  1. As someone who has developed plenty of sites, I LOATHE freeaking popups. That whole methodology to advertising is retarded. It is like sitcking McFly at your door. Everytime you try to leave he follows you to your car "Buy my crap, buy my crap, buy my crap....". Make sure you scan you computer for viruses and spyware. With crappy business like this you never know what they may have done. Good catch though and I an glad the dude was bounced.
  2. It is international talk like a pirate day! http://talklikeapirate.com/
  3. Yeah I saw your thread before when you made that one. It is an awesome job. I did finally find a place for paint. A little hole in the wall that mixes the stuff themselves. First time I ever bought paint that came with an Activator. This dude has some sick paint. Starts at $250 a gallon and runs up to a tleast $500. Actually mixes paint for boats, cars, aircraft, etc. and he can literally match any color you have. Has some killer customer service too. He sells a lot of other crap too, specialty sand paper, car, boat, house cleaning supplies (the REAL good types that you could kill yourself with), buffers, etc. I will definitely be seeing him again. BTW, if you use her plenty...there ain;t no such thing as going a little overboard.
  4. Well i did eventually find one. I got a referral from a marina about 20 miles away who have used the guy for years. I just kills me that a shop that exclusively sells Aluminum hull boats (for more than 30 years) has no ability to fix them. He look genuinely perplexed at the thought that one would need repaired. The lake nearby that a lot of his boats are used on is Lake Wylie. There are a TON of submerged hazards in there (part of the reason the fishing is so good). I know there are a mess of fixes going on. Be like selling a car and not being able to service it. I mean every car dealer I have ever dealt with either has their own body shop of can quickly refer me to one.
  5. So I need to touch up my Jon boat a bit. Been having all sorts of trouble finding any paint for it. So my questions does anyone know of a good substitute for marine paint that I would use on the boat? It is on a trailer so it is not constantly in the water. If there is anything out there at actually provided good protection for the boat (from scratches and dings) on top of the normal paint stuff, that would be cool as well. This is for the bottom of the hull and some of the inside. If it is something they sell at Lowes or Depot I would REALLY like that as they are the only places I can find anything lately .
  6. Seriously though, IMO the reason the enviro-nuts don't find more success if they lack any ability to negotiate. You cannot run on the "Down with people, up with trees" platform and win much. Instead of trying to kill lumberjacks with chains, nails, bars, and whatever in trees. What they have to do is work with leaders, find middle ground where they can achieve some good things for the environment and allow humankind to progress. I never really understood eco-terrorists either. What have they accomplished? Besides killing people, how to they help the environment? I saw once where they burned a bunch of SUVs. I cannot imagine what kind of crap that put into the atmosphere. The sad part is we could probably use some more environmentally sound policies, and technologies, the way to do it though it working with these industries and government leaders and finding that middle ground.
  7. ...and they are delicious with some fava beans and a nice Chianti
  8. So we have a marina/Maine sales office 1 mile from my house that exclusively sells aluminum hull boats. You'd think that would mean when I need things for my aluminum hull boat, well I would be set. Well that is where you'd be wrong. The carry green jon boats, they have NO paint for them, have no idea who does carry it. They have a service department, but they cannot fix anything but engines. Apparently, in the 30 yrs they have been in business nobody has ever needed a hull patched/welded. How about outboard motors? ahh sorry got to order out for those. They did get slightly miffed when I asked them "So what exactly do you actually sell here?" I had to go 40 miles to find someone who could weld my boat, and as of yet I have yet to find anyone local to paint the dang thing now that the welding is done. I am starting to develop a business plan for a niche that seriously needs filling here.
  9. I just can't believe someone would just grab your stuff off your deck like that. It is one thing if he asked you first but to just grab someones stuff...that's asking for a whoopin'. I am about as friendly as you can get sharing info (course if i was in a tourney I wouldn't be), but that would urk me seriously.
  10. done replied to .ghoti.'s topic in Everything Else
    Nice.....
  11. So no trouble at night with looters or such yet? I always wondered with all that destruction how the cops would have any chance of catching someone out after curfew. I mean if they were trying to hide and not walking down the middle of the street. That does not sound like a fun situation by any means.
  12. One of the long held issue with internet posts and emails and such, it is tough to gauge intent or tone. My natural sarcastic nature has gotten me in plenty of online trouble. Anyhoo, I would not fret to much of what was said, he already said he was not intending to offend. As to frustration I feel your pain. I have been trying to figure out the Lake I am fishing for 2 months now. It is a GREAT Bass lake, tons of coves, docks, and other structures to fish around. Just tons of fish in there. I have yet to get a serious LMB out of it. Gotten tons of pan fish, tons of catfish, tons of small White Bass, even caught a snake but LMB, I know they are there, I just cannot seem to get 'em to bite.
  13. I am GLAD to hear you guys are unhurt!
  14. Ditto to Team_Dougherty. For my Jon boat, the hull was like $500, the motor (Brand new 8 hp 4 stroke) was $1600. So a bad motor is a big deal. Make a call to some local shops to see what they would charge (ball park) for a fix like that, then check what you could get an equivalent motor for. Add that to your price for the boat and see if it is still a deal.
