I accidently found a sweet spot for Tilapia. I was fishing for bream with bits of worm and caught a couple very nice size Tilapia. Other than bits of worm what do you Tilapiamasters use as bait to catch these delicious ciclids.
  3. Funny that this post came up. The other day while waiting for a storm to pass, me and Steve were talking to these guys from North Florida who came to the stick marsh looking for armoured catfish. They net them and sell them to "Indian people". Steve asked if they were the same as plecostemus, and both guys said that they weren't the same. I don't know about these things but these two guys seemed pretty knowledgable. Anyway, the armoured catfish are kinda fun to watch. They swirl up on the surface and take in huge gulps of air. Kind of a unique fish.
  4. It was a beautiful day at the Marsh. That is untill the storms rolled in. To be expected though. This is Florida summer fishing. We did manage a few hours out on the water before the lightning storms drove us off the water. SteveP. timed it perfectly. We got to the ramp just as the first drops started to fall. The big fish was only 4.5 lbs by the boga, but the action was steady. I caught my first bass on a sebille magic swimmer, so that added to the fun.
  5. You forgot to mention the bugs!! Night fishing is great except for the blood suckers. Nice report Mrs. M.

It's amazing how LITTLE damage a gator can do when he so chooses. I had a small (4 foot) one take a plastic bobber in his mouth, suck on it like was a piece of hard candy and spit it out without so much as a scratch. Weirdest thing.
  7. Can't say what might have happened to the bass but I must say that I do admire your photography skills. Kinda reminds me of someone.

everyone talks about the weather but no one does anything about it - Mark Twain. Yep, I thought so, but thanks for the confirmation.

when looking at the weather map at NOAA, it says "Wind direction SE" Now I'm pretty sure that means that the wind is coming FROM the south east. But looking at the radar map in motion it looks like the weather is movin TO the Southeast. Which is it?
  10. It warms my heart to know that old guys can still catch fish.

Of all the lousy websites in the world you had to go and pick this one
  12. I always thought it would be a waste of money to fish senko's with a weight. After all it's the seductive wiggle on the weightless drop that makes them so special right? My thinking was if I was going to use a weight than it would kill the unique senko-esque action of the lure and so might as well use a plastic worm Well yes it's true, weightless senko's are the bomb but for some reason adding a screw in weight can be the ticket on certain days. Big curly tail worms are really productive in the off color Florida waters I commonly fish, but there are days when a 1/8 - 1/4 oz. screw in weight on top of a senko will be the #1 lure by far, go figure.
  13. This is all great advice. OR. buy crankbaits without rattles. (Just a thought) :-*

  15. Anyone have much luck with these? Gotta admit, mine looks great in the water. Problem is the bass don't seem interested. Any tips?
  16. I used to buy GM cars untill they started to self destruct at 50,000 miles. I switched to Toyota in 1984 and have never looked back. It has nothing to do with their potential bankruptcy. For me it's all about dependability.

One of the things I miss the most about moving to Florida is small mouth fishing. I loved it. Your news is good news. Now if they can keep moving South...... Hmmm a Florida strain small mouth.
  20. I remember when I was passionately involved in threads like this.
  21. Glad to see some good ole fashioned common sense. It's been a few years since I've harvested and eaten a bass, but as sport fisherman we sometimes forget that the fisheries departments usually know what they are doing when it comes to size regulations and bag limits. Keeping one now and then for the pot is fine. Anyway, putting a badly bleeding fish back in the water could be very dangerous. Don't want to attract sharks now do we?
  22. Your right about bullrushes and bass in Florida. They are often very productive. I have caught bass off of bullrushes or whatever it is looks like them, when all other spots were skunk holes.
  23. I agree with WRB. I think if you find yourself catching several dinks in a row, you should probably move. OR.....because catching dinkoids is alot more fun than catching nothing, clip off one of the hooks on each of the trebles. That should reduce the number of fish being damaged. If you catch nothing but small bass, and others you know have the same experience then it is definitely a possibility that the water is overpopulated. A call to fish and wildlife may be useful.
  24. The stickmarsh is full of big bass. And the snakes they dine on. Photo courtesy of SteveP
  25. Here's one for the Mudster. I was surfing youtube and ran accross a bunch of video's by Buckwheat Zydeco. Great stuff. You can't NOT feel good listening to this stuff. Here's my question. What's the difference between cajun music and zydeco?
