  1. It was an interesting news clip. the black hole that eats geneva is the kind of fluffery that attracts attention. To me, the most significant statement was that President Reagan wanted to build it in America and because we didn't the center of physics has moved to Europe. I'm not sure how important this fact is, but it's just yet another instance of the decline of America. Wish you were still here RR.

Definitely Pinfish So my bait was stolen by... bait. Just my luck. thanks.
  3. Now that's a fish story. Love it. kind of a testament to the virtue of patience. How many of us would work that hard? Nice going Alpster.
  4. Don't forget: oil companies exist not to provide U.S. consumers with the lowest possible gas prices but to return the maximum financial return to shareholders. Very true, as evidenced by the latest quarterly earnings report by ExxonMobile that showed it posted the highest profit of any corporation in US history (surpassing the earlier record it set last quarter) Kinda makes a good argument for reclassifying oil and gas as utilities like water and electricity eh?
  5. I went to Indian River, which for you non Floridians is an estuary on the treasure coast, that is "inshore" salt (brackish) water. The snook, speckled trout, redfish, flounder, and other inshore fishing can be very good. Anyway, it's been a long time since I fished with live shrimp. I bought medium shrimp, used a #2 mustad "live bait" hook. There were lots of bites but I didn't catch anything. The bait was either gone, sucked dry, or eaten all around the hook. Whatchatink?
  6. "selective harvest" is a valid means of regulating the population of any game species. You say "hoa" as in "home owners association" and that is my only concern. It's likely these guys know nothing about how to manage your lake for trophy bass. The end result of all this culling of smaller fish could very well be damage to the fishery.
  7. What did you see that would make it illegal? I just looked it up and i will be using a hook and line and it is a private lake, my family owns it. In case you have you noticed there is a law against everything.
  8. Florida is all about shallow weed choked lakes. I usually use vibration type soft plastics. My winner the past few years has been the GYCB swim senko, and the horny toad, but I gotta tell ya, those rage tail lures look like they were made for these conditions. Definitely on my short list of baits to try.
  9. Poll on CNN shows 44% of people believe there this a bigfoot.. shows you just how many really stupid people there are out there.
  10. I now release all we catch but I still wonder what harm there is in keeping a few here and there for food. as with most who replied, I agree that there is nothing wrong. So don't sweat it. The controversy really is about bigger bass. It is true that the bigger bass in any given system are females who lay the most eggs. It is also true that keeping a few of these fish on occasion will do nothing to damage an otherwise healthy fishery. The only requirement is that you stay within the law. After that it's up to you. Lots of people love to get on their high horse and condemn what other people are doing, even if it is completely legal, and ethical. It's a fact of life that this routinely goes on in the world. BassResource.com is no exception. You don't need to hide, nor justify keeping any fish that is legally harvested for food. If the big fish in a major system are under too much pressure then the F&W people will restrict keeping them through slot limits. If it is not a major fishery, say a small local lake, then let your experience guide you. Are you and others regularly catching 4 lbers and bigger? If so, rest assured there are 8 lbers and larger in that lake and keeping a 5+ pounder once in awhile will do no harm. If, on the other hand you and others (check the local bait stores) rarely catch a fish over 3-4 lbs. then releasing all larger bass may be a wise decision. Again I say, if you stay within the law then you have no need to feel any remorse. If you surpass the legal requirements well that's fine, but preaching to others that they do the same, is arrogant, and a general pain in the ***.
  11. I have a daiwa tdz bought from a member of this forum. (dang who wuzit)? anyway, it is a leftie reel so flipping with the right hand is easy and it has the cast release button on the top of the low profile reel. Makes flipping and pitching real easy. Gottla love those td-z's. They are discontinued having been replaced by the steez. If you can find one at a good price in good condition, I suggest snapping it up. Here it is in the type r version. The regular is fine, looks the same except for the red. It is model 103HL, upgraded models like this type R are still available as JDM's from Japan tackle and some other Japanese retailers.
  12. wow, a 9 inch woody. I'm totally impressed. Nice fish.
  13. Somehow I can't help but think that this is the question he was looking for. I guess I'm just a cynical old fart.
  14. You anticipate being flate broke but wonder how we cope with moving? C'mon dawg.
  15. Check out these stats from the forum home page Most Users ever online was 947 on Mar 21st, 2008, 11:22pm Most Members ever online was 161 on Mar 30th, 2008, 9:17pm Most Guests ever online was 189 on Mar 31st, 2008, 5:10pm Most Search Engines ever online was 779 on Mar 21st, 2008, 11:22pm It can't be a coincidence that all of these record highs occurred in the same week. Whazzup wid dat? What's so special about the last week of March?
  16. No foregrip is more beneficial than a split grip for bite detection. fads will come and fads will go, but there is no substitute for an expert rodsmith using superior materials. Split grips look cool, but to assert anything beyond that is wishful thinking.
  17. I think what you found is a couple of the great truths in fishing. 1. Pretty much any lure will work, some better than others. 2. Locals have their favorites. fish what you have confidence in and enjoy yourself.
  18. Kudo's to you young jedi. Of course you realize that you will never put the question to rest for anyone other than yourself, but I applaud anyone who uses the phrase "scientific method" on this forum. I'm looking forward to following this experiment. Sounds like fun.
  19. We are all going to kill a bass now and then. Sometimes on purpose for a meal, sometimes accidentally like this one. No sweat. You will a post from time where someone will rant about a person keeping a large female. "They lay a gazillion eggs, it will hurt the fishery....If everybody did that..." and so on. I say let the professional managers do their job. In Florida there are different regulations for every fish. If there is a serious problem, the F&W will manage it. So stay within the rules, and don't fret. Accidents will happen.
  20. If you could find a pickerel imitation I'm sure it would work. but why sweat it? Get something flashy and/or splashy and if the picks are there you will catch em.
  21. I used to catch alot of pickerel. All the lures mentioned above, especially the daredevil worked for me. I did really well with a heddon dying flutter prop bait. but then that specific lure was a wonder lure for me. It caught everything. I lost it in the jaws of a pickerel and over the years have bought a number of the exact same model. For some reason no matter how I tune it none have ever come close to that one special lure.
  22. Here you go. Not bad. Of course if it was a tiffany you could retire, but still, not bad at all. http://cgi.ebay.com/AMAZING-LARGE-C-1910-BRADLEY-AND-HUBBARD-SLAG-LAMP_W0QQitemZ370074339515QQihZ024QQcategoryZ63547QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
  23. It's the big D coming of age. get down wid yo bad self ma nizzle
  24. Excellent!! I believe they are a distant cousin to the "Coney Island whitefish"
  25. I think those pics are totally cool. I especially like the fourth one. Question. Is it a fossilized ravioli or pirogi? I guess it depends on the neighborhood.