  15. I am with Glen on this one. My company gave me a Qmoto 9m to replace a Razor I had previously. The value it gave was in integration with my corporate email, calendar, texts, and occasional web browsing. Without those, really my Razor was better. Easier to carry, tougher to break, more reliable bluetooth for the headset. I would call your cell phone service provider and double check with them on what you can/can't do with the plan you have. Explicitly list out the scenario you have and see what they say about what you will and wont be charged for. In that case what you do not know can hurt you when you get the bill at the end of the month.
  16. Awesome dude!!! Absolutely awesome!! I would definitely look up that recycling center dude. I would have thought those guys would just take the metal no questions asked, like vultures. I am glad to see I was wrong. Maybe he is a fisherman, you can take him out for a trip. Send him on here, we'll certainly pick him up. Sounds like this crew will not be seeing the streets in a while either which is good.
  17. See I am less forgiving of the individuals with these mortgages than you are. When I got my first real job about 10 yrs ago, me and my wife had a combines income near 60k. We got pre-approved for a mortgage of 300k. If we had not done our homework and forced ourselves (and our prodes) to accept that as way out of our range, we would have been hosed. That being said, I never saw the logic in any credit company giving high risk credit. The mortgage companies did it. The credit card companies do it. The payday loan companies do it. It makes no sense to me. What made it particularly worse for mortgage companies (IMO) was they gave high risk loans as ridiculously low interest rates. On top of that they offer these variable rate and interest only loans that seem designed to eventually lead the mortgagees to bankruptcy. i mean they go up when times get tough. Which is exactly when the owners cannot afford to pay more. It seems like an almost retarded business model. I personally, think it was the failures of the banks as well as the total lack of personal responsibility by the masses that helped cause this crisis. That being said, please do not get the impression that I think everyone who has lost their homes in this crisis is some lunatic out there maxing out their credit. There are also plenty of folks who had their mortgages set up right and affordable and just got hit by some pretty unfortunate circumstances.
  18. Just par for the course. I mean look at Carly (from HP) She ran that company into the ground and got fired. Then gets $40 million in severance for failing to perform in almost every way a CEO can be measured.
  19. How about links or advice that help you turn those arches into fish in the livewell? I can tell you from mine. I can find HUGE numbers of fish in a about a dozen areas that I could sit at and throw every bait I got and not catch a single thing. The easy part is getting them on the graph, the tough part is translating that to actually catch the fish.
  20. I appreciate it. I actually went ahead and bought the starter kit. I suspect i will be using it. I can at least "play" some with the stuff I get and get good at it so when I need it, I can do some good work. Dropped the boat off at the welders this morning. I am having him do some reinforcement braces on some areas just to be safe.
  21. I have a Mercury 4 stroke 8 HP on my 1436 Jon, and it hauls even with the forward deck, 2 batteries, fishing gear and two full sized guys on there. Can't say I have ever been disappointed in the speed i get off of it. I would go with the 5 HP. Course that being said, how far do you really need to go in the lakes near you?
  22. Guess I could always click on the video link on their site. LOL!
  23. So now exactly how does that stuff work? As far as using it? Sorry to seem quite so clueless on this. It is an area I have not done anything in before. I have a couple mods I may have the welder do while I am in there. Though, given my luck, I am guessing this will not be the last crack I will be fixing so I definitely would like to see more about this stuff you are recommending.
  24. Well after about 2 dozen calls and a visit to 2 marinas, I found a welder who will patch it about 40 miles from my house. He will get it in tomorrow. I hit a ton of sites on this, got the following on JB Weld for hulls: 1. A lot of folks have used it with varying success. 2. While it does hold up well for things like cracked engine blocks, and intake valves, etc the flex of a boat hull especially one the width of mine, will lead it to fail sooner or later. 3. I had 4 welders tell me to go ahead and use it. and 5 tell me using it would be something i would regret and when I did finally come to them to weld it, they would charge me extra cause it has to be completely removed for them to fix it. 4. Some of the Epoxies out there work well, I think Gluvit was mentioned by name in this thread. I hit 5 stores near me and none of them carry it. 5. Long term permanent fix is find a welder, and get it fixed the old fashioned way.
  25. What I have also read it, for the crack to drill both ends of it a bit to keep it from spreading before welding or applying any epoxy. I guess I would just have to be careful not to drill all the way through. One thing that still urks me. Whatever it was that I hit, I did not feel it. Not in the slightest. It pretty much was a wide as my entire boat. It was irregularly shaped and must have been quite hard and I guess I was moving good. It was just deep enough to whack the lower parts of my hull (I forget the terms but the indented lines running from bow to stern, and must have come within an inch or less of my transducer without hitting it. The wierdest part to me, it did all this but apparently did not hit my motor!? How does that happen? It is hanging 6-12 inches at least lower than any part of my hull and has no marks on it whatsoever. If I did not see it, and was not the only person who has taken this boat out, I would not believe it. It does not seem physically possible. BTW, thanks for the info on Gluvit. It seems pretty cool.
