  1. I used the hula grub with alot of success in the winter of '06. I put it skirt up on a booyah 1/4 oz jig. There was a particular length of shoreline on my home lake where this combo would slay em. The skirt of the grub gave a very full appearance to the jig and slowed the fall. It remains the most successful jig trailer i have ever used for pitching to weed edges in 4-8 feet of water. Black/blue for both jig and grub.
  2. I have had to put down a few good dogs over the years. It's always a sad time. If you can, get a new dog or puppy right away. Your departed friend will never be lost to your heart, but the new dog will find a place it in as well.
  3. C'mon Brent.... cut the kid some slack. He has a totally honest face.
  4. I find myself agreeing with the spirit of Burley's post and the supportive comment that followed. When you have multiple, overlapping agencies doing essentially the same thing, it's too easy to assume that "the other guy" is taking care of business. We don't need more regulation and the swollen bureaucracies it creates. We need a clear regulatory mission designed to prevent the abuse and manipulations that undermine the markets, carried out by skilled auditors with real enforcement power and a high level of accountability for their actions.
  5. trojan batteries are expensive but are excellent. If you need something that is indestructable, and may be dropped, or fall over than optima's are great. Mine has survived all kinds of abuse. It charges fast which is great for two trip days, and holds a charge longer than standard batteries which is great for me also.
  6. If I recall correctly those square stern canoes are pretty heavy. a riveted aluminum jon would be more stable unless you go with a gheenoe.
  7. I haven't checked this forum recently so I missed this post. Yes, I totally hate it when something that's mine gets stolen. Yes, I totally relate to homicidal impulses. Yes, I am soooooo glad for you that the boat was found. Yes, the meth labs will assure these creeps get serious time. No, I doubt if your friend will see a penny of restitution, but all in all it seems like a better than expected outcome.
  8. Avid, the trips have been fun Allllllrighty then!
  9. tie on a watermelon/black 5" senko. fish it weightless and let it fall to the bottom on a semi slack line. don't try to "feel" the fish. Watch your line. If it jumps, moves to the side, or does anything different, set the hook. I have been bass fishing for over 40 years. I have seen alot of "hot" baits come and go, but the senko is the best bass catching lure I have ever come across. You can catch fish of all sizes on the 5". It will help you build confidence. I always have a senko tied on. It is a rare day indeed when this bait will not work.
  10. The only time in the past 5 years where I could identify a peak spawn on my local treasure coast lake was in January of '06. The typical spawn sites were crowded with visible nests. All other years the spawn was spread out over several months, with no real peak.
  11. Natural disasters seem to bring out the best in most. Yes, there are those who will exploit the situation, but most people can relate to the anguish of being victimized by forces beyond our control.

My bass don't especially like spinnerbaits unless it's windy, then they will jump all over them.
  13. when the primary forage is shad, and the bass are schooled up in 6-10 feet of moderately stained water, What is your go-to lipped crankbait?
  14. The gov't seems to have come to grips with the fact that this is a systemic problem requiring more than the band-aide approach applied to individual corporations. A solution similar to the creation of the resolution trust remedy for the 80's S&L crisis seems to be in the making. It will cost the taxpayers a bundle, but just may bring some stability. Let's hope so. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080919/ap_on_bi_ge/financial_meltdown
  15. as the thread starter I can only assume you are directing this question to me. The answer is a loud NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO....I am not a guide. I don't even know where to find the fish. SteveP, gets all credit for locating the fish and identifying techniques to catch them. My job is to make casts, talk trash, and try not to do something stupid like not drink enough water on a hot day, so that Steve has to quit early to save my sorry ***. The recent posts that you see regarding the stickmarsh can make it seem that this is an easy lake for big bags of big fish. NOT TRUE. The first 5 times I went there (with a different partner) I was skunked all 5 times. I would highly recommend that you call George Welcome before making a trip here. George has been guiding for many years and knows the lake as well as anyone. I'm glad you enjoy my posts. I try to make them interesting as well as factual. Have fun and good luck. avid
  16. I'm with the "at least your safe" wing of this thread. Lord knows how important bass fishing is, but it can't compare to losing your home or worse. Count your blessings, the fishing will come back.
  17. I will be needing a line to use as leader material. Low visibility is not as important as ultra tough abrasion resistance. Original fireline is great as a highly rugged leader but I was wondering if the new crystal is as tough. Any experience out there?
  18. Hang on sloopy, the ride is rough but only getting rougher. But the good news is that I saved 48 dollars on my car insurance.
  19. This thread is ripe for a downwind joke.
  20. way to find em george
  21. Interesting point of view on the necessity for all these bailouts. It's one sided of course, but imagine what would happen to our economy if China took such severe losses that the decided to dump US dollars. http://articles.moneycentral.msn.com/Investing/JubaksJournal/feds-bailed-out-china-not-the-us.aspx'> http://articles.moneycentral.msn.com/Investing/JubaksJournal/feds-bailed-out-china-not-the-us.aspx
  22. if they go under would I have a free house he he he..... as previously stated, some entity will buy your debt. No doubt for pennies on the dollar, but you will make the same payments every month. Debt is like dandruff. It kinda stays with you.
  23. Somebody 'splain to me how these HUGE banks and brokerage houses, and their major insurers failed to notice that hundreds of billions of dollars were being loaned to homebuyers who couldn't possibly afford it?
  24. sorry we missed you George. Hope all goes well with the doc.
