Am I the only one....
Except for a few evening bank outings, my season is just starting. My trip today was pretty memorable, so I can't share your pain. I certainly have had slump season though. What helped me was to focus more on the pleasantness of the day, rather than the # of bass caught. I actually started bringing binoculars with me and practiced identifying birds by their calls, and then locating them with the glasses. I also would collect, examine and identify different grasses and weeds. My outings became naturalist excursions rather than fishing trips. It made for fun, educational and successful outings regardless of the number or quality of bass caught. good luck to you.

wow its jaws
Thanks for the memory. When I lived on Long Island, I would go to Lake Ronkonkoma just to catch yellow perch for the pan. I would use 1/8 hair jigs and bounce them off the rocks. On ultra lite tackle they were fun to catch and yellow perch are among the tastiest of the freshwater pan fish.

super day at stickmarsh
SteveP and I went to the fabled stickmarsh and had a pretty memorable day. We caught 72 bass up to just under 5 lbs. The bite was still going strong but ole avid got pooped so we quit at about 4pm. Here's Steve with one of numerous doubles. Here's me with another of our doubles. And me again with the big fish of the day. A 4 3/4 pounder which is not big by stick marsh standards, but the numerous 3 lbers made up for it. It was a beautiful day. Sunny and warm with the bass hitting everything from plastics to crankbaits to topwaters. Actually the topwater bite started at about 3pm. The last hour saw all our bass caught on Steve's chug bug and my Sammy and Rico popper. Great day.

Ciao Paisano! Thanks for the post and the pics. In the future, if you would be so kind as to show more of your locale, boat, equipment etc. I think things may be a little different in Europe and would enjoy seeing them.

The Spro frog Trilogy!! (with pics)
Outstanding. I wish I could say I have good luck on hollow body frogs, but I don't. I have tried several different brands in an array of colors but even though I have caught some decent fish, I honestly can't say I do well with them. they are way fun to fish, so I will keep throwing them. I always enjoy seeing pics of the cows that these baits can fool.

Oil Prices Plunge!
The only certain way to get gasoline prices down permanently is to aggressively develop alternative energy sources. Speculators, global politics, bad weather, etc, will not be over come by increasing the output from wells. Reducing demand with renewable and or alternative sources will. Has anyone out there written their congressman to demand that they stop bowning to pressure from big oil and extend the alternative fuel tax credit? IMHO it's the only way to get us out from under the boot of the petro dictators, foreign and domestic

Ansin Report?
I'm flattered that you thought to mention my name, but truth be told I probably fish the stickmarsh only 7 or 8 times a year, and Ansin Garcia less than that. I have had some great days on the marsh. Actually my best fishing trips happen here, but I can't take credit. My fishing buddy SteveP. puts me on all the fish. I'm just along for the ride and maybe some comic relief. Stickmarsh/farm13 is no automatic big bag/big fish trip. The first 5 times I fished there (with a different partner) I was skunked all 5 times. Good luck, and don't forget to post a report.

Worlds largest science experiment
I believe there was a similar machine made in the 60's on a MUCH smaller scale. The science is in the scale. The particles can accelerate at much faster speeds thereby creating more dynamic collisions, with new sub particles being revealed. This is an example of pure research. You never know what will be revealed. That's what makes it so exciting. It is hard for scientists to get funding for "basic" or "pure" research because it is not conducted with any particular outcome in mind. Yet, this is where breakthrough discoveries often come from. The Laser is a good example. The transistor is another. Bell labs has won 6 noble prizes for results obtained through this quest for knowledge. One of the foundations of America's greatness is in the areas of discovery and invention. I hate to see this spirit weakened because some bean counter can't identify the "return on investment".

Hookemdown's Music Countdown Extravaganza
I believe YOU made a typing mistake. You're supposed to capitalize the first word of every sentence. Also, "Master of Puppets" is a proper title, so it should be capitalized also. nope...that would be a grammatical mistake, not a typing mistake Ahhhhhhh Long Mike, Ye trained em well. I don't know if you count reggae as rock, but Bob Marley "legend" is at or near the top of my list.

Worlds largest science experiment
I think this machine is fantastic. What upsets me is that it could be right here in the good ole USofA but nope, we wouldn't fund it so the center of the physics universe has moved from America to Europe. Sad that we can come up with 30 billion to bail out a gambling er... brokerage house. but wouldn't fund the most exciting scientific device of the new millennium.

Give me your opinions on my new rod and reel combo
Nice set up. But next time you might want to ask for opinions before you buy the equipment. It would seem sorta mean spirited if someone were to come on the board now and say you bought crap. Plus there is always the enjoyment of listening to the Shimano posse get trashed by the "anything other than" Shimano posse. Stick around, you'll see what I mean.

Stick Marsh/Farm 13 - outing with Swede
Great testimonial. The stick marsh bass do seem to fight harder. Wonder why that is?

Who is your favorite bass fishing TV celebrity?
I have been following this thread with great anticipation. Long Mike...where are you when we need you dawg?!! Dangling a participle is a transgression most would overlook, but asking "What is your favorite celebrity"? is grammatical homicide. Mike, are you still breathing? Speak to us man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! oh, I voted for Jimmy Houston. Man makes me laugh.

NO new storms!!!
August - October in Florida is the peak of the hurricane season. Many Floridians like myself check out the weather and hurricane websites as if they were NFL preview pages. The past month or so it has been routine to see up to 4 storms lined up from Florida to Africa just waiting to come West and pulverize us. Ike is still on the map but it has passed Florida. (Sorry Texas) but the map is totally clear of any tropical activity all the way across the Atlantic. The full season runs through November so there will be more activity, but I welcome the relief.
