crushed limestone or MOT Type 1 and compact it thoroughly. Now you have your "firm base" NOW you can lay down the 5/8" gravel, and be sure to compact it again. It's tedious works, but if you skip any of it, then you'll have problems like sinking, shifting, and water pooling.
  7. Top course 5/8" gravel for the construction of streets and roads containing crushed rock and about 50 - 60% fines (i.e. sandy binder), thus, it is suitable for roads, driveways, and packs quite well. For the homeowner, it’s a good driveway gravel where a firm base has already been established. That's what I use for my driveway.
  8. I've been fishing the RageBug extensively since before it was available to the public. So I made this brain-dump of a video on different techniques with it.
  9. We all have a lot to learn from you. Your patience, quiet confidence, and genuine passion for the sport—especially outside the tournament scene—are truly valuable. The fact that you consistently catch quality fish without relying on high-end electronics or an expensive boat speaks volumes. It’s a powerful reminder that skill and knowledge often outweigh gear.
  10. Bummer. My dentist is an avid fly fisher. Definitely not the same thing, but we can still talk fishing.
  11. Good to hear! Glad it was successful. Now you have to keep moving around, even when you don't want to, or think you can't. You must. My brother-in-law passed a few months ago due to a post-surgery blood clot. He didn't get up and walk around like he should have. It's no joke. Get up and move!

  13. Pretty much every state in the SE, midwest, SW, and NW. I fished a ton in Alaska, but not for bass (they don't have bass). If I ever get to fish the NE I'll fill out my Bingo card.
  14. Here's how I use it:

  17. June is here, and with summer heating up, Bryan New from BassResource is sharing his go-to baits for schooling and shallow fish action. From topwater to finesse, these five baits are the essentials you need tied on for a successful June fishing trip!
  18. I think we can all relate to this. No matter how long you’ve been fishing, bad habits can creep in without you realizing it. Here are the 5 common mistakes anglers make—and how to fix them right now to catch more bass!
  19. Ah, ok got it. I have one of those, and yes, it makes that whining sound. I fish with the brakes mostly off. Seems you can't turn off the DC.
  20. I guess you could call me a "Youtuber" (LOL! I really don't consider myself one), perhaps it might surprise you to know I DON'T watch any fishing channels. That's intentional. I don't want to copy others, or regurgitate what others have said or done, or try to be popular. I just do me. What you see is what you get. No acting, antics, drama, or otherwise anything different that how I always fish, cameras or not. I figure that's the easiest for me, because trying to do anything different would take work. My heros are Bill Dance, Jimmy Houston, and Hank Parker. I'm blessed to know them all (I've fished with Hank and have had dinners/lunches with all of them many times), and they're the same in front of the camera as they are when no camera is around. So I'm following their lead. Unfortunately, I don't have their charisma, so my YT channel suffers. I don't have the viewership as those other channels, despite having the channel for 16 years. I'd love to be that favorite teacher everyone has from high school or college, but instead I'm that guy you learn a lot from but can't remember his name. LOL! Ha ha! I like it! It's kinda like when your boss does something completely out of character. I just might have to do it. LOL
  21. What kind of line are you using? Braid has a distinct sound going through the rod guides. Fluorocarbon and mono are virtually silent.
  22. Somewhat on the same topic. Worth a watch...
  23. You know what I like the most about my new Millennium Palma Horse Seat? Reinforced anodized aluminum frame No plastic components Breathable, cool fabric promotes fast drying UV resistant to sun and elements Mold and mildew resistant Mounts to any boat seat pedestal Plus they come in colors to match most boats. Look at the perfect match of my factory seats! https://bit.ly/4dg2IeV
