  1. Our friend and fellow forum member @ol'crickety, who's written several great articles for BassResource, took it to a new level by teaming up with @Blue Raider Bob to create a great article about how the noise factor can affect your fishing success! https://www.bassresource.com/fishing/noise.html Enjoy!!
  2. Let's not head down that rabbit hole please.
  3. I have been to Dr. Degrasse's presentation and was HIGHLY impressed!
  4. Per the forum rules: It seems I'm a "fascist" for following this policy. Evil dictator, sure, but "fascist"? I'm offended. So I'll lock it instead. Moving on....

It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that we mourn the passing of Gary Kilmartin, aka @.ghoti. . He joined the forums in 2005 and was a long-time moderator. He was known for having rod-building skills, a great sense of humor, a love of cigars, and a generous heart. Few also knew he was quite the skilled musician. Many of you met him at various BassResource RoadTrips. Gary will be lovingly remembered by his wife, children, and grandchildren, along with countless other friends and family who were blessed to know him. Gary touched the lives of many and will be remembered for his love of fishing and music, as well as his passion for teaching. He had a profound impact on all who knew him, and his legacy will live on in our hearts and memories. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, 11/18, at: McCracken-Dean Funeral Home 308 E 2nd Street Pana, IL 62557 Flowers and donations in his honor may be sent there. Prayers, condolences, and memories are gladly accepted by his family as well. Please join us in celebrating the wonderful life of Gary and in saying farewell to a beloved friend, family member, and cherished individual.
  6. Ya, ya, people hate it when a website changes. From Facebook to Amazon to Twitter, we've all seen the complaints everytime the UI changes on a website. Google seems to be the only site that gradually makes small incremental changes until one day you realize it's completely different than it was a year or two ago. Anyway, adapt and move on. But the complaining is done here.
  7. After a little practice, you get used to it. ..... so I'm told. Joking aside, never barefoot for me. After A LOT of testing different brands and types of shoes, it's either Simms Challenger flip flops or Hey Dudes for me when it's warm; Columbia insulated/waterproof boots when it's cold. I'll also wear Merrell waterproof sneakers when it's warm and raining. In the summer, I often wear the flip flops for launching/loading the boat. I'll wear waterproof boots when it's cold. I'm too old and the ramps too slippery to try and tiptoe around bumpers and trailer tongues in an attempt to avoid getting wet.

I have Michelin's on all my vehicles. Defender LT MS/2 on my pickup and SUV, and XDS2 on my dually. The Defenders have great traction on wet roads and still have great gas mileage, and let me tell you, the dually has plowed through standing water on the freeway without any hydroplaning issues at all. Been through some serious downpours and standing water, and these tires are excellent. I have the XDS2 on my dually because I fish a couple of lakes with primitive roads and launches (steep too) that can be a real challenge when wet. I can pull the boat around with ease. It's the same tire they put on tow trucks - you know, the ones that pull people out of snow drifts?
  10. Glad to have you back on board.

  12. What Is The Best Way To Fish For Bass In November? https://www.bassresource.com/fishing/best-november.html
  13. So https://www.suzukimarine.com/outboard/115-200hp/df150a/ vs. https://www.suzukimarine.com/outboard/ss-series/df150ss/ What model/year boat do you have?
  14. That's quite the observation.
  15. High performance, low cost, abundant service locations. See why so many bass anglers choose the Suzuki SS Series! https://www.suzukimarine.com/outboards/ss-series/
  16. Ok buddy, you got your jabs in. I hope you have a better day now. Moving on....
  17. Yep, predation happens on well-managed ponds: https://www.bassresource.com/fish_biology/fish-predators.html https://www.bassresource.com/fish_biology/aquatic-furbearers.html https://www.bassresource.com/fish_biology/cormorant.html
  18. No kidding! It's downright dangerous to be on the water at daybreak! I usually wait until about 10:30 before heading out because that's about the time the last of them are heading back in. LOL
  19. I've caught several 3+ pounders on small (3") Rapala minnows in 40-degree water. No, not "upper 40's". I mean 40-41 degrees. Clear, moving water after a few days of stable weather was the key. I've also caught some pigs in deep water (45+) dragging what is essentially a modified walleye rig, with the same small minnow on the end. Yes, it's a brilliant way of getting small, shallow-diving crankbaits into deep water where the big girls lay in wait. Not my idea, but a good friend taught me that little trick. Again, a few days of stable weather is the key. But current is not a factor in the above scenario. In both cases, fast-moving lures were critical. They wouldn't hit them if they were crawled.
  20. Yes, I have hired guides on many occasions. Some are good, some are bad, and some are GREAT! I've experienced all three. Here's a video I made with Justin Kerr (who guides and placed 4th in the Classic) about finding a GREAT guide: And here's an article I wrote about a GREAT experience I had with a guide: https://www.bassresource.com/fishing/smallmouth_river_fishing.html
  21. It's not just a logo, it's a rating!
