DRAFT EPA PERMIT OPENS PANDORA'S BOX
July 30, 2008 Clean Boating Act Now Law Last night aboard Air Force One, President Bush signed the Clean Boating Act of 2008 into law. This is welcome news for the fishing and boating community. The law was enacted just two days before the public comment period closes on what would have been a devastating new EPA regulation. The law permanently restores a long-standing exemption for recreational boats from permitting requirements under the Clean Water Act. It became necessary after a U.S. District Court decision in September 2006 which potentially subjected approximately 17 million recreational boats to permitting requirements under the Clean Water Act. These permits would have been expensive and subjected recreational boaters to maintenance and operation procedures that were designed for industrial polluters. Congress and the President have given anglers and boaters a much needed victory. The angling and boating communities came together like never before, and successfully convinced our political leaders that this regulation placed an undue burden on the millions of recreational boaters around the country. My thanks to the BR members for their quick response to the many calls to action that went out at various times throughout this legislative course. With your help and the leadership of BassResource.com, the National Marine Manufacturers Association and others, we demonstrated the collective power of the outdoor community.

Fish Tank Questions
If you own the home, you could check with the builder if the upper floor can hold the weight. If you rent, better check with the landlord first. Doubtful you'd want a saltwater tank, as it's more maintenance vs. freshwater. Best place to go for advice is a place where they specialize in fish tanks (not the local pet store). Look for someplace that focuses on "home aquariums". Bottom line: do your homework and you'll be fine.

Anyone Excited about NASCAR?
Before y'all get carried away with unsubstantiated rumors about some sort of Toyota conspiracy, just remember a few years ago NASCAR made changes specifically to help make Dodge more competitive. Highly doubt that was a "conspiracy". Regarding NASCAR this year: BORING! Those 1 1/2 mile tracks are the worst. They either need to make them all restrictor plate racing, or thin them out of the circuit. I'm also sick of the Busch bros. dominating everything. Would love to see somebody put them in the wall.

Preseason Football
Skins won it. I watch pre-season very closely. It's really interesting if you know what to look for such as players battling it out for an open starting position - new plays, potential star players, new coaches and their philosophies. Note that this was Jim Zorn's first game as a head coach, and his first as a non-Seahawk. The play calling ought to get more interesting from him as the pre-season progresses. Things like that keep it interesting.

Day 2 story is here: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_123/bass-erie1-08.html As far as Ike's "Attitude" - he's all about getting inner-city kids interested in fishing. If the clothing does the trick, so be it. Personally, I admire that "attitude"!

Welcome aboard! What Fishbear said, plus I'd add Riffe lake, Mayfield (if you like fishing for toothy critters), and the Columbia River at Portland. There's others here that live in your area. I'm sure they'll have more suggestions.

ANYONE EVER TRIED THESE SNAKE LURES BEFORE
They're a very specialized lure, requiring a different approach. you can be very successful with them, but don't expect to catch numbers like you would a crankbait or plastic worm. Please read the FAQ's to find info on how to use them. Thanks!
