Scales

Featured Replies

My kastking scale just bit the dust. Something happened to the screen. It's about 2 years old.

What does everyone here use for a scale? Pros cons on different models? Seems like price is all over the place on various models. I prefer one with lip gripper included, that is not giant.

I use the rapala scale.  it came with a hook, but I had a grip that I put on with a split ring.  It’s not huge, not small.  I’ve not had to replace the batteries in 4 years since i bought it.  It is bright enough in the sun, and has a backlight for the dark.  It isn’t perfect, but it works just fine and i think it was only $40.

I like to keep mine on the kayak outside. That may be a contributing factor and maybe I just need to keep in my gear I bring in. Don't want to though, I want to keep everything possible out there..

Rapala is on my short list. I'd love one with a tape in it too but that's a luxury I don't have to have.

Rapala digital scale 50lbs is what I rock but I highly recommend taping the battery cover down. The scale is quite accurate.

Rapala for 0 - 15 lbs and the Whisker scale for 15 - 110 lbs.

Chatillion & Sons IN series for over 50 years.

Certifiable accuracy

Indestructible

No batteries required

I use a acu cull scale and it works great. I have had it for 3 years now and I have not ever replaced the batteries. Seems good enough for me. I think that I paid around $40 or so. I like it, stays in the tackle bag all the time.

Accu Cull Digital Scale 55lb -

Replaced the hook hanger with a small Rapala Fish Grip.

It gets some use.

Whichever one you select, please use a clamp. Not a metal j hook.

Cannot emphasize this enough!

I've got a Tackle HD Digital Tourney Scale that I've been using for a while and like since it seems to do well in my kayak.

Buy a 315 Boga, send it in for IGFA cert and be done with it.  No batteries and truly hard to damage with a lifetime guarantee.   You could beat someone to death with it and would still be more accurate than most scales on the market.  Theyre also better for the fish because you can land with a boga or take em right out the net and have a weight immediately.  The only con is they are only as accurate as you can read them.  The 315 goes by 1/4lb increments so every increment represents 4oz, meaning its pretty easy to get the weight to the ounce.

Mine was on the kayak for the first 4 of the 4 years.  I stored it inside, but if the boat was in the truck or on the water the scale was exposed.

I use the $8 amazon ones and hang a small rapala gripper on it.  I checked it with a kitchen digital scale and it was right on.  It's small enough to put in my kayak pfd.

This is the scale I've been using for a bit now. My old scale would only do lb/oz or kg and was often hard to photograph in the sun. This screen doesn't have that issue and it also gives me the decimal lb/oz option which I prefer.

I use a boga spring scale & for a digital scale the Salter Brecknell  electro Samson has been my choice. I like using a boga because it serves a dual purpose by grabbing a fish with multiple trebles for unhooking plus gives you a quick weight.

Perfect timing as I'm looking to purchase one myself.

I've just been measuring my fish but one 18" fish can have a totally different body than say another 18" fish.

Anyone weigh their fish in a net?

Wouldn't this be the best for anything say 3 lbs and up? Don't they say holding a big bass by the lip bad for them?

I figure it would be easier to weigh other fish in a net as well. Walleye, pike, etc.

I guess you just need a scale that you can zero out the net.

@gim & @MN Fisher, I posted a picture on a FB Musky board holding a fish with a clamp and got absolutely ROASTED.

I use the Berkley digital fish scale.

This what I have. The clip broke so I replaced it with a hook.

I asked Berkley to send me another hook and they sent me a new scale, but with an unpleasant email saying it was a courtesy and they won't be sending any more.

I took it to the post office and had them weigh my bag, and my scale is .75 of an ounce light at the 5lb mark.

Well, muskie guys are a bit insane anyway - 'fish of 1000 casts' indeed.

I ended up just buying another kastking. It's less than half the price of everything else I considered. I'll just be more careful with the screen in the future.

Anything bigger than a bass should really be measured, not weighed. It can cause serious damage to the fish if they are held vertically like that.

My guess is that’s why the muskie crowd brought their pitchforks lol

I bought a Bubba Pro Series scale w/ culling tags when Bass Pro had them half off. Best scale I have owned. The operating system is very simple to navigate. Saving weights is done using colors that match culling tags making it easy to cull fish.

Bubba Lite looks good.
